Megan Mallully not as funny as "KAREN"

Does it bug anyone else that Megan Malally (sp?) from will and grace is NOT FUNNY!! I keep catching her "talk show" here and there, and shes so freekin boring. I tuned in expecting to see KAREN who was my favorite part of will and grace, I allways hoped shed get her own show, or something, but they didnt give her a sitcom Which was a mistake, cause she is nothing like the character. IMHO. anyone else notice this painfully obvious observation?

strandinthewind 11-22-2006 01:34 PM

She is positively BORING as a talk show host.

DrummerDeanna 11-22-2006 01:34 PM

Nah - it doesn't surprise me - I've become used to this from funny tv ladies...I mean there are so many who I enjoy then I'll see them in an interview or something and BORING!

Megan M is one of them...
Courtney Cox comes to mind...

Ellen on the other hand was way entertaining and funny on her sitcom and remains so on her talk show...guess it depends on the actress :o

I didn't even know MM had her own show though...what channel is it on..or is it one of those syndication deals?

paleshadow 11-22-2006 01:42 PM

It's so funny that you are bringing this up! I just had it on while I was cleaning my apartment. I've seen her show a couple of times and it didn't really do anything for me, but I thought maybe it was because I wasn't interested in the guest, or some other reason. While it was on today I said to myself "This show really sucks", and I found myself wondering how long it would take for it to be cancelled.

DrummerDeanna 11-22-2006 01:44 PM

^^

It can't be any worse than Tony Danza's show...could it?? I saw that one a couple of times and pretty much wanted to shoot myself - it was so bad.

Yeah, I agree. I think that it's because on Ellens sitcom, she was basically playing herself. It wasn't really acting. I don't think the character of Karen is anything like Megan, and unfortunately Megan is kind of blah when she's just being herself.

Yeah, I had it on for 46 seconds once and couldn't take anymore than that. I think he started singing just as I frantically changed channels.

carrie721 11-22-2006 01:49 PM

i think megan is trying too hard to come off as sympathetic, in contrast to karen. unfortunately it comes off as saccharine and BORING. i couldn't sit through more than half an interview before i had to turn her show off. it's a shame, because she is very talented. the talk show is just not a good platform for her.

Ugh. I watched one day and he had Jack LaLane on...the health guy? It was a train wreck -they were trying a juicer or something, but it was just sad - I think I made it through five minutes and had to change it.

That's so true - I think she's definitely a character actress..I just saw an old rerun of Wings she was on...she's so great ya know..when she's not being herself

LOL @ my new name! that's going in my sig.

she's great as a character actress. i just caught her on frasier the other night, and she was hilarious. she was also on seinfeld, as george's girlfriend. another "yeah right!" girlfriend for costanza

Glad ya like it..I sure cracked myself up :p

I do remember her on Seinfeld - I didn't remember her on Wings so it was a nice surprise when I saw the episode - but I totally didn't recognize her...she used this dopey nasal voice...but I knew she was familiar...lo and behold it was MM...playing the town slut

SuzeQuze 11-22-2006 02:07 PM

That show is unwatchable. She also really needs a stylist.

DavidMn 11-22-2006 02:26 PM

Another ina long line of people that should have never gotten this opportunity. See Chevy Chase.

Are you refering to the "professional friend" Gail?
Does that woman not have a life (aka: pride) that she has to be forever known as "Oprah's friend"??

And people.... PLEASE.... let's not forget that during the "you too can have a talkshow era"....
Roseanne
Carnie Wilson

   :distress:

Oh geez - but at least those shows stay on....though for the life of me I can't figure out why

I remember toward the end of Sally Jesse's run every damn show was exactly the same...they were all about wild teens...those shows are pretty much all the same...

I had completely forgotten about Roseanne

chiliD 11-22-2006 03:28 PM

Megan Mullally also had a bit part on one episode of Frasier. The one where Frasier & Niles take those two ladies (one of them Megan) up to the cabin.

