Sh*tty A** weekend
in conjunction with the "I feel like poo" thread, this was my weekend. UGH.
First it started off last thursday. I was driving across town and under a parked car I saw something that caught my attention. I couldn't quite figure out what it was. So I turned around and headed back. Then along the curb I saw a baby squirrel. He appeared to have fallen out of a tree because he was staggering a little bit. I wasnt' sure if this was due to a fall, or because he was so young. So I gathered him up, called the vet to find out what to do. I took him home, made him confy and headed to the store to get milk and a syringe to feed him. On my way back I got pulled over. Yes, I did explain to the officer what was going on. He was a little surprised  but said he was ordered to give everyone tickets because it was a speed trap, so he would reduce my speed and make it so I don't have to go to court. So off I went to care for my new friend "curby". That night he did fine, but by the next morning, he mostly slept and wouldnt' eat. Then that afternoon he died. I only had the little guy for 24 hours but I cried like he was my best friend!! Curby: http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...0818061211.jpg After that the weekend was basically shot. I have been friends with this guy for 8 years and we got in this huge fight and are no longer friends. We were on a house boat and he was yelling at me. I went to leave-he grabbed the door and said, "no, if you want to leave...there you go" and pointed to the river. I'm scared of water and cant' swim...so that was that. Sunday came-My husband ran over my cell phone (yeah....refer to the "bad storm" thread-I just got a new one literally a month ago because I dropped it in the toilet:lol: ) and then I hit a bird. I decided to go home and go back to bed and not put anyone within a 20 feet radius of me in danger of lightening striking them. so yeah-that was my weekend. On a good note-one of my best friends had her baby on friday. that was about the ONLY good thing that happened!! :D http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...0818061242.jpg |
Good God. When it rains it pours :distress:
That is so wonderful that you tried to save that squirrell - seriously, there aren't many people who would do that. Sorry he didn't make it, but I'm just so touched and amazed that you tried! The friend thing..that sounds pretty harsh - have you guys fought before? Do you think you'll get through it and be friends again? 8 years is a long time. |
Our whole relationship is a big fight. But it's never gone that far. He has never tried to make me afraid of him. Thing is-he KNOWS I can't swim, and am terrified of water. So he said that basically like.."you're not leaving...or hit the road...or water. I think that's pretty ****ty to tell someone to jump in the river and swim back if they want to leave. I don't think I'll get over that. There were a lot of other things said-I was in tears. His birthday was yesterday. We'll see how it goes. I sent a long email apologizing for my part, but he took it way too far and I want to end the friendship, but hopefully we could do it amicably. Sorry you're having a bad time as well. It sucks, doesn't it.

I'm sorry about your ****ty weekend, and the squirrel's too.
Cash just came from his chemo, and there was a lady there, who was putting her 15yo Lab down. He was so stiff, that he could barely walk. She knew it was time to put him down. I still felt so sorry for her. She went in the back with him, and came out about 20 minutes later, crying. She came over, and I held her hand for a couple of minutes, while we both cried for him.:o |

Very touching story on curby. I am sorry he didn't make it. I think it is very cool you tried. I have a similar story to share: I could here a faint meow-like cry off my balcony. When I went to locate the sound, I found a kitten as small as a large egg. When I gently picked the kitten up, I found that his ambilical cord was growing into the ground. Quite troubling, and actually still freaks me out a little. I wiggled loose, and briskly took him inside. I did everything to save that precious baby...tore up that the little life was as it was. So small I didn't know if it was a boy or girl, but he/she survived the night and that is all. I buried him/her proper. I will never forget that day years ago...nor that precious baby.
 for the little babies hurting with hope that an angel comes their way. ((((((michelle)))))) |
So sad :(
I have never seen a squirrel in real life before - they have always interested me. Do they just wander around? |

I had company staying with me all last week, so I forgot to post that there was some good news. We did his third chemo(of this new drug), and took X-rays, last Wed. From all X-ray appearances, the cancer in his lungs has been reduced!!!:blob2: It was definitely smaller in the pics! :blob2: The vet was amazed. I spoke with U of IL last evening, and the oncologist was amazed, too! Today was his fourth treatment with this drug. We'll go to bi-weekly now, and do X-rays in four more weeks. I know I'm only buying him some more time, but as long as it's quality time, I don't mind eating baloney! |
Aaaw, poor little Curby. And that sucks about your friend, so sorry!
Homer, I'm glad Cash is doing better! When my dearly, departed kitty was at the vet a couple years ago for his UTI and I went to visit, a guy had brought in his dog that had been hit by a car. I had to wait a long time for my visit with Cagie, I could hear them working on the dog and this poor man just sobbing when his dog didn't make it. I felt so bad for him, I saw him carry the dog inside in his own arms, and the drops of blood on the sidewalk and around his SUV. He had to walk past me to leave and I simply touched his arm and told him I was so sorry. Last night, I moved my love seat and one of Cagie's squishy ball toys rolled out from underneath. I'm PMS-ing now, and I just totally lost it. I had that toy almost as long as I had Cagie, he loved that thing, I thought it was gone forever. I put it in the little velvet bag w/ his other stuff and photos I've kept of him. |

