awww this is very sad~ like her or not, she did love her son, & her world revolved around him~ may he R.I.P.~

oh my god I can't believe it. how horrible. he always seemed like such a great, kind kid. I can't even begin to imagine how she's feeling. their love for each other was always very obvious.

This is terribly, terribly sad news :( Especially just three days after the birth of her daughter and to pass on the day before 9/11. That poor woman. I know she's alittle kooky but no one deserves this :distress:

I smell foul play somehow. They say no drungs were involved - so what else could it be.

In any event, I like Anna Nicole and think she was as good a mother as she could be given her plight in life. May he RIP.

I know, my initial thought was suicide - though I do not know why I thought that. But, then why go to Bermuda to kill yourself.

I am thinking it is drug related.

Poor kid.

My first thought was suicide as well. I don't know why I thought that either. It was probably an accidental drug overdose. :distress:

I'm thinking it was alcohol poisoning. Poor kid, and poor Anna! Like she wasn't burdened with enough problems...

I still just can't believe it. he seemed so level headed and shy on the show, but I guess he's grown up a lot and fast in the past few years. I remember how loving Anna and Daniel were towards each other. it's like they started out together, just as she was becoming famous and going through all her ups and downs, and now he's gone. :distress:

I really hope it was something "natural" - and not something that will torment Anna or that the media can jump on.

Celebrity in hospital tragedy

A joyous occasion turned tragic for American celebrity, Anna Nicole Smith, when her 20-year-old son died yesterday while visiting his mother and newborn sister in their hospital room in The Bahamas.

Daniel Smith, son of the model and actress, reportedly suffered a "massive heart attack" on the maternity ward in Doctors Hospital, sources revealed. Police officials were tight-lipped about the incident and would not confirm nor deny the identity of the deceased.
However, Police Press Liaison Officer, Inspector Walter Evans, did verify that a California resident visiting a patient in The Bahamas, collapsed and died while on the maternity ward of the private hospital.

"This morning a Caucasian male was discovered sometime after 9 a.m.," said Insp. Evans. "The cause of death has not been determined and an autopsy has to be performed. Once we would have [carried out] an autopsy, [this] would confirm the exact cause of death."

The press officer said an official investigation has been launched, as The Royal Bahamas Police Force deems the death an interesting one.

An inside source revealed the patient was indeed reality show star, Anna Nicole Smith, 38, and that she had been on the maternity ward of the hospital since Tuesday. The source added that she gave birth to a baby girl, while officials confirmed that the patient's son flew into the country Saturday and was visiting his mother when he became ill.

According to the source, Daniel collapsed and died. The source added that his mother made an unsuccessful effort to revive her son.

When The Guardian news team arrived at the hospital, security guards were at every door but visitors and patients were only allowed through the main entrance, where they were screened, questioned and directed before entering.

All of the doors leading into the private hospital that would otherwise be open were locked as security guards kept a close watch to see who was leaving and entering. A security guard (who did not want to be named), said the heightened security measures were put in place to make sure the information was not leaked to the public and especially the press.

Anyone wanting to get into the hospital was forced to pass four security guards holding a list of patient names for all the wards.

"As I got off the elevator of the third floor, there were security guards everywhere asking me again and again where I was going and they made sure I went in that direction," said a visitor.

While members of the press were rushed into the conference room, hospital staff hustled the baby out into a waiting van, while Anna Nicole Smith's lawyer, Howard K Stern, rushed to the hospital parking lot at the same time.

The new mother was never seen, as she was reportedly whisked out of a backdoor exit. Photos of the baby wrapped in a pink and white blanket could not be taken, as all cameramen were diverted into the hospital conference room.

Daniel's lifeless body was then taken away in a hearse through a side exit.

Anna Nicole Smith, whose birth name is Vickie Lynn Hogan, is famous for her many Playboy magazine appearances and movie roles, and is also known for her controversial tactics on various award shows. She has also been the subject of headlines on controversial litigation hearings between herself and the son of her late husband, oil billionaire J Howard Marshall, with reference to certain provisions of Mr Marshall's last will.

Anna Nicole gave birth to her only son at age 18.

Hate to say it or assume anything, but 20 year old's don't have heart attacks. It was probably drugs, unless it's found that this kid had a genetic heart defect that went undetected.

That would be my guess. Just think of how many young athletes we hear about just "dropping dead" like Anna Nicole's son... usually due to some undiagnosed heart condition they've had their whole lives. Regardless of the cause, this is a terrible situation and I certainly am thinking of her family at this time.

Poor Anna. She's been through enough. :[

I just hope that the press leaves her alone through all of this. I doubt they will, though. They never do.

This is such sad news. Now that I'm a mother things like this affect me so much more than ever before. I can't and don't want to imagine what she must be going through. My heart goes out to her.

I mean every time her newborn has a birthday, it will be both joyous and hearbreaking - that coupled with 9/11 would be enough to send me over the edge and she didn't have that far to go in the first place.

a friend of mine passed away four years ago after he returned to college at penn state. he had an undiagnosed heart problem as well and passed away from an aneurism. completely possible that this is unrelated to drugs.

she was pretty much off the deep end before -- i can't even imagine. that's absolutely horrible and i can't even begin to imagine what she's going through.