Phoenix 11-22-2006 03:56 PM

   THere is just too much that I want to reply to in this thread...
first, any time ANYONE ever says the words.."CHEVY" "CHASE" I experience hysterical laughter, and NOT because he was a comedian.haha.
Second, GAIL, is the "professional friend*cough*lover*cough* allways amuses me . seriously, they are NOT kidding anyone.stedman, pu-leeze.
third, Megan not funny mullally was also on an episode of Third rock from the sun, and was hillarious. She even used a prototype of the now-pattented "karen" voice.
fourth, to whoever said she needs a stylist BAD was RIGHT!!!, SERIOUSLY, IVE NEVER SEEN SO MUCH SECCOND HAND POLYESTER IN MY LIFE.

I miss KAREN......:distress:

BTFLCHLD 11-22-2006 04:08 PM

well, afterall, it is not the karen show. I haven't watched it but I would imagine if you were expecting Karen, it would be disappointing.

Rickypt 11-22-2006 04:21 PM

I'll probably lose my gay card over this, but I didn't find Karen to be funny after about 7-8 episodes. I've never seen the talk show. Megan is extremely talented though, I saw her perform with the Gay Men's Chorus (may I please have my card back) and she was great.

JazmenFlowers 11-22-2006 05:28 PM

I LOVE Karen.

I saw Megan on a tribute to Reba and she sang "You Can't Get a Man with a Gun" and I expected Karen to slip in here and there...but it was really flat. I mean, she sounded good, but no chemistry...

Well, after all, get back to me when youve seen the show :xoxo: , cause If
I was expecting it to be the "someone doing their taxes show" and tuned in to megan mallully........it would STILL be boring.:sorry:
And she IS extreemly talented. shes just not interesting.

I would, but I am not intersted in seeing Karen or Megan. I will take your word for it. I do wonder why she decided to do a talk show.

She probabally wanted to be more like chevey chase. I hear he's quite the trend setter.

goldustsongbird 11-22-2006 07:05 PM

RR disturbs me since I read the notes y'all wrote about meeting her and what a total be-yotch she is. ewwwww.....

And please, we can't leave out the classic late night talk show wannabees:
Alan Thicke
Arsenio Hall
Magic Johnson
Pat Sajak
and the aforementioned Chevy

Tony Danza should NEVER be allowed before a camera again EVER!
I love Martin Short.... but a talk show? .... not so much

I've always found her annoying, even on her three hundred food shows. She's a little more toned down on those ones, but why she even needs a talk show is beyond me. I can't believe they put her in Ellen's original timeslot! E should slap a ho for that one.

markolas 11-22-2006 08:25 PM

The character Karen was funny, but reminded me too much of my grandmother (the drinking, pill popping) so at the same time I was always a little put off by it. Never seen her talk show, but I don't own a TV. :D

BlackWidow 11-22-2006 09:22 PM

...no ****.;)

carrie721 01-04-2007 05:42 PM

shocking!

knew it wouldn't be too long now ...

from televisionista.net:

Quote:

NBC Universal has informed the staff of daytime talker "Megan Mullally" the show is officially canceled. Production of new episodes will cease effective immediately.

The first run syndicated strip hosted by "Will & Grace" star Megan Mullally launched in September 2006. Season-to-date it has been averaging a 0.8 rating.

The show will remain on the air for the rest of the month, airing a previously scheduled mix of original and repeat episodes.

"Megan" is the first syndicated freshman show of the 2006-07 season to get the axe.

SuzeQuze 01-04-2007 06:00 PM

She's horrible. Awful.

bikerchic 01-04-2007 06:46 PM

Thank god. I don't know who was worst, her or that Osbourne woman.

God, I just can't believe it was that bad. I should try and watch before it goes off air. She's charming and warm and witty during interviews.
I'm so disappointed, I love her.

I so hear that. Also, she was badly in need of a stylist. Seriously, it was like she wanted to be the anti-Karen and it so did not work.

estranged4life 01-05-2007 09:43 AM

I never watched...

"Will & Grace", but Megan Mullally seems like a typical Oklahoman with her sense of humor.
