Lindsey joining Little Big Town on CMT Crossroads

I stole this from Seven Wonders, thanks to fmfan for providing the information:

LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM AND LITTLE BIG TOWN
COME TOGETHER FOR THE LATEST INSTALLMENT OF
“CMT CROSSROADS”

New Episode Premieres Saturday, December 2 on CMT

NASHVILLE – September 21, 2006 – Rock icon and former Fleetwood Mac front man Lindsey Buckingham will share the stage with smash country group Little Big Town for the newest episode of CMT’s landmark performance series, CMT CROSSROADS, set to premiere Saturday, December 2. The performance will tape in Nashville before an invitation-only audience on October 5.

CMT CROSSROADS pairs country music stars with popular artists from other genres—pop, rock, R&B—to play together, swap stories, and share their common love of music. Recent episodes of CROSSROADS have included Steve Earle and Rosanne Cash; Bonnie Raitt and Lyle Lovett; Lionel Richie and Kenny Rogers; Bon Jovi and Sugarland; and John Fogerty and Keith Urban.

Since 1975, when he and Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey Buckingham has lent his unique talents as a singer, songwriter, producer arranger and guitarist, to some of the biggest selling albums of all time. Rolling Stone magazine calls him “one of rock’s most undervalued visionaries.” He was largely responsible for masterminding the sound of the new Fleetwood Mac heard on Rumours, the band’s multi-platinum masterpiece. Never content with the status quo, Buckingham refused to settle for mere commercial excellence and continued to push one of the most popular rock and roll bands in the world to the cutting edge of rock/pop experimentation, exemplified by the groundbreaking, and critically acclaimed, Tusk. His first solo album in nearly 15 years, Under the Skin, is due out on Reprise Records October 3. It follows Out of the Cradle (1992), which The New York Times called “one of the most exquisitely textured rock albums ever made.”

It has been an incredible year for Little Big Town, beginning with last October’s release of their near platinum Equity Music Group CD, The Road to Here. The group has been a CMT regular since the debut of their first single, “Boondocks,” which resonated immediately with music fans across the board and went Top 10 on country radio. Their most recent single, “Bring It On Home,” marked the second video to take the No. 1 spot on CMT TOP 20 COUNTDOWN, and was the band's first ever Top 5 hit. The group just released "Good As Gone," the third single from their hit CD, along with a music video that is already burning up the CMT video playlist. Little Big Town were recently nominated for two CMA Awards: Vocal Group of the Year and Horizon. In addition to an extended tour with John Mellencamp, the band has recently played dates with some of the format’s biggest stars, including Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson and Keith Urban, and they performed at some of the industry's biggest shows, including a rocking set at the CMT MUSIC AWARDS pre-party.

THE GUY IS LOOSE!!!!!!!

what an exciting choice!

OOOH, to be there....

MacMan 09-21-2006 06:25 PM

You know. I heard something on the radio this morning. Lately I've been waking up to a country radio station for a change of pace. And this guy each morning has his little gossip/news report from Nashville, and I missed the very beginning of it - but he mentioned Lindsey's name and the radio crew were commenting that it sounded great!.

This must have been the news.

Exciting... Who the hell is Little Big Town?

chiliD 09-21-2006 06:25 PM

I'm just shocked that Lindsey's doing a Crossroads episode before Stevie's done one.

wondergirl9847 09-21-2006 06:31 PM

Holy Sheeeeeeeeeetttttttttttttttt!!!

OMG....I can't go to the taping of this :(:(:(:(:(:(:(, but AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! ETA: Invitation-only....okee. Never mind, can't go anyway. LOL

I am not familiar with Little Big Town...wait, is that the group with 2 guys and 2 girls...ala Abba? LOL

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

*DIES*

GREATEST YEAR EVER.

chiliD 09-21-2006 06:38 PM

I have high-hopes for this show.

The Keith Urban/John Fogerty one was awesome. The ZZ Top/Brooks & Dunn one was fantastic. The Kid Rock/Hank Jr. one was about what you'd expect, a total riot! And, the Dolly Parton/Melissa Etheridge one was just great, too.

wondergirl9847 09-21-2006 06:42 PM

Me too

They are always interesting and fun. Yep, Keith and John...well, it's a given I loved that one. Heh. I loved the Brad Paisley/John Mayer (Brad sang Daughters and Why Georgia better than John, I think. LOL) and Martina McBride/Pat Benatar episodes.

I can't believe this is all happening!!!!!

Me neither dear, and now I have a feeling that there's even more comin'up. He knows that his name and music alone don't draw the attention, so he's boostin' it now by taking alot of initiative.

Bite me in the arm, am I awake????

FMtastic 09-21-2006 06:59 PM

This is tremendous news. I don't know who Little Big Town is but exposure on a popular channel like that will be very good for Lindsey. As long as he doesn't pull a Natalie Maines, he might pick up some sales for this.

MacMan 09-21-2006 07:07 PM

It's plastered all over the Little Big Town site too - so THEIR fans will know for sure what's coming up. They sound like a nice group of players.

I'm kind of surprised by this news actually. I remember Lindsey commenting on the Dixie Chicks' cover of "Landslide" and saying that the record company wanted FM to do something on CMT to promote 'Say You Will.'
Lindsey said something to the effect that it wasn't his "thing."

