Misheard Stevie Lyrics

My latest favorite was "Illume"
Originally I thought she said:
"Illume..like Keith's dad said, I am a cliffdweller from the old school.
instead of -
"Illume..like it dances. LOL!:D

Next time listen for it..it's a Keith Olsen reference..lol!!!

iamovercome 09-13-2006 10:26 PM

When I heard EO17 for the first time I thought she said "I will f*ck will an angel desire to please"

Me too!

"But never have I been a blue corn seed/I have always been a storm."

I think I actually sang that out loud a few times before it actually registered that it made no sense.

"Paper Doll" ~
"Yesterday I was masterbated by somebody else..."

Horrible, I know....but true...

 That one really made me LOL.

We've had several threads like this, of course I can't find them now for some reason.

For years I thought that "well I've showed you all my cards" from TTM was "Well I've showed you, oh my God, well isn't that enough"

Someone posted that they (or someone they knew) thought "pick up the pieces" from GDW was "pick up the pizzas." I still laugh about that one. :D

michelle2677 09-14-2006 12:58 PM

I have several

Stop draggin my heart around on "so you had a little trouble in town"
I thought was "ran a little trouble"

or is it the other way around??

anyway-NQA
"when I see him..I feel him-there's an intenseness, in him...in his eyes"
I thought was "there's an intenseness..in his arms...in his eyes"

paper doll-
"he says 'well I have forgotten you and your beautiful eyes' "
I thought was "your beautiful lies"

I don't want to know
correct: "finally baby-the truth has been told"
michelle:"finally baby-the truth is getting told"
correct: "you say you love me but you don't know"
michelle:"but you don't boy"

I know someone who thought gypsy was "you'll say you're a gypsy" and on "the chaaaaain...keeps us together"-they looked at me and said "who in the hell is shane??"

that's all for now. There are tons

I just had to listen to NQA. I was SURE it was 'in his arms'! :o

I have a few others too:

It took me forever to realise she wasn't singing "I'm waiting for a kneejerk to just something I must do" in Kick It.

I thought the line in Greta was "just how many odd lovers can one get to know"

The Nightmare is the worst for misheard lyrics for me.

"She paled in the wake" becomes "she failed in the way"

and

"Well, if she had flung out her heart against him
Then in all of her wisdom" becomes "Well she has love in her heart that gets invented all the wisdom"

I think I need to take a refresher course in Nicksian lyrics :o

BlackWidow 09-14-2006 01:43 PM

In Gypsy..I thought she sang:
"She was just a witch..she was just a witch"
Instead of, "She was just a wish"

foxyluva 09-14-2006 04:49 PM

When I first heard "Everday", I could have sworn Stevie was singing:

"Everyday I see you,
Everyday I need you,
Everyday I breed you..."

You probably were !

aleuzzi 09-14-2006 04:59 PM

Here are two howlers:

1. The first time I eard "Landslide" (back wen I was about 10) I thought se sang "And when I saw my reflection it was no cup of tea."

2. Then, later, when "Stand Back" came out I first thought "I need a little sympathy" (at the end) was "I need a little simple beat."

the one I have so burned into my head is from After the Glitter Fades.....
"Even tho the lemonade's sometimes laced with limes, t'sallright...".
I even have been known to sing it this way, when alone of course.

michelle2677 09-14-2006 06:38 PM

My dad thought she was saying "sand bags" in Stand Back on the radio when I was little.

My ten year old thought the lyric in Dreams was "when the rain washes you, clean your nose".

Ah yes! Someone else with the blue corn seed head. I somehow made it make sense to me until I finally learned the real lyric and then it was, "Of course!"

My friend thought that in Stand Back

"Like a willow I can bend" was
"Like a weirdo I can't dance"

 She was trying to learn the song and had written out the lyrics. I nearly peed when I saw that line.

Someone once said they thought "Enchanted" was "aunt Janet". Oh that kills me.

I know I used to get a bunch wrong but I can't think of them right now!

joshywashy377 09-15-2006 07:53 PM

During the bridge part of I Cant Wait I thought the wierd voice thingys said "how will your donation help me?"

OMG!! When i was a wee whipper snapper my Dad played this I thought she sang "weirdo" too. I was like "yeh, you'd REALLY yell Stand Back at a weirdo. You'd just kick him and run. lol.

I thought that was "poly is interational". No, that isn't a mispell, that's exactly how I sang it, KNOWING it made no sense.

joshywashy377 09-16-2006 07:12 PM

I've done that exact same thing, where u know it doesnt make any sense but you gotta sing something. My mom always played Gypsy in the car when i was young and I would sing "like lis-drives, maybe once maybe twice" and "to a room with sownlays and vapor flowers"

DrummerDeanna 09-16-2006 08:42 PM

My sister thought in gypsy it was, "She was just a witch..."

amber 09-16-2006 08:56 PM

   You guys are cracking me up.

Ah, when don't I mishear her lyrics? I happily have been singing songs for years without knowing them. My best made up ones were from Storms, because they still made sense. I still don't quite know that one part in Edge. I mean, I've looked up the lyrics, but then I forget again. I just sing whatever same noises she is singing right then. Gold & Braid was another challenge. The whole "easycuhtheteassheseesa payethweh,anasehsehgoieyy,uh-sheslistowusadooway-waietheyalwayalltheseyeahs"

ahem:

"Living, through each, empty night. Identical inside."

"So I search to find a next affair - so I can truly win."

See? Those lyrics could work, too, right?

Compared to the misheard lyrics y'all have posted here, I now feel like a genius. But actually, you guys thought some good ****, mostly when I can't understand Miss Thing, I just sing the sounds rather than making stuff up, but you guys made up some funny ****.

God, the first time I heard SOTM I was totally mystified. Had no idea what the hell she was saying.
Which brings me to my favorite thing I heard a deejay say, way back when, before I was a super super super fan - I was 19, I think - Something about how if Stevie and John Fogerty ever did a duet, no one in the world would be able to understand what they said - most incomprehensible rock singers ever.

And that whole "well well like a willow, I can bend"? I had no idea what that said for many, many years. I can't remember what I made up, but never in a million years was it close to the actual lyrics. Of course.
I have a long, long history of not hearing lyrics right. My mom loves to recall those tales.

I used to hear "well, like a wheel, I can't bend!" Like a wheel?

I still occassionaly hear "mounted lovers, watch them go up...and down..." in GDW.

That's pretty good...

I think I heard a "wheel" thing, too, in SB. Or maybe a "widow" thing? I can't remember, but when I found out the real words, I remember feeling pretty stupid, and going "ooooohhh! Duh!" Yeah, duh, as if it should be obvious, when really, most things Stevie says are apropos of nothing. She could be saying anything, at any time. You might as well make **** up, it's not like she's so cohesive and obvious with her lyrics. Lol.

witchy-poo 09-17-2006 02:29 AM

Um, I just had to go look up he lyrics because that's exactly what I have always thought she was saying. If I wasn't chained to my computer "writing my paper", I'd go out in my car and listen again.

I always thought it was "like a widow, I can't bend" Again, doesn't make sense but you have to sing something.

senseformiles 09-17-2006 05:51 PM

I'm wrong... lol

"Somewhere I'm in the back of your mind.."
Should be, somewhere out...

Hmm, I can't think of all the others but I know there are a lot!

jarlic 09-17-2006 06:55 PM