:blob1: That is amazing!!! I'm so happy - a reduction is better than nothing, and definitely better than an adverse reaction!! I'm so happy for Cash!!! This thread makes me wanna go home and hug my moo.... |

"Curby" - I'm so sorry about your friend. Hopefully you two will work it out. Oh, but I think he's mean for tellling you to "swim for it". Good luck. Geez, I should've gone with my first instinct and not read this whole thread. Saddest thread ever. Except for the news about Cash. |
Ya aint seen nuthin'...

I do have Rufus' older littermate/sister Missy, who is perfectly healthy and spaded (She is a black calico, possible siamese mix). She was the only cat to survive from her family (Her mother "Girl" died after giving birth, and two of the kittens were stillborn :( ) Quote:

Squirrels are pretty smart and I'm sure some people do keep them as pets. There was the video around awhile ago, of a water-skiing squirrel.

sorry to hear that the **** is spreading like wildfire.
here's something to cheer you up: I was working today on pulling some case law to cite in a brief and one of the one's I ended up using is Kumho vs. Carmichael. get it? |

BTFLCHLD-that is so sad about the kitten:( I swear I think these animals come out of the woodwork when Im around. A brighter note on one I DID save. (also there is a lesson to be learned in this one. NEVER talk about someone when there is a possibility your cell phone has dialed their number:laugh: ) I was going to pick a friend up and I saw a full blooded collie puppy walking down the road about 2 days after Christmas. I went to try to get it in my car (Because that's what I DO. I've saved about 8 this year. ) and he wouldn't come. I called my husband and of course he was like.."leave it alone, it's probably just on it's way home." It's not on it's way home. It's a puppy. It doesnt' even know where it's home IS!! so I called my friend. I pulled over to watch it. I couldnt' get it in the car, but I couldnt just leave either. Seconds later a jeep hits it and leaves. (ASSHOLE!!) and the dog takes off. I call my friend frantic. She says to go get the dog and she'll find me. I drive about a block away and the dog is sitting in the road, badly injured and swaying back and forth. :distress: I could see the bone on one of his legs. I hear you are never supposed to mess with dogs when they have been injured but I didnt' care. The dog followed me straight to my car and jumped in. Amazing. My friend was in the car and I guess in a panic I accidentally called my husband. I said.."I KNOW it's not COMPLETELY mark's fault...but I'm never listening to him again!!! He told me to leave and the dog got hit!!!" Next thing we knew-my friend's cell phone rang and it was Mark. He said."will you tell my wife the next time she wants to talk about me, make sure I'm not on the phone..." ooooooopppsss..... teehee...anyway.. I took it to the humane society to try to get immediate help. (it was friday around 4:30...of course) and they took one look at the dog and said they couldn't guarantee they wouldnt' put it to sleep before the end of the night because of infection. Oh HELL no!!! so I took it to my vet. My friend and I put a $100 deposit down, left the dog there and then went door to door looking for it's owner. Did I mention it's 2 days after Christmas? F*CKING COLD!! anyway-we find the owner, they reimburse us the $$$ and the dog kept it's leg. Oh..I did have to sell the car though. Too much blood. eck. About the question on the squirrel-When I called the vet, the receptionist told me she had a pet squirrel at one time, so. Homer-Glad Cash is doing better!! I update my husband on him everytime we get news, so we are both glad to hear this!! on a side note-did anyone know you are only allowed 10 smileys?? ha ha.. |

^^awwwww...:xoxo: :xoxo: I really appreciate you saying that. My husband doesn't think so. :distress: He makes me so mad. I basically just told him, "the day I stop doing this, and caring, is the day your wife is no longer your wife." If I ever stopped doing this because I didn't care or became desensitized....I don't know what I'd do. When we built our new building for work, before they closed the crawl space, a mother abandoned her kittens and we each got one. Mine was the only one that lived. SO I thought I'd have the same ending with curby, but it didnt' work out. Another time I was driving home and saw a baby deer..(fawn?? heck I don't know) on the side of the road. I called my husband and he said.."IF I COME HOME...AND WE HAVE A BABY DEER IN OUR BED...I"M GOING TO BE TICKED!!" ha ha..I didn't get it because I figured it's mother was not too far away, but my whole family laughs about that story because they KNOW how I am!!!:o

IIIII don't know. Before we got max :
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...d%20max/22.jpg I wanted to rescue a dog. My husband wouldn't have it. actually I wanted the little three legged dog at the vet that had been hit and then dropped off...but he wouldn't let me :(....I have a soft spot for 3 legged dogs. but I am grateful for my little crazy angel in fur. But he definately has mental problems. |

