I just finished...may contain Sex and the City spoilers for those who've not seen it.
So I have finished watching all of Sex and the City, which means that last night was bawl-fest 2006.
Good God. I cried my eyes out over that last episode....SO good - So perfect....and I am officially in love with that damn show. It's a bittersweet thing - I've spent the last three weeks or so watching the series - now I'm done :distress: You get so attached to the characters - and I just found the writing, the character development - all of it to be very good. sigh. Oh and Big...how I love him. Berger? Asshole. Russian...nice concept - but I never liked him for Carrie..... Ok - so just thought I'd let y'all know that I am officially through all the episoded - lets discuss away :p |
that would be weird, to watch the whole thing in 3 weeks. it took me, like, uh ... 7 years? or however long it was on.
i love/hate big. he's SUCH an asshole sometimes, but they really work together, big and carrie. i was happy for miranda, even though it seemed oddly domestic for the miranda we met at the beginning of the series. i mean, a town house in brooklyn? i never would've seen that coming. but i guess it just goes to show how much life can change in 6 or 7 years for all of us. siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh. |
I hated Berger and Carrie together. I loved that actor in Band Of Brothers though. I still want to get the box set so I can see the alternate endings that were shot for the show. I love Baryshnikov. Sexy older man. I'm pissed that Kim Catrall was the lone hold out in the deal to do the movie. I wondered if it was because they were going to have her character die of cancer.
|
Yeah - Berger was a complete jerk - I didn't like his character, and I didn't like him and Carrie. I do love Ron Livingston - although he'll always be the guy from Office Space for me.
I thought it was awesome that Baryshnikov was "the Russian," he was sexy but I had my mind set on Carrie and Big. I previously had a love/hate thing with Big - but that ended during the Carrie/Aidan run - when you start seeing more of Big's character - and well, he's a really really sexy character and I adored the way they ended :D The Miranda thing - I actually liked what they did with her. She definitely grew through the series, from someone who really wouldn't let anyone in to well - taking care of her family - the Steve mom's thing broke my heart...but was so touching. Oh and I cried like a baby when Harry came home with the picture of Charlotte and his baby....omg...so sweet - I LOVED the Charlotte/Harry thing.... Lets see...Samantha and Smith  I enjoyed that too - though I really did like Richard  Smith is a sweetie though. |
Isn't it a great show ? I resisted it for the first three seasons because I thought SJP was so ugly. What a fool I was.
No joke - sobbing wreck at the end. They handled the ending so well though. I will never agree with anyone about Big. I still can't stand him. Whenever he calls Carrie "kid" it just makes my skin crawl. There's this gross power thing in their relationship that gives me the willies. It's so out of a 40's romance. He's such a daddy to her. Loved the Russian, but the relationship was clearly doomed. It made for some great location shooting, and illuminated a lot about Carrie. My favorite is still Aidan. What I was dying to mention earlier about Aidan was why they created the character. MPK, the creator, said they wanted to make the perfect guy for Carrie, just to show how screwed up and absolutely incapable she was of handling the perfect relationship. When he got on his knee in the street and proposed to her, my stomach knotted up so hard in emotion I almost barfed. It was so unbelievably moving. He was so friggin perfect and sweet. And I knew she would screw it up. It was my major relating to Carrie moment. Which is ironic, because I never related to Carrie - if I am anyone it is about a 50/50 split of Miranda and Samantha. It seemed like Charlotte got the short end of the stick in the plot department at the end, but it didn't bother me, as she was always my least favorite character. It is a sign of the brilliant writing though that I nevertheless understood her eventually and saw the humanity in her character. I ended up being fond of her in spite of myself. The whole baby thing she went through at first struck me as shallow and stupid, and ended up being completely heartbreaking to watch. She went on a big journey in that show. It's also interesting to note that they basically wrote much of the show like it was about 4 gay guys. So much of the dialogue and situations were colored by that. I would love to own the box set. Just to go back and watch it all from time to time. Even though I don't even watch TV anymore I will always have a soft spot for this show. TV at it's very best. |

I still think SJP and Cynthia Nixon are quite unattractive - but I managed to get through it to completely fall in love with the show. Ok - actually the Big calling Carrie "kid" thing did bug me....but gawd I love him still  |
How about a killer of an episode - the one where Miranda's mother dies !
OMG. That enormous flower arrangement. And when Samantha finally mouthed "I'm sorry" to Miranda as she is walking away from the podium...Ripped. My. Guts. Out. What a scene. There was more said about those characters and the human condition in that one half hour than most shows can manage to reveal in an entire season. |

