Saddam sentenced to death

Are we surprised? Does anyone care? Does this really mean anything to us? The Iraqi people? How involved is the U.S. and/or U.N. in this trial?

I can't help but feel that this sentence is mostly to say "see, we told you, we are winning, we brought the bad man to justice & now he'll pay." Am I wrong?

estranged4life 12-27-2006 12:26 PM

I guess...

it is supposed to give the US citizens the impression that Bush had a successful "mission accomplished" in regards to terrorists, Iraq & those pesky WMD's (I found a WMD this morning, Unfortunately the 'terror suspect' did not cover that WMD up in the litter box...Damned "Feline Extremists'!!!)

Yeah. We shouldn't be involved in this. He should be sentenced to prison for the rest of his life. But hanging? What does that say about democracy to the rest of the middle east?

Oh yes. It's one for the history books. And I don't think we'll come out of this one looking too good.

Definitely. I'm sure many of them feel pretty strongly about this. At this point, they probably have mixed emotions about the whole deal.

It doesn't matter. What does matter is that we will always be perceived as responsible for this. And I don't think that's a good thing for us in the long run.

eclipse 12-27-2006 12:35 PM

The guy that found him that day in the hole should have shot him that day-
Said-
Sorry, he tried to escape-, I had to use deadly force

Same result
Saddam is dead

Tons and Tons of money saved on trials and rherotic, and theroy's and people's misery wathing this man parade around on TV in a courtroom waiting for his verdict while thier family members were already dead, maybe after they were tortured...Justice? doesn't exist for these sad people, just revenge

The American sholdier should have just shot him and be done with it.
But...that is not what we do...we don't decide the law, or invoke it ,we just bring criminals into custody...maybe we should have made an exception and just shot the bastard----

PsychCat 12-27-2006 12:51 PM

I know this will sound political incorrect and wussy sixties, But when I was 15 I wore a button that said "why do we kill people who kill people to show that killing people is wrong?"

This modern world should know better. This is gonna put a deeper canyon between worlds than one can imagine.

Who's gonna hang W.?

I got my cam ready.

 They keep saying now, "this weekend". Yeah. Let's kill a world leader during a time where there will be masses of people in one setting celebrating New Years.....perfect for "terrorist".

We are dumb for leaking this information to the world. Sets us up. This whole thing is so outlandish, I can't believe it's happening.

I agree..and it is so damn creepy!:distress:

irishgrl 12-28-2006 10:32 PM

what with his last words to Iraqis and his goodbyes to his family, you watch, he'll be played off as a martyr for the cause (political)........

The sectarian violence will only increase and that country will implode IMO.

Personally, I am not sure I agree with a death sentence, but of course they didnt pass the memo my way.......In a strange sort of way, I feel compassion for him at the end, knowing that he will soon have to face his earthly deeds...thats an awful lot of bad Karma to have to overcome..........

PREACH IT!!!

irishgrl 12-29-2006 08:40 AM

I read that a watchdog group (forget which one) said his trial was a joke, that there were all sorts of miscarriages of justice and that the sentence wasnt valid because the trial wasnt proper....

DavidMn 12-29-2006 01:23 PM

******alert*****

I just saw online this morning where his execution will be carried out no later than Sunday.

It seems they are in a great hurry to carry this out.

gypsysoul 12-29-2006 04:06 PM

Well they're saying within hours now.

Not only will a martyr be created but it will be a convenient peg for some on which to hang future acts of violence. So yeah, a clever move all round:rolleyes:

Now they're saying he's to be executed before 6AM Saturday....!

What's even more sick and morbid is US TV execs are weighing airing this thing. It's apparently being taped...I just heard about it on NPR...:distress:

Can we be more disrespectful to a human life? Sure he was considered a bad man, but come on!

I disagree. I don't think it's sick and morbid enough! I mean, it's a simple hanging. They should cut out his tongue, chop off his hands, and chop off his little dictator. THEN hang him. Now, to top it off, they should have a pool to see what actually killed him: choking or bleeding. In short, they should do unto him just some of the awful things he did to others.

Thanks..I forgot to mention that the 6am was Bagdhad time.

And while the hanging is not something I wish to see....if tv execs do decide to air it I'm betting it'll be a ratings hit.

They have confirmed that it won't be aired on live tv-thank god. That doesn't stop someone from videotaping it and putting it on youtube though.

Who would want to see that????? OJ..yes!

estranged4life 12-29-2006 10:00 PM

The national news channels are reporting he will be put to death within minutes from now.

Nixxxed 12-29-2006 10:16 PM

This doesn't make a bit of sense to me. How is it that Bush has kept peons from al-Qaeda and the Taliban locked up in Gitmo since 2001, and continues to keep them there (and possibly continues to torture them) because he claims they *may* still have valuable information, yet we're letting the Iraqis kill Hussein when we *know* he has valuable information?

For instance, was Saddam waterboarded to finally confess that he did in fact have connections with al-Qaeda and was involved in 9-11 (as Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld have claimed ad nausem since before the Iraq war began)? Doesn't Saddam have valuable and juicy info on his neighbors, specifically IRAN? I could go on and on and on...

Never mind the fact that his sentencing hearing was fake, and was timed to occur two days before our midterm elections. This whole thing leaves me with a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.

SteveMacD 12-29-2006 10:18 PM

And...He's wormfood.
