Aircraft crashes into Manhattan high-rise
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/10/11/plane.crash/index.html
NEW YORK (CNN) -- An aircraft has crashed into the middle of a brick luxury high-rise residential building on Manhattan's Upper East Side at 72nd Street and York Avenue, police officials said. The building is very close to the East River. There was no word on casualties as firefighters battled the flames that shot up from several windows in the middle of the building. The Federal Aviation Administration has said a "general aviation" aircraft had hit the building. A North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) spokesperson, which monitors air traffic, told CNN that it had not been tracking the aircraft. Witness Sarah Steiner told CNN that fires were burning on the ground. "It looks like the plane just flew into someone's living room there." "It looks as if the aircraft didn't go into the building but fell down," she said. "It may be part of the debris burning on the ground." Steiner said that when she arrived, she saw fire shooting out of two windows on the 30th floor of the 50-story building. Video from the scene shows at least three apartments in the high-rise fully engulfed in flames. |

if you're not familiar with the building, this gives you a good idea of the location. |
It was all over the radio as I was driving to work.
White House Predicited Response ? "This was not proven to be a terror attack. But it is proof that such things can still happen. We are not safe. Be afraid, be very afarid. Vote Republican." |

Holy crap...
Cory Lidle was the pilot??? That is what the news is saying at this time.
Man, this is kinda eerily similar to another Yanks player's death in a plane accident: Thurman Munson |

man how sad:distress: :distress: :distress: ~ 4 killed so far i think it said~ |
any private pilots here? I have flown in/out of palm springs as a passenger on many occassions and I have to say the lack of security at these smaller airports is frightening...any one really can board a plane.
|
oh dear. :distress:

As a long-time Red Sox fan, my thoughts, prayers, and sympathies go out to the Lidle family.
I know what it is to lose a family member to a senseless tragedy. :distress: Word on the local news is that he was on his way here, to Nashville. Peace. |
I can second that as another Red Sox fan. This isnt about rivalries, this is abo;ut a man who lost his life and a wife and son that lost their Husband and Dad.:distress:

Another thing that really offended me was that the information got out before his wife could be notified. I know she was on a plane going to California, but I dont care. That was in VERY poor taste.

Okay, this is freaky. Write 10-11-06 (date of this accident) - and then turn it upside down.

Sorry to be morbid, but all I can think about when I see this is that this wouldn't have happened if the Yankees had won. :sorry: :p |

Admittingly, I thought the same thing and wouldn't doubt even his family did. It's not morbid.... just one of those things. |
