Lie About My Age?
Last night after kickball (yes I joined a kickball team - www.kickball.com) we were talking about drinking on a school night and how it is harder to recover now that we are older. My roommate and I had just met this guy who was talking to us about it and we were saying we were going to take it easy since it was Wed and we were older. He then asked how old we were. He thought I was lying when I said I was 35 and asked me repeatedly about it with a look of complete shock.
This is very flattering yet also makes 35 seem ancient. So I'm wondering, since I was at a bar and I don't take anyone seriously at a bar, should I just start lying about my age so I can avoid feeling like a frigging leper? The kid turned out to be 27. He's a very old 27 though since I thought he was at least 30. I probably won't bother lying but the idea seems appealing because I'd love to avoid that discomfort. It's just a little white lie, 27... 35, same thing right? |
I gave myself a GIFT of 5 years, two years ago. (if I'm in a bar, I lie by 5 years. HEY- I live in a college town!).:o

I've never lied about my age and actually have never even thought about it until now. I'm 42 and think I look pretty good for 42 and have been told by many that I don't look my age. I take that as a compliment and it makes me feel pretty damn good. So I'm proud of my age and how I look  I'd be afraid to say I was younger and then have people think, wow, you look alot older

I say if you can get away with it, do it! Theresa has a good point though- you don't want to be thought of as an OLD 27!

Yeah, I'd say you look about 41. You old hag. When I was in my teens & early 20's, everyone told me I looked older. A few years ago, it seemed to change & now people tell me they can't believe I'm in my 30's. Whatever. I really don't care. Suze - you look damn hot for ANY age, so if it were me I'd be damn proud to tell people I were 35. Let them think "holy ****, she's one hot bitch! At this rate she'll probably still be hot when she's 50!" |

It's not like me to lie anyway, although I might. |
Suze, you're beautiful at any age. :xoxo:
And as Stevie might say, age is a state of mind. ;) |

Right now, if I tried Kickball, I think I'd have a heart attack in about 5 minutes.

I'm 36 and proud of it..... but sometimes you have a dilemma like when I joined my band and the manager asked how old I was... I didnt know if I should say 35 or down my age a little to like 30... because in the Music industry they seem to think you are too old if you are over 30... but I ended up being honest and said "Im a young looking 35!" and I still got an audition.. and then I got the job! Yay!
I say go mysterious.... ask them to tell you how old you are... and if they think you are younger then you can go "HA!! I am really 35!" or say.."yes, you got it spot on!" Put yourself in the driver seat!;) |

And why is John on the wrong side of the stage? |

Lies Lies tell me sweet little lies
Be proud of those years you have lived, experienced, weathered...whatever
Each and every year that you are still breathing counts. So IMO, don't lie. Tell anyone that asks your age the truth. First of all..you never have to wonder who you told what.... and for another, we woman always age gracefully... (this coming from a 48 year old...and I can't believe that I am 48, but I am, and always are told I look in my thirties.) No one believes that I am as old as I am. But I am! Look at Stevie she doesn't look 58, at all...she doesn't tell lies about her age and neither should you :D Now.....weight, lovers, "do I look fat in these jeans" number of jobs, experience and income????? That is a whole other story |

First question: Me: Stevie. Second question: John on wrong side I suppose because we have an extra guitarist (rythym and b/v) and we want them on opposite side of the stage... so have had to sacrifice where John stands...(also I think our "John" feels more comfy on the side he is on.) I will have to mention it to the boys and see what they say...:p |
I say be truthful about your age. Suppose you lied, the guy fell in love with you and then you had to fessup later on...that would suck and you would appear untrustworthy even with a little white one. Be honest and proud that you look younger than your age. You didn't say mention that he thought you were younger, but I will assume he did. ;)

When I was 16 I picked up this woman at a football game (I was just smoother in my younger days) and told her I was 18 ---she was 21. Then we started dating and I felt AWFUL. We never mentioned the age thing again -then my birthday comes around and she asks, "how old are you going to be again?" And I fessed up....she probably knew anyway  Anyway - I'm generally not a fan of any sort of lying, even something at trite as age. BUT if it's someone you're just looking to have fun with - or may not really see again, then lie if you must...:p |

Not a bar-goer, I. |

The beauty of living in a college town? The scenery is always beautiful. Course, once you pass 25, you're considered OLD!:distress: |

In Rochester there were lots of bars/clubs where young professionals like myself hung out - I've not found that here...but that's more my scene. Basically I'm an uppity snob  |

And although I thought I was hiding the fact that I'm a snob too, I've been informed that I don't(hide it very well). |

Growing up my sister was 10 years older than I, and she got stuck watching me a lot - so I was around her friends and such a lot. I think that has resulted in my gravitation toward older crowds and people. Of course since I moved to Colorado I've not gone out AT ALL...so that's going to have to change sometime in the near future. |
My friend lied to her husband about her age when he first asked her out. She told him she was about 3 years older than she was. She thought he was too young and was trying to discourage him, which did not work. She also lied about her middle name. Woops. Her first and middle names rhyme and she thought that was some cruel joke so she lied about it to him. He was really pissed when he found out though. He's a very nice guy and fortunately for her it did not ruin things!

The first and last time I lied about my age was when my mom called my 18 yr old "boyfriend" and told him I was 15 not 17! :]

Well yeah - had I not come clean with my one and only age lie - it would have unraveled anyway as this gal came to pick me up for a date at home and my mom totally told her off, and revealed my real age. Ugly. Things didn't really last too long with that relationship  |
Last nite after kickball at the bar I asked a teammate to explain flip cup to me, the drinking game the kids play these days. He then asked me where I went to school and proceeded to tell me he's sure they played it at that school. I said it was after my time. He wouldn't tell me his age. He told me, before I told him the year I graduated, that maybe I was one of those people who doesn't look my age.
I know I'll probably never lie about it. As uncomfortable as it can be to be "outted" I think I'd be more uncomfortable trying to lie. I'm not a good liar. I suppose that is something to be proud of. :D By the way, said teammate is tall and very cute. Damn baby boys. |
