Plans?

So what is everyone doing for the long Labor Day Weekend?

I? Am working on Monday - so no long weekend for me. It really puts a damper on any out of town plans - so I'm staying close to home and having a Sex and the City Marathon.

That show=my new obsession.

So how about y'all?

strandinthewind 09-01-2006 03:00 PM

None really.

I am hanging out this evening with a friend of mine who is coming in town for the weekend. We may go to a friend's lake house, but that remains to be seen.

Miss Vicky 09-01-2006 03:02 PM

My weekend plan:

-housework. The place is a dump. I need to do a helluva lot of cleaning this weekend.

-watching my new DVDs. I just got House Season 2, the complete series of The Oblongs, and a show called Jack of All Trades starring Bruce Campbell

-preparing for next weekend. I'm flying out to Nashville on Friday to catch another Walter Egan show. I won't have time to pack during the week, so I'll have to do it this weekend. I also need to go buy a couple of new outfits to wear.

DrummerDeanna 09-01-2006 03:03 PM

^^

 Jack of all trades!! Is that the show with Autolocus? Is that his name? Isn't that a spin-off of his character on Xena? I love me some Bruce Campbell!!!

And you reminded me - I'm also doing a lot of cleaning this weekend..my place is a mess.

macfanken 09-01-2006 03:09 PM

I have 5 (!) days off... woohoo! I have a friend coming in from out of town, we're going to Bumbershoot, which is the big, annual arts and music festival here in Seattle. Blondie will be there plus lots of other groups.

http://bumbershoot.com/

My friend has never been here so we'll also do some tourist type stuff. The weather is going to be perfect... sunny and 80 degrees all weekend. Woohoo!

I haven't the slightest idea. It was a very much belated birthday gift (my B-day was in May) from a friend of mine and I hadn't seen or heard of it before.

I love me some Bruce Campbell, too. Have you ever seen Bubba Ho-Tep?

Ah - well I seem to recall watching a few eps of that show simply because of my love of all things Xena-related a few years back :p

I've not seen a lot of his stuff though :( so no - I've never even heard of Bubba Ho-Tep.

DrummerDeanna 09-01-2006 03:16 PM

AND I'm completely mistaken - Jack of All Trades is NOT a Xena spin-off - it's a different character completely....

So now I'm left to wonder what the hell it was I saw him in as the character from Xena.....

BTFLCHLD 09-01-2006 03:17 PM

As soon as the sun rises tomorrow I am getting the F out of town. :]

I have plans to drive the coast...find some remote cliff, forge a trail...let the ocean take me away...and perhaps bury myself in sand...I also see myself whimpering "what's the world coming to?"

I need this more than ever.

skcin 09-01-2006 03:19 PM

Ordinarily, we have a big party at my house every year, but this year hubby's work schedule is screwing that up. We're having it next weekend instead.

The remnants of Ernesto are supposed to dump all kinds of rain on us tomorrow, so I'm glad I picked up some OT. Taking vital signs for $25 an hour isn't too shabby. :D Nothing Sun or Mon right now, and the weather's not going to be all that great. I'm telling myself it's a good opportunity to clean & organize my house, but we'll see if anything actually gets done. I may just watch TV & drink a lot. :wavey:

HomerMcvie 09-01-2006 03:22 PM

My band is playing the next two nights, then Sunday, I'm going to my aunt's house on the lake. Then Monday, I'm doing sound for a religious festival...

I haven't seen a lot of his stuff either. But I LOVE Bubba Ho-Tep. It's a must watch.

Bruce Campbell stars as an aging Elvis impersonator who believes that he really is Elvis. (According to him, he grew tired of fame and switched places with an impersonator many years ago and that it was really the impersonator that died and not the real Elvis) who ends up in a retirement home. He befriends a wheelchair-bound black man (played by the late Ossie Davis) who believes that he is John F. Kennedy (he claims "They dyed me this color!") and together they discover that there is an ancient Egyptian mummy in cowboy duds that has been killing off the elderly residents by sucking their souls literally out of their asses. Together they go to battle against "Bubba Ho-Tep" and fight to save their home and their souls.

So many people have told me how wonderful the show is - I had to see it for myself. I'm mid-season 3 right now. I'm bummed though, I only borrowed up to season 4

I just saw the episode where Charlotte meets Trey..SOO cute. And I've got a crush on Steve lol...Big, though a charming character, doesn't really do it for me  Aidan on the other hand...*drools*

No big plans. I avoid these holiday weekends in general. It's total amateur hour re: vacations and trips. Like drinking on New Year's and St. Patrick's Day.
It is Helter Swelter in LA so I am mostly gonna be at the gym or in the pool.

I hear ya - I don't go to many things over holiday weekends either - the crowds bother me. And the big drinking holidays...drunk crowds bother me

amber 09-01-2006 04:03 PM

I was going to Chico to see my boyfriend and go camping, so I could get a last smidge of hot weather summer swimmyness in. But I think we broke up. Ironically, he wanted to come here to get away from Chico and the heat there, whereas I wanted to get away from the coldness and citiness here.

So then, I was going to visit his sister, my best friend, who lives a block away from him. Which I usually did anyway on this holiday before I was dating guy. We were going to go swimming, drink, and do homework. But then i just decided to keep my money and stay home (if I paid to go up there, I wouldn't really have any money left).