The Miranda mother dying episode was a doozy - one of many that had me in tears. |
I seriously feel like I should have taken notes through my viewing - there was so much that made me think, laugh or cry and now I'm overwhelmed and can't think of much of it
Sigh. By the way, I LOVE how they finally "reveal" Big's name at the end..very cute. |
even though they're incredibly edited, i still watch the reruns on tbs.
i purchased the first four seasons for my mother christmas two years ago [we used to watch the show every week]. i feel like a bit of a jerk because i confiscated them and i don't think she's seen them since. whoops. |

I think she is stunning. And how did I not hear she came out ? http://usera.imagecave.com/casparky/...englobes06.jpg close up http://usera.imagecave.com/casparky/cnixon.jpg |

And I couldn't tell you his name with a gun to my head. |
^^
You didn't know she came out? I remember when it was revealed that Cynthia Nixon had been in a long-time relationship with a woman - I thought for sure that would be the end of my sister loving that show - but she made it through that, the abortion episode and Charlotte giving up Christ...guess the show is even more powerful that "morals" Anyway - I do like CN better with the longer hair - I just still don't find her attractive - SJP sort of grew on me, but at best I find her cute...definitely not a knock-out. Kristen Davis on the other hand? I find her so beautiful - and Kim Catrall to me has always just oozed sex - so that role was perfect for her. Big's name...it feels wrong to just type it out here.... |

It's John. :) Hm, that's funny, I find SJP really beautiful in a totally unconventional sort of way. I like unusual beauties. That being said, I think Cynthia Nixon looks like a chicken. |
I hate that Sex and the City and Six Feet Under are no longer on. Two great shows in their own way and they both leave a huge void.
That pic of CN is a great one. I always identified with her though because she was the plain Jane next to the others. Did you catch her partner on the Tony broadcast? THAT was one butch woman! I still remember SJP from Square Pegs so I think she looks incredible now. Terry |

Kim is a sultry supernova, to be sure. I love how Richard was basically the male version of her. And how it drove her up a wall. That was a big turning point for her character. Takes all kinds. Obviously the casting was genius. There is something for all tastes. |

Well, when you put Cynthia Nixon next to her partner she looks like the most f**king beautiful woman in the world....
http://www.broadway.com/site_images/524737.jpg yeah, I'm going to hell. What the **** is that!?! She better have a damn good personality. ---- I didn't even notice and KD botox  I'll have to go back and check it out. The Richard thing was a definte turning point for Samantha...and despite his canoodling I really liked him...until the Hamptons house episode - with the bimbos who won't go away....ugh. |

She looks like Harvey Fierstein in a Howdy Doody wig. ---- Quote:
At a certain point you will notice that KD's face no longer moves from the eyebrows up and her face tends to get into these funny expressions of confusion. They seem absolutely unintentional. I liked the Richard story. And I liked him. What fascinated me about all of these characters is how they got what they thought they wanted and needed and then found out they didn't know what the hell they needed at all. That is interesting to watch - the aftermath of realizing that. It is very much like real life. These characters struggled, like all of us do. |

Very true indeed - one of the brilliant aspects of the writing on that show. Now - totally unrelated to anything - but I'm way tired and well a couple of things I noticed... Richard Mrs. Adams (the pot-head, comic book shop guy Carrie date's mom) Matthew McCaunaghye or however the hell it's spelled..... All three were in Boys on the Side. The blond woman Carrie meets in a restaurant with the Russian - she was in Live Nude Girls with Kim Catrall. Ok - just a few random things I noticed and thought were of note...why? I don't really know. -------------- I have the most overwhelming urge to go to New York City and to wear fabulous shoes. But for now I'll have to settle for going to bed.... |

Speaking of eating, how great was that episode where Miranda throws the cake in the trash and later fishes it out and attacks it with a fork ? |

And because of what I'm going through now - I LOVED the Miranda/ Weight Watchers episode... Grrr..I wanted a Gray's Papaya so bad last time I was in New York - but we never made it :distress: Next time. Next time. |

D - did you buy the pink box set collection thing? just wondering what the price of that is nowadays.

My sister lent me seasons 1-4, I rented season 5 and 6. I really lucked out too - I got season 6 for free because the lady at the Hollywood video took 900 years...:D But the series in the pink box - or just individual seasons is most definitely at the top of my Christmas list now! |
