sorry-just let me vent, b*tch, rant..whatever you want to call it..
alright. So I've been at my job for 9 1/2 years. I started right out of high school and have loved it ever since. Granted, there have been some ups and downs. It took me a couple of years to build up the confidence that I could actually do this and to be able to put up with my boss. SO. I have been his right hand "woman" for all this time. He raves about me. Tells me I'm the best assistant he's ever known. I have made several temporary crowns for people, then they would have to go see a specialist for whatever reason. These dentists are calling telling him it was the best temporary they have ever seen, etc. blah blah. One guy even had to double check the chart and ask the patient because he couldn't tell the difference from mine and the real tooth. I'm basically the office manager (although I have never been given that title NOR the $$$$ it's just something I do ). I'm the person that has to go around behind everyone and "clean up" where they F*CK up. I've been there the longest, so everyone comes to ME, not him if they ever have a question about....anything. They don't go to him because he either a. makes them feel like a complete idiot, or b. he confuses them so much because he is wishy washy, they are more confused than when they went in there. and then my favorite. When it's 5:30 and everyone else is walking out the door and we still have a patient..who do you think stays?? well, they can't come to the back and help, so it's me. And I've always been fine doing it (even though I bitched about having to stay until 7:00 pm tuesday) I never get an hour lunch because it's "the nature of my job" and always the last to leave... I'm saying all of this because of the following. I just found out another employee (who I have to basically train-even though she does financial arrangements, and I'm clinical) is making...oh...8 dollars more than me.  and she doesnt' do jack ****.
SO. yeah. that's my problem. So now for the solution. I can either quit and not give a reason. hey, he screwed me over so screw him. OR-quit and tell him why. OR. basically tell him if she is worth more to him than me, then when it comes 5:00, I'm walking out the door and her ass can get up and come to the back and help him finish. After all...she IS more valuable. There are a LOT of things that he has done over the years but this one takes the cake. So.....thanks for letting me vent. I'm just....slightly pissed.... |
Wait 24 hours to calm down and then ask him for a raise. If he says no, then quietly start looking for another job as you likely will need him for a reference and it usually is much easier to get a job when you have a job.

Geez..I wish you'd stop whining, Michelle. :p
Just kidding - that actually really does suck and it's completely unfair. Now the two options you gave - could there be a third in which you talk to your boss about this? Or do you not have that kind of relationship? I don't think it's ever easy to talk to superiors about money, but sometimes you just gotta do it. Do you get annual raises and stuff - and are they fair? Why is this chick making more than you..is it an education thing? A training thing? I would be pissed too...I mean you've been there for 9.5 years AND had to train this girl? That's crap....and your boss should know that... So I'd say if you stick to your scenarious I'd go the quit and tell him why route... |

thank you for your advice, and I will give it some time. |
one other thing. in our office we aren't supposed to talk about how much we make (now I f*cking know why...he's screwing us!!! ) So I can't just go to him and be like.."she makes more than me"....) I found out through not so honorable sources....so...
and deanna-kiss my ass!!!! :xoxo: |

:p Sorry.
Hmm....well you could broach the subject without bringing up the other chippy and what she makes. But I think Jason's on to something - wait a bit and cool down, see how you feel tomorrow...:o Or Monday rather... |

ESPECIALLY 8 damn dollars.....and I make decent jack. Quote:

You've proved what I always thought - the better you are at your job, the more people take advantage of you and the more they expect you to actually do...
And my other theory - the less people do, the more they get paid. Anyway, this is your rant, not mine :p I would bite your lip and ask nicely for a raise - a decent one, and have ready a long list of points to bring up if your request is rejected. That should hopefully initiate a cordial discussion about what you're worth - and if you don't get proper recognition then maybe start looking for work elsewhere. As long as there's no animosity you'll still get a good reference from them or else they can stuff up your jobsearch. Anyway, I've seen your picture and I reckon you're worth a big pay raise :o (That's my "typical male" superficial comment for the week) |

The only two Kentuckians I've heard talk at length are Louise Slaughter (now a Congresswoman representing NY) and Loretta Lynn...and those are THICK...
It's so weird to me when I hear Ledgie voices..(that sounds like some sort of mental problem)...like when I've met people from here it's always such a trip to hear them actually speak for the first time.... |

Oh that's right......they don't go.:p |

My friend quit over bad circumstances. He told her he would have a job for her as a hygienist when she graduated which would have been in a month....(she worked as an assistant for 2 years in our office, so it's not like she just fell out of the dumpster) and then 2 days later he hired someone. wtf?? and told her he never said that. ... |

Well I wish you luck in whatever you decided to do....let us know...:o |

thanks :xoxo: I'll let ya know. Unfortunately I have about 1 1/2 weeks of vacation to burn and a hefty christmas bonus coming to me next week. I may be able to suffer through it for a little longer.. |

This is bull****. But you can't tell your boss you know and you can't threaten him that you would leave under such circumstances because it isn't professional. I would go with Strand's advice. Also, don't wear yourself out so much, ask someone else to stay, etc. Obviously he doesn't appreciate all that you do. |

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - MY KY relatives are lucky if they have 50% of their teeth left(and a percentage of those may be in a jar!):D |
Since you have an excellent reputation and are know to other dentists in the community, you should go into business for yourself and get paid what you're really worth.

I've been right where you are before...almost exactly, albeit in another field. I'd go and express your concerns in a professional manner, ask for the raise. if he says no, then start looking. but, you have to really weigh the pros and cons regarding your seniority where you are. believe me, I wish I hadn't left my last job over $5,000 a year. I was at the tip top of the totem pole. yeah, I worked my ass off and stayed late, blah blah, but I basically ran my dept. I had baby attorneys as assistants and THAT doesn't happen usually, etc. and I'd give back the $5,000 raise to be back there. now, here I sit at the low end of the pole, with no seniority. just something to think about. |

BUT...for my update. I walked in this morning and at 7:45 he asked me to go in the consultation room to "talk". I walked in there, and he was on the phone with his wife having and argument."honey..do you REALLY have to talk to me like that?? can you just PICK up my glasses??!!" I was thinking..."ho-ly ****" but he pulled me in there and gave me a dollar raise!!! So I didn't have to go raise hell. I AM excited, but money is not what drives me. Anyone that has had a conversation with me longer than 5 minutes knows I'm very passionate about what I do, so we'll just see. This will hold me over for a little bit ;) |

Just...make sure if I get you wine, don't spill it all over the damn floor. I hate cleaning up messes. |

Congrats on the raise - I thought about you this morning when I went to the dentist lol.....and then I had some weird reaction to the laughing gas..it was really weird... |

and i can't make any promises about the wine ... |

Well, if you work 40 hours, that's an extra 40 bucks a week! $160 a month! Great news! Glad to hear it!
|
good you got a raise, that always helps. but since you say you're more concerned with where your career is going, I wouldn't let that be the end all be all. take a month to evaluate. seriously, make a list of pros and cons and revisit it in a couple weeks.
|
Great news  and I'd also agree 100% with this:

They put the mask on and I started to breathe and thought "wonder how long this takes to kick in" then it kicked in - like right away. My heart started just racing....then I see like darkness...but I can still my surroundings too - and there are two of me..like in my head  And I'm telling myself that I'm going to die... So the chippy asks how I'm doing and I manage to say my heart rate is racing...and she turned it down - but good god. Then after the affair the nausea hit....and I've felt like sh*t all day :distress: |
