It's that time of year again -Favorite Holiday Films!!

I think this is done every year...but what the heck - 'tis the season!!!

So what are you favorite movies of the holiday season?

Are there movies you only watch this time of year and have to watch every year?

The movies I watch every year at this time..sometimes multiple times:

Smoky Mountain Christmas (I can talk/sing along with the whole thing)
While You Were Sleeping
Mixed Nuts
It's a Wonderful Life (and it makes my cry EVERY time I see it)

More recent holiday faves:

Love Actually
Elf

Get out of my head! Those were the exact two I was about to put down. I could (and have) watch these over and over and never get tired of them. And, I've NEVER seen It's a Wonderful Life. My dad loves it and used to watch it every year. I tried watching it with him one time and couldn't make it...was too boring and LONG for me.

Oh, and I also always watch A Charlie Brown Christmas. I'm loving all the stuff Urban Outfitters has for sale this year associated with it. The Charlie Brown tree and Linus' blanket  very cool.

Oh yeah...I'll still watch that damn Home Alone every time it's on! I somehow never got tired of it.

I'm sure there are others that I look forward to each year but can't think of off the top of my head. I'll let y'all know when I do.

Brad, I have always known we were soulmates. I have never watched It's A Wonderful Life and people act like I'm so weird because of that. Plus, A Christmas Story is my alltime favorite.
See? Soulmates. (Maria, be quiet)

we both hate that movie. I saw a t-shirt with that dumbass kid earlier tonight (Took a chance and went shopping dispite the bad weather  ) that said "Careful with that gun you may put someone's eye out" with his eyeglasses shot & cracked...I thought about purchasing it, doing some mindful 'good taste' art alteration and have the kid's brains blown out instead (To match my infamous "Have a Nice Day" bullet hole thru the head with blood poster that is too my left side as I type this response)

Edit: My picks:

White Christmas (Bing Crosby & Danny Kaye)
Any of the clamation children movies
A Charlie Brown Christmas (Vince Guaraldi Trio's soundtrack is GOD!!! Love that damn thing-Believe or not, I love jazz music too!)

I would say to those who maybe tried to watch It's a Wonderful Life as kids but found it boring - give it another chance- I found it boring as a kid too - but it's so not...it's such a beautiful movie - ohhh now I can't wait to watch it again.

And I forgot the Muppet Christmas Carol - it's the only version I can sit through anymore...and I love it...

And I also love A Muppet Family Christmas

As a direct result of that clip I have never been able to sing the song any other way...I always sing "a bear a snowman like you" :p

michelle2677 11-30-2006 10:29 PM

Back up bitches. Brad and i will watch its a wonderful life together and it will be the best movie he's ever seen! sorry ladies- somebody had to break up this hijack :D ;)

Home For The Holidays (Jodi Foster directed) is a hilarious one and something that always get played a couple of times in December in my home.

is this really that good,? i have wanted to see it, but someone told me it insinuates that there isn't a santa, not sure if that is true or not, i was just told that, & my son still believes (prolly his last yr, he is 7) & i wanted to keep this feeling for him as long as possible, that is why we have never seen it?~ is it a good show to share w/ my son?, we love watching christmas movies together~

irishgrl 12-01-2006 07:27 AM

it deals with a boy who has doubts about Santa who gets a ride on a magic train to the north pole and sees santa with his own eyes. I think its wonderful and so does my 6 yr old...if thats any help....

sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet, i will have to get it then!!!~

irishgrl 12-01-2006 07:34 AM

be careful, the sound quality goes up and down, the loud parts are really loud and the soft parts are really soft (like at the very very beginning) but anytime you have the train, turn the sound DOWN! you'll see

I'm on the fence about The Polar Express. My sister gave me the book for Christmas the year before the movie came out, and I love it. The story is about how as you get older you stop believing in things like Santa. The problem I had was that since the book was so short, they really had to pad up the movie to make it a full feature. There are actually some things about this one that may be a little frightening for small kids. It's a little creepy because you know it's animated, but it's still very realistic. The elves give me nightmares, and I didn't really care for Tom Hanks doing the voice of Santa Claus. I say get the book because it's a wonderful story, and rent the movie if your are into spectacular effects and very realistic animation.

NO kidding! Last year I just got a really good surround sound system and I was playing the DVD. When the train came, my whole apartment shook like there was really a train pulling in. I'm sure my neighbors loved that!

I love this movie. The elves look like miniature adults (does that make sense?)
which kinda surprised me, but they arent creepy  my 6yr old had no problem with them.....I was expecting something a bit different, but I love every other part of the story. I especially love the HOT CHOCOLATE dance/song!!! that is awesome!

here is the trailer:

They creeped me out. Especially the Steven Tyler elf! I think it was a combination of the fact that they looked like real men, just little, combined with their voices. They didn't have cute happy elf voices. Remember the scene where the little boy who never gets presents finds his in Santa's sack? The elves catch them and try to take the present, but the little boy wont let go. Well, when that elf says "Trust me" in that scary raspy voice, it makes my skin crawl. It's like the voice I picture a monster that lives under someones bed would have! You think I analyzed this too much?
