Gwen Stefani: The Sweet Escape
I was given a promo copy of the album and I really, really like it. it's got a lot of elements that made her first album successful, though not as progressive.
some good ballads, good rap songs, good dance songs. all in all, a good album. |
I'm not meaning to hijack your thread, but has No Doubt officially called it quits?? I love them together, and her solo. She's always been too cool!
|
no. reports are that Gwen has said she's not doing another solo album so that No Doubt can do another project.
I guess we'll have to wait and see if it actually happens. |

Gwen recently gave an interview with MTV addressing No Doubt:
Stefani first came to fame with the band but left temporarily to give her solo career a shot. She has a new solo album out next month called ‘The Great Escape’, but thinks it will be her last. Speaking to MTV Stefani said: "I don't think I will make another (solo album). I can't predict anything, but I don't plan on making one of these solo dance project records, I definitely feel myself going back to No Doubt after this to do a new album." However, she went on to say that she has so many songs she could fill another album: don't really know what will happen with those other songs, there's probably about ten left over. I could (make) an album with them really fast! So we'll see what happens, I mean you can always use them for something at some point or I could just listen to them myself and be greedy." Or sell them and be greedy? http://www.entertainmentwise.com/news?id=25151 |
Sorry dudes, but that new song, Wind it Up? Hella annoying.

I don't much care for Gwen as a solo artist. I LOVED "What You Waiting for?", but the glossy pop/hip hop sound doesn't work for me. Im dying for her to go back to her rock roots... |

And not the finest lyricist, I must say. High on the hills with the lonely goatherd, lay-od-lay-od-lay-he-hoo Yodell back with the girl and goatherd, lay-od-lay-od-low Wind it up Wind it up, uh, uh, uh, uh Yodellay, yodallay, yodal-low (Yeah) This is the key that makes us wind up When the beat comes on, the girls all line up And the boys all look, but no, they can't touch But the girls want to know why the boys like us so much They like the we dance, they like the way we work They like that way that L.A.M.B. is going across my shirt They like the way my pants, it compliments my shape (She's crazy, right?) They like the way we react everytime we dance Everytime the bass bangs, realize it calls your name Let the beat wind you up, and don't stop till your time is up Get in line now Wind it up, uh, uh, uh, uh Wind it up, uh, uh, uh, uh Yodellay, yodallay, yodal-low You've got to let the beat get under your skin You've got to open up, and let it all in But see, once it gets in, the poppin' begins And then you find out, why all the boys stare They're trying to bite our style Trying to study our approach They like the way we do it, so original [ these lyrics found on www.completealbumlyrics.com ] I guess that they are slow, so they should leave the room This beat is for the clubs, and cars that go Everytime the bass bangs, realize it calls your name Let the beat wind you up, and don't stop till your time is up Get in line now Uh, uh, uh, wind it up, uh, uh, uh, uh (Ya'll ready) Wind it up, uh, uh, uh, uh Wind it up, uh, uh, uh, uh Yodellay, yodallay, yodal-low Uh huh, it's your moment Uh huh, come on girl, you know you own it Uh huh, you know your key is still tick-tockin' Hell yeah, and you know they're watchin' Get it girl, get it, get it girl Get it girl, get it, get it girl To the font, to the side, To the back, but don't let him ride Keep goin' girl, it's your night Don't let him steal your light I know he thinks you're fine and stuff But does he know how to wind you up? (Come on) Wind it up, uh, uh, uh, uh Wind it up, uh, uh, uh, uh Yodellay, yodallay, yodal-low, hey! |

Thanks for the info, jazzy. I love Gwen. Love. I love how well she's aging, how youthful she still is, how buoyant. She's so effervescent and bubbly and sparkly, yet with a deeper emotional edge which she doesn't overuse, but instead it pops up and suprises you during her songs. And her facial expressions are so expressive. Also, I love how she mixes genres so well, it's nice to have an album with lots of different sounds/types/rhythms/etc. on it. I really respect that in artists if they do it well. I'm not really into the people who think she's not acting her age. As if there is a proscribed formula for how you are supposed to act. You gotta act how you feel inside. She seems so fun, and people have plenty of time to act boring, so I think her buoyancy is very special for her age. Especially her athleticism in performances, that is my very favorite thing. She just seems so full of energy. She is a little bigger than life, exaggerated, and more charismatic and active than your average person, and that is what I like in my people. Like why I like Stevie. I smell jealous haters.... Yep, she's my girlfriend. If I was a rock/pop star, I would be Gwen. Not because I want to be, but I mean, comparing how I really am with all rock stars...hey, that would be a fun thread... |
Well, it's odd that she is doing the whole black bling thing. Kind of annoying. I liked a few No Doubt songs and I even kinda liked that What You Waiting For song.
But, I worked with her once, and had to listen to her do a few hours of interviews. Man...box of rocks city. And about as well spoken as a seventh grader. Plus she lip synched everything and wiped her nose a lot...hello 1977. Not impressed. She's nice though, and her implants look good. |

When was the interview? I hope she's not still doing coke with the baby and everything... And I'm actually really glad to hear she's nice, extra points. Why was she lip synching? She doesn't lip synch at her live shows...was it for a T.V. performance? Her voice has taken quite a beating, I wonder how much? |
I like Gwen. I think she's pretty straight now, with the kid and all.
I have seen her on tv sing live a lot...so she doesn't always seem to lip synch. Oh yeah, she totally had implants. I would say a high b at the most though, nothing too big. I can't wait for the new album. |

there are times when I think she's a little long in the tooth to be singing "yodelay yodelay yodelow", but then I realize I bust my ass dancing to her songs... |
I think she is utterly gorgeous...sort of porcelain-dollish...but I HATE that hair style she has been sporting. It's just really fake, even for her. If she did her own natural hair with bangs it would probably look amazing.
Her music is pretty fun. I like a lot of her first solo album and I'll probably get this one because I happen to like superficial dance music- especially when I run. I remember a friend of mine sent me a picture of her with her natural auburn hair and she looked even better than she does with blond hair. I wish I had the pic...from one of her videos or something. |

Yes, she truly did have mosquito bites. I liked it, she looked cute, and she had the right body type for it. I'm glad she kept them for so long. She could've had implants way sooner. |
I love Gwen!! I think she's #2 of the people I want to be . #1 is Stevie of course.

Apparently the yodeling is a shout-out to Sound of Music which she is slightly obsessed with....I've not heard the song yet, but am curious as I am also a big fan of that movie. Overall though Gwen just doesn't do it for me...I like some No Doubt songs, but I've yet to hear once Gwen song I like. |
