Your New Year's resolution..??

We all torture ourselves with this every year.... :D
What is your Resolution (s) ?

SuzeQuze 12-28-2006 10:27 AM

I think a better way of looking at resolutions is as something to enrich your life. So you feel like you're adding something positive instead of depriving yourself of something you love. This year mine was to meet new people. I'm not sure yet what it will be for next year.

DavidMn 12-28-2006 10:28 AM

Well, the most obvious for me would be weight loss. I'm not gonna whine about that cause only I can decide to do what I need to lose weight, but I've heard form people in the kinda shape I am that it s harder to quit smoking than to change what you eat.

skcin 12-28-2006 10:41 AM

^ Do you mean to say that it's harder to change your eating habits than it is to quit smoking? I've done both, and I think it's way harder to change your eating habits. Smoking is physically & mentally addictive, but it was actually pretty easy for me to stop (although those drunken cigs are becoming more & more frequent lately after 6&1/2 years...) But that's just one addiction, one habit to break.

To lose weight, you're changing everything - what you eat, what you drink, how you exercise, etc. We joke around about how "it's all about food" but really, it kind of is. :o We eat every day. It's up to you personally to make healthy choices & decide what & how you want to eat. I personally find that planning is key - you're much more apt to eat something healthy if you have it planned out, all ingredients readily available. Same with exercise - I just assume that I'm going to exercise every single day. If you're in a rush, or don't plan things out ahead of time, you may just grab junk food because it's fast & easy.

If you need come tips or moral support, David, you may want to look into The Biggest Loser Club. It's online, you sign up & they send you emails with real people's stories about how they're doing, healthy recipes, exercise tips, etc. I don't think it costs much. Good luck!

I don't really make resolutions. I am going to officially stop the drunken smoking (which end up being 3 or 4 cigs a month) because it's just stupid for me to do, and I notice that I'm starting to do it more & more. I also try to thank God every day for the life I have.

Thank you for the support Paula. Its very much appreciated. I've just been thinking alot more about this since that guy my mom takes care of died the way he did of a heart attack. I'd kinda like to live to be at least 50.:o

irishgrl 12-28-2006 11:08 AM

My resolution is to get healthier and to love myself enuff to stick with it.

sasja 12-28-2006 11:08 AM

Go, David!

I am with SuzeQuze on the resolutions, but upon some reflection, here are mine:

- to hang in there as best as I can with a newborn and a toddler, after feb 20th (his scheduled section)
- to stay healthy and alive
- to work on peace inside and out
- to make it to the Webster Hall 2008 NewYear's Ball in a glorious new dress! :woohoo:

skcin 12-28-2006 11:40 AM

Here's the link, if anyone wants it. Looks to be about $20 a month.

http://biggestloserclub.com/

Weight Watchers really works for many people too. They have an online membership as well, I think it's more than Biggest Loser though. In any event, I personally do OK on my own, but if some of you feel you need more support & guidance, these clubs/organizations are awesome. $20 a month is probably less than you pay for cable, or internet. Plus, cut down on take-out & junk food - I'll bet the money you save would pay for your membership. :wavey:

Also - little changes are more effective than most people realize. Just switching to diet POP or iced tea, using light mayo/salad dressings, increasing fiber/whole grains/veggies in your diet, etc. can make a huge difference. Oh, and everyone should drink more water. :D

OK, sorry I started preaching there. :o I'm no diet expert, but these things have helped me, so I thought I'd share.

mikeschmike 12-28-2006 12:06 PM

I'm not big on resolutions but I am hoping for a nice peaceful year. This one went by too fast for me, and I don't like that. I want to enjoy the company of those around me and hopefully meet some new friends as well.

I've cut way back on a lot of bad habits (smoking, take out, etc), so I plan on maintaining that.

Rickypt 12-28-2006 12:28 PM

I was told by my sister recently that resolutions are old-school and now people make New Year's "intentions". That way there is no accountability! :D She's from Santa Cruz, so maybe enough said on that.

I usually don't do the resolution thing, but my intentions are to complete the Boston Marathon, to live within a budget and pay off debt (that conflicts with going to Vegas in March, but I'll work that into a budget somehow or will just say...hey it was my intention) and to pick my battles at work and stop getting frustrated with every little thing.

I also intend to lay off the hard alcohol during my training and to never post while drunk again. :D

michelle2677 12-28-2006 06:40 PM

eh. Screw new year's resolutions.

mine always go something like this:

try to diet-I always end up eating more
pay off bills-end up further in debt
be nice to people-.....aha....ha ha.....
yeah right. like I'm THAT naive to think that would happen.
exercise-I end up more lazy than I was before.

so I'm not making one.

DrummerDeanna 12-28-2006 06:43 PM

I don't make resolutions...well at least I never have...

But this year? I want to start reading 8 weeks to Optimum Health after the New Year - and take what I read and implement it into my life. I am doing great with exercise, diet has suffered a bit, but I'm not as stressed about it since I am now working out consistenly again.

estranged4life 12-28-2006 06:47 PM

To 'try' to cuss less (Which I have been doing as of late)

I don't ever make any resolutions .... but I really really would like to get back to the gym ...... can't seem to get motivated enough to do it, though. I've got the membership, I just never ever go. Very. bad.

This may sound pessimistic:

NOT to fall in love.

For me, love turns into pain. I don't want pain in '07.

I have fallen in love twice and I have felt pain twice like nobody's business. One just didn't work out, the other one died. Don't ever say you don't want to fall in love because that means you don't want to live. Rise above, Curtis, rise above. It hurts but don't tell yourself that you don't want to fall in love.

foxyluva 12-29-2006 01:34 AM

I want to work on my abs this year, and I want to move to Sydney at some point as well. And I want to get a boyfriend...

I don't usually make them either, but I'm seriously going to get back on the wagon with following the suggestions in that book. I would love to lose about 30-40 lbs so I can fit into all my clothes again. And I now live in an apartment complex with no less than two fitness centers, so I'm kind of running out of excuses here.

The book encourages you to move toward actions that make you feel good about yourself. You make small changes week to week that add up. You can recondition yourself to want to do things that are healthier. It can't be a punishment for being bad or it will never work. Also, weight loss is a side-effect of doing things that make you feel good. Just read it! :xoxo:

Wow! Well you should apply with parks in Colorado...then we can hang out and watch Golden Girls while I torture you with my Harry Potter philosophizing :D

Anchorage is where my friend lives - she was in the Air Force but they threw her out - she just never left the area...and her brother (who is now one of my closest friends) was just up there in November..the pictures he took are amazing.