I have a lot of incomprehensible statistics homework, some other homework, and some important paperwork. Plus, my friend is coming here next weekend anyways. I'm kinda sad I don't get to be hot and go swimming, instead I'll be chilly and may or may not shower - but overall I'm pleased with the decision. Maybe I can also get some cleaning done, I only have a month to do so before Paula comes here. There's also some kind of big music festival thingy in Oakland, maybe I'll head down to that?

Steve is such a sweet adorable dork. I always hated Big. Always. And still do.
Aidan....mmmmm. My favorite. After you see all of them, I would love to hear what you say. I heard an interview with MPK, the creator, where he explained the whole psychology of why they created that character and it was really interesting. But I can't say now, because you haven't seen all the episodes.

LOL - I've seen a few here and there - so I know about how Charlotte and Trey end up - I know MIranda has a baby - but the details are sketchy because I've only seen 1 or 2 eps.

I'm seriously in love though - and actually I had a crush on Skipper too..so I've adopted Miranda as my favorite.

Yeah - I'm very interested to see how all the Big stuff plays out - ooh I can't wait!!

Like Sparky said, wait until you see ALL of the Aidan episodes. I love the last two seasons.

goldustsongbird 09-01-2006 04:18 PM

Nothing, as far as I know. Oh, well it won't be much of a departure from what I did all summer. I'll probably end up spending time on here, and playing video games.

Alas, its visitation weekend, I have to transport my son back and forth to Chico both days so he can visit his father. If anyone local goes, please tell me how it went ok?

WelshWitchPMD 09-01-2006 05:30 PM

I wanted to go up to Boston on either Saturday or Sunday but this weekend looks as if it will be a wash out so I guess that I am staying home. I can't be too upset because I did have great weather last Saturday for the lighthouse cruise that I went on. Maybe I will post some photos later. I really want to try to get to Block Island before September ends.

Labor Day is a made-up American holiday - yet another excuse to get people out of work for a day.

There is a better definition of what it is.

Ooh that sounds tempting, but I must resist. The Renaissance Faire in Hollister starts next weekend so I must save my funds for that.

On a side note, another belated birthday present was a new dagger, which makes 3 blades for my costume. My belt is going to weigh a ton this year.

Ah, girlie, what are you going to do when Redding does IT'S festival/faire? I'd be happy to have you crash here and we could go together  I think its around Beltaine tho so you're ok. Why oh WHY arent there any good Celtic faires for Halloween? (my personal Fave!) although, Chico is the happenin place come Halloween, I must say.......

out of curiosity, what is your "costume"?? we can take this to PM if its private....

I go as a pirate (and started doing that long before the days of Jack Sparrow) and I actually have two costumes. One is a dress, which I usually wear only on Halloween because it has to be dry cleaned and the Faire is just too dusty, the other is a vest/pants outfit. I also have a big hat with lots of feathers, two whips and some leather restraints (thus expalaining the "renaissance bondage" part of my little personal ad), and various other accessories. I really need to get me a cutlass and an authentic looking Jolly Roger, though.

well I guess you can ignore the PM now that you've answered in public...(edit: OOPS, too late!!!)

the Redding Festival is in May (Beltaine) Remember Jethro Tull (For the May Day is the Great Day sung along the old straight track)

so yer a Pirate! COOL! dont know where you're going to get a cutlass aside from ebay tho........What is a Jolly Roger? The skull and crossbones flag?

anywhoo, we can share addys so you can crash here for more northerly fun.
I'd enjoy that, and I think you would too.

jannieC 09-01-2006 06:36 PM

We just paid over $3k in bills (TODAY! ) to get us through the next few months (grad school loan money just came in...today! lol). So even though the leftover money is supposed to be allocated for school things and survival-ey type things, I think I am going to go thrift store shopping tomorrow and spend like, $100. I could get four wardrobes with that!

I have a TON of schoolwork to do this week-end. I have four papers and one project to work on, so after my trip to the thrift store and a quick clean of the house, I am going to hole up at my desk and do some work! I wish there was a cool Rennaisance Faire type thing going on here!

Oh wait, one of my new school friends has horses and I may take my step-son there on Sunday and ride. We've had bad weather (North Carolina) so it may be too wet to go horseback riding, but we'll see!

Cool, that means its no where near my other annual events so I shouldn't be strapped for cash.

Yes, a jolly roger is a pirate's flag, though not all have the skull and crossed bones or crossed swords (like the one in Pirates of the Carribean). Actually, every pirate had a different design on his flag. Blackbeard, probably the most famous (or is that infamous?) of pirates, had a jolly roger that looked like this:

Jolly Roger was also a pet rat I used to have.

Saturday is a half day for me but at 12 noon I will be free!!! Sunday and Monday off.....yippeeeee!!! I will be over my friend Jodi's for a nice cookout either Saturday or Sunday depending on our weather here.
Other things I will be doing...I am reading a suspense novel called Have You Seen Her? so I will read more, definitely have my stereo on....playing some cool tunes, and of course, dreaded house work, gasp! But at least I will be able to relax!

How is it my deal that I've got to buy a gift, go out of town, rent a hotel room, all to attend a wedding of someone I'm not particularly close with and there's a 50%+++ chance it won't work in the end anyway? Why is this my problem? Gah!!

my friend's coming to stay the weekend - and i actually got labour day OFF this year... we have massages booked for sunday afternoon... and tickets to see cat power monday night! in between, likely lots of chilling, drinking of wine, and eating.