I guess he's come around. :)

estranged4life 09-21-2006 09:39 PM

Sad...

that he would contradict what was said in an interview during the SYW tour that he would never appear on a country music network to try to attract new fans.

As for Little Big Town, Yawn!!! Watching plaster dry is more enjoyable than their brand of lame country music.

Of course I'll record it none the less for trade value (Have to say the whole idea of CMT Crossroads has gone stale to my taste)

FMtastic 09-21-2006 09:40 PM

I suppose Lindsey could have turned this down if he wanted, but this match was most likely not something that he went out and chose. I also think it's funny he said the Dixie Chicks were not his thing wehen you think about the twangy quality of some of his songs, especially the stuff he was doing in 1979-1981.

Accepting this gig, as puzzling as it may seem from a musical point of view, is about the publicity. He is going to will help him move some copies of Under the Skin and so, why not? After all, he has done made some questionable moves along his career to get his music out, like standing next to Stevie Nicks on stage, for example.

FMtastic 09-21-2006 09:44 PM

I just listened to some samples of this band and I am really not impressed at all. An album from 2002 sounds as generic as can be, and something from last year is a little better; some of the songs sound like Fleetwood Mac. The riffs on a couple of songs could have come from something like The Chain and the harmonies are something that Lindsey would get into.

It's an odd pairing, but that is probably the idea.

TwistedGypsy 09-21-2006 10:03 PM

Someone lit a fire under Lindsey's ass! Sounds like it will be a great show.

GypsySorcerer 09-21-2006 10:28 PM

I'm not very familiar with Little Big Town, but I'm looking forward to the show. Would have been cool to have seen him with Keith Urban... of course the KU/Fogerty show was awesome, as well.

justcrazylove 09-22-2006 01:23 AM

keith urban good, RYAN ADAMS, BRILLIANT.... he is a fan of lindsey's and i bet lindsey digs his stuff... thats who should be with him on this.. but never less this will expose him to a new audiance...and thats not a bad thing:nod:

Very true, I'd like to see him with Ryan too, but I also think this choice adds another chapter to Lindseys vision on his own artistry. Everyone who is a bit cynical about him and his noncommercial blabla must admit that the guy lives up to it as long he's not in FM. I really appreciate the fact that he keeps taking risks and does whatever he feels is good, not for sales but for his muse. No REM, no Ryan Adams, no Billy Corgan, even no Matthew Sweet, but Little Big Town....and AGAIN....I bow deeply.

John Run 09-22-2006 07:41 AM

What is interesting about Little Big Town's brand of country music and much of country music today, is that it owes much more to Rumours era Fleetwood Mac and the 70's california sound, (IE the Eagles) than it does to George Jones, Hank Williams, or even Elvis...Little Big Town also has some similarities to Fleetwood Mac. Alternating male and female lead vocals. A married couple, 4 part harmonies, instead of 3, but none the less a lot of multiple part harmonies.

I do remember the blurb about CMT Lindsey made, but the man has always contradicited himself and quite frankly he should jump at an opportunity to get his music to a wider audience.

For those who want a less processed more organic Lindsey this show could be enjoyable for you.

I agree. I work in radio and we have 2 country stations.. and I'm not big on this music. But Little Big Town is tolerable to me, and not as processed and pop-y as many other groups are.. regardless of what some others in this thread have indicated, imo. I can hear Lindsey fitting in some awesome guitar parts on top of some of the picking I've heard on various LBT songs.

wondergirl9847 09-22-2006 02:30 PM

Heh.

I'm going to tell myself that it was all us Ledgies who either met him or gave him letters/books/posters back in 2003-2004 asking him to PLEASE do another solo album and tour.

skcin 09-22-2006 03:52 PM

SHUT. UP.

This is very cool - although I've no clue who the hell Little Big Town is. I'll have to investigate. But wow, our guy's on fire!

BLY 09-22-2006 04:27 PM

This is Great!

Ledgies,
I think Little Big Towne is great! They have a very "FM" sound to them. I have some of their muisc and it always reminded me of early Lindsey/Stevie. This is still so not what we would expect from Mr. Buckingham but YES! I know somebody else said it but 2005-2007 is more projects than we have gotten solo from him in a 10 year span. Bring it on!

I agree! Local dj's have lauded Little Big Town as the "country version of Fleetwood Mac." As a matter of fact, a couple of the bands' members called in to the station once, and the dj actually told them that they reminded him of FM. The guy was completely blown away and flattered. Cool. And, I do enjoy their music, twangy as it may be. I love those harmonies.

As far as Lindsey contradicting himself about CMT or whatever, who gives a sh#t?? The man is FINALLY putting himself back out there, getting some exposure, and I LOVE IT!!!!! He's a giant contradiction, anyway!

yep. that's what I was going to say. there was a review of their album that said their song "Bones" sounded like "The Chain" - I think Little Big Town is a great group, great harmonies and a fine looking man in that group.

Carolina Girl 10-05-2006 02:52 PM

I just now noticed this note on Lindsey's web site about the CMT taping: "Click here for information on how you can bid for tickets to the invitation-only taping of the show!"

I cannot believe I missed a chance to try to get tickets!!!
