Nicole Richie arrested, investigated for DUI

BURBANK, California (AP) -- Nicole Richie was arrested early Monday for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol, authorities said.

California Highway Patrol officers took Richie, 25, into custody without incident after she failed a field sobriety test, CHP Officer Todd Workman said.

Her black Mercedes sport utility vehicle was stopped in the car pool lane of State Highway 134 when officers arrived.

Authorities said they received 911 calls about a car going the wrong way on the freeway and the car matched the description of Richie's.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department report, Richie was set free on $15,000 bail.

Richie, star of "The Simple Life" reality series and daughter of pop singer Lionel Richie, was booked in Glendale, tested for drugs and released later Monday morning, Workman said. He said the results of the drug test hadn't been determined.

A message left with Richie's publicist wasn't immediately returned.

Burbank is 10 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.

No seriously though, driving the wrong way on the freeway!?! That's some serious stuff right there, if that happened and it was her (or anyone really), she could have killed herself and others....

To call this gal a knucklehead is the understatement of the decade.
Driving while drunk is unexcusable...... and yes, I do have personal experience with someone being killed by a drunk driver so I have NO tolerance there.
Driving on the wrong way on the freeway? Now that is some serious stuff there and rarely turns out with a happy ending.
It's amazing how clueless these "rich kids" are and how their parents are so apparently uncaring. :shrug: :confused:

These celebrities are rich enough to hire drivers, but they continue to drive drunk and put innocent people at risk. That pisses me off.

So it's the Vicodin that's keeping her so thin. I hope her family gets her some help. She really needs it.

She wasn't drunk. She admitted to the cop that she was on Vicodin and had smoked some weed. And yeah, get a driver.

Allegedly, she had her stomach stapled or banned and it went bad. As a result, has problems obtaining nutrition through food. Whether this is true reamins to seen, but it is consistent with her cryptic public statement that she has a medical problems, etc.

Vicodin is a controlled substance. If it was just weed, she'd be charged with some sort of misdemeanor possesion unles she had a huge amount on her. If she had a prescription, then they simnply would have charged her with driving while impaired. I am drawing these conclusions from what I read on The Smoking Gun. Possession of a controlled substance is a felony, I believe. She has a prior bust for possesion of heroin, so I'm guessing that this new charge is a felony.

I am still suprised she didn't have a prescription. But now I'm also thinking, how the heck much vicodin would you have to take to make you drive the wrong way on a freeway and stop in a carpool lane? Even if she smoked, too? :shocked:
Moron. She should have license suspension and mandatory rehab. She has shown at least five or six ridiculous and severely mentally impaired decisions in this little story. I mean, really moronic.

I don't know if you've ever taken Vicodin but from my own personal experience with it you think you're all okay when you're really not. Combine that with being only 85 pounds (if that) and some really good weed and next thing you know, you're driving the wrong way down the freeway. Now, I've driven the wrong way on a one way street while sober, so it can happen, especially at night.

What kind of quack would give that procedure to someone who is not obese? :distress:

At 85 lbs she pretty much could have licked the vicodin and had an effect.
If she didn't have a pattern of being a knucklehead, that would be one thing but she's just like those others, ie. Brittney, Paris, Lindsay who have way too much time and money on their hands.

Yeah - Vicodin totally knocks me on my ass - so I can't imagine what it'd do to an 85 pound girl who is also smoking weed...all in all a wildly stupid decision on her part..or actually several stupid decisions...

What sucks is she's going to get a mere slap on the wrist (I'm suspecting) for this..wanna start taking bets on when she'll "go into rehab"??

Watch the publicists start spilling all the tragic medical personal dirt ASAP. They will try to get sympathy for the poor sad tragic little rich girl and hope that the police are nice to her and let her off with a warning - after all she is so sick and has had such a hard time. Major move to elicit pity.

Ah well, it seems that people like this exist simply for the bizarre entertainment of the rest of us. Circus sideshows have been shut down, so the useless and talent-free wealthy are the new freaks. It's not like she even has something cool like a tail, a half grown twin hanging off her side, or an extra leg. I suppose the most remarkable thing about her is that even with all that money they can't make her look good. Ugly celebrities. They're all the rage! I guess there actually is something freakworthy about her after all.

The first and second time a person gets busted the judge can order some type of drug treatment program for them. In looking at the Smoking Gun website again, it appears that she is only being charged with a misdemeanor. I was looking at the felony charge from her heroin bust in 2003. So maybe she did have a prescription for the Vicodin.
I was reading elsewhere that Courtney Love was cleared of all charges today as she successfully underwent drug treatment.
I know Nicole admitted on Oprah that she gained weight after getting out of rehab and that she went back to her "natural" figure later when her body had adjusted to being clean. So I guess what she really meant was she had the surgery? Shame, shame. You can't lie to Oprah! :lol:
