David LaChapelle's Artists & Prostitutes

Did anyone have the courage to buy this book? I say courage because the price tag is $1700, reported to be one of those most expensive books ever made! Anyway, Stevie's 1993 photo session with him is supposed to be included in this compilation of his work, 698 friggin pages worth! There are only 2500 copies of this book in the world. I was at Borders last night where they had a display in the window. Apparently, there's only one copy of this book for sale in San Francisco.

SuzeQuze 08-24-2006 12:06 PM

What an insane price.

SortaSavageLike 08-24-2006 12:16 PM

Maybe we can get one of those 2,500 insane people who bought the book to scan those pictures for us.

Damn, and I though $200 was a lot of money for that "Kubrick Archives" book.

One of the pictures is posted at his official website (under Portraits. The Dance cover is there, as well). But it would be nice to see the actual portrait in print. BTW, the book is 25 inches tall!

UnwindedDreams 08-24-2006 12:49 PM

Asking that price...he should be beaten over the head with the book:lol:

to be a photographer, etc. the pictures on his site look like ****. or maybe it's just my monitor, but the quality is crap.

but he has done some awesome work with some awesome artists.

I LOVE that pic of Stevie. I think it smacks of some 20's circus fortune teller in repose.

I love the one of these with the umbrella, where she's standing? Crazy.

Livia 08-24-2006 02:49 PM

Perez Hilton is reporting that the Courtney Love/Kurt Cobain pic is the cover.

MacMan 08-24-2006 04:06 PM

There is a book coming soon with Cortney Love and Kurt on the cover. That's the 3rd book in a trilogy he's putting out. The big book Daniel is talking about is a book that encompasses his whole career - so it likely includes all the photos and what not from the 3 smaller books, 2 of which have been published in '96 and '99.

I was looking around to see if those Stevie photos and FM were published in either of these, but found nothing. The only thing I found was that the FM Dance cover was shot in June, 1997 and the one pic where Stevie is lying down in the pillows was shot in November, 1993.

And you know that other photo of her with the umbrella? Is she standing on a pilar of some sort with one leg? It looks like it to me but I can't figure it out, it's like she's floating, but actually standing on something.

Sorry to make this about Madonna, but this guy apparently also did these pictures of her, which are some of my favorites ever.

sorta off the topic but I missed the whole "la" in there and was thinking "david chapelle" and wondernig...."why is he doing photo sessions of stevie in 93?" ok. nevermind.

and $1700 is F*CKING ridiculous.

gldstwmn 08-24-2006 08:11 PM

There is a sampler of it on eBay but that one contains no Stevie. The full book is currently up to $1750. If I had the cash to burn, I'd buy it. The packaging is nice and the photos that I've seen are fab. It's a nice piece for someone's collection.

Here's a really big version. With this you really can see that she is balancing on that thing. When the pic is small it almost looks like a reflection.

Yeah, that's the one I love so much. It's so different from other Stevie photos, and so evocative. Of what? You know, cool stuff. I think it's incredible. Big framed poster in your house worthy. Excellent vision for Stevie in this one. So unusual, so perfect, so otherworldly, so force of nature.
Like Stevie!

Gypsy-Rhiannon 08-25-2006 03:10 AM

I love the picture of Liza Minelli he has on the portraits page. And the one of Faye Dunaway

He's an American comedian that got paid a great deal of money to do a series on Comedy Central and had some kind of meltdown and couldn't finish it. He's a funny guy.

michelle2677 08-25-2006 12:20 PM

He was also in Blue streak, You've got mail, Half Baked and Con Air. :) Did the "Charlie Murphy True hollywood story" where he played Rick James.

(for david/wiznicks) what did the 5 fingers say to the face?? SLAP!!!