^^:D Yeah I liked it too.
Hubby didnt'. I come up with new nicknames for them all the time. Maxwell, pooper..(take a guess why he has THAT name  ) maxer moo. He has one brown eye and one that is partially blue-we call it his "crazy eye" Seriously...the dog is totally F*CKED up. The other one is pretty mellow though so there is a balance! |
Michelle I am so sorry to read about your weekend... its so sad when you try and save a life and you cant... about a year ago I was woken at 4 in the morning by my dog and cat having a kerfuffel in the hallway, my dog came up to the side of my bed and sniffed me... I turned the lamp on and looked down and he had a little baby bird in him mouth... he placed it gently on his bed and was looking up at me as if to say "well what are you going to do?" (I think he had taken it off my cat... who is a little ferral.. we adopted him from a friend who found him as a kitten) anyway I tried hard to save the little bird and he survived the night and the next day but died the following night in my hands whilst I was feeding him... I was devastated, cried my heart out... we have a spare birdcage and my man calls it the cage of death:distress: as only one bird out of about 5 i have tried to save has ever survived to be released back into the wild...Its so hard, but you cant not try!!! The fact that you tried to save the little squirrel is a credit to you as a human being... alot of people wouldnt even bother...
On the subject of Cash, I am so glad that he has had some improvement... he is in my thoughts often... and I think it was beautiful of you Homermcvie to sit with that lady in her time of grief... Oh and Michelle, your friends baby is beautiful... hope your week gets better!!! |
Wow, you are an animal good samaritan! it is great that you are looking out for the animals. I am so sorry that the little squirrel didn't make it, but it sounds like you have had some successes too.
I had a young possum get injured by a large possum in my driveway the other night, and I had quite a dilemma. I heard the fight at aobut 3 in the morning, and I found the big possum pinning the other one in his teeth. I scared him off, and the little one played, you know, possum. I went inside to try to find someting to put him in, and the big one came back, and attacked again. I chased him off, and then felt like I had to stand guard. The little one was tired, and his head kept sinking, and I felt like standing near him was probably as stressful to him as the threat of the big possum. It was so heartbreaking, and I have encountered injured possums before, and the have super nasty teeth, and will really attack, so I was scared to pick him up. I called the humane society, but they wouldn't do anything, and told me to put a box over him, if I wanted to keep him warm. I considered trying to get him to a vet, but I just didn't know how I would do it. I realized that if they had simply fought in the field next door, or down by the river, away from our houses, nobody would know, and I am sure there are territorial skirmishes between possums all the time, so it would likely happen again. I felt really helpless. I finally went to bed, and the next morning, he had left the box. At least I didn't see any more blood, so maybe he made it. |
Thanks to ALL for the good thoughts on Cash. I really appreciate it.
I feel VERY lucky, to have the gift of more time with him. He's my Bubba! |
I have huge respect for people who go miles out of their way to do right by animals :xoxo: I always do my best as well, but often this extends to spiders, moths, flies etc as well, then people just think I'm not right in the head :( The other morning I heard a fly buzzing somewhere and I couldn't tell where, till I found it stuck inside a glass I'd been drinking out of the night before. He'd got his wings stuck to some sticky stuff and couldn't get out. I fished him out and put him by the window but he couldn't fly 'cos his wings were stuck together. So I poured a little pool of water next to him, and he dipped his feet in it, washed his wings, sat there for a bit and flew off! Made my day :p
Also, a while back I was stuck in a line of cars, and I got out to look up the road to see what was going on, and I saw a truck parked across the road. I figured it was stuck or something so I went to check it out, and it turned out the driver had deliberately parked his truck across the road because there was an injured rabbit right in the path of the traffic, and this great ape of a guy had stopped all the cars so he could get out and help it... Sensitive souls come in all shapes and sizes! |
ragandbone-oh! I hope the little opposum made it. That is so sad. It is definately hard when you are so helpless and don't know what to do .
Somedays I want to take a part-time job at a vet or something just so I have the skill to save all these animals I pick up. Or at least have the good sense to leave a rabid dog alone.  sammigold-I have tried to save birds also. They almost never make it for some reason. I seriously think they are the hardest ones to save :( bretonbanquet-oh, I don't discriminate either. Well, except snakes. But spiders don't bother me. I"ve acutally pulled over on the shoulder of a highway because a grasshopper was on my windshield and couldnt get off because I was going so fast. did I mention I'm also crazy?? and that rabbit story was so touching. Sounds SO like something I would do-except I don't have a semi to stop traffic. But I WOULD!! ha ha :) |
^^^
Well that makes me crazy too  I have also stopped to rescue wind-blown insects from my windscreen - I'm just pleased to know I'm not the only one! And what's wrong with snakes? They're lovely too... snakes can be your friends, you know  |
