Highway Companion

Is anybody else loving it as much as I am????

Lord oh lord let me win those tickets... I need me some live Petty this fall.

Here's the vid for the first single "Saving Grace":

DrummerDeanna 07-28-2006 02:09 PM

I have yet to get this album- but it's on my list - especially after hearing Petty on Fresh Air last night :blob1:

MacMan 07-28-2006 02:34 PM

Not a bad album...

go to http://www.rehearsals.com/index.jsp where you can watch them perform "Saving Grace" in rehearsals for this tour. Sounds and looks great.

Click on Tom Petty then watch a brief version - then it will ask if you want to watch the full version.

There's actually a performance clip by the Mick Fleetwood Band under exclusive performances with Billy Burnette and Rick Vito. I haven't seen this before!!

I really, really like the album. I'm v. glad I bought it. I can't get over the similarities between "Down South" and the song "I Had a Love" by Blue Angel (Cyndi Lauper's band before she went solo).

Here's the track for anyone interested in the comparison:

I've had "Saving Grace" playing in my head the last few days. It's my current MySpace profile song (if MySpace will ever get over their ****ing connection problems!).

I was just trying to edit my profile to put it as my song, too, or at least put the video in my profile, but I can't seem to log in. It was working fine just a couple of minutes ago.

Pure brilliance. I'm loving every second of it. Add this to my list of albums that I can listen to all the way through and not have the urge to skip anything...

Oh wait. I guess it was already on there since the first item on my list was "ANY Tom Petty album." :D

So its better than "Last DJ" then? I have yet to even hear the single off the album - is it similar to any of Petty/Heartbreakers previous albums?

I don't know that it's "better." Songs like The Last DJ's "Joe" are pretty damn hard to beat. It's definitely got a harder sound to it than the last Petty solo effort (1994's Wildflowers) but not as hard as DJ. I dunno... all Petty albums sound pretty similar in many ways to all other Petty albums. He doesn't really change his sound - with the exception of 1987's "Let Me Up (I've Had Enough)." He kind of adheres to the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" frame of mind.

Did you play the video I posted? So far "Saving Grace" is my favorite track.

Im at work at the moment, and there are no speakers - so no point in playing the video :(

What about "Southern Accents" - that album was very un-petty  My favourite album though is "Full Moon Fever" - a classic :D

The only songs that are, IMO, un-Petty on Southern Accents are "Make It Better (Forget About Me)" and "It Ain't Nothin' to Me," with their disco-esque sound. Other than that, it seems pretty typical to me.

Indeed, Full Moon Fever will always rank high on my list, since it's the first album I ever owned by any artist.

xxxmx 07-28-2006 04:58 PM

Saving Grace is one of my current favorite songs - been listening on repeat as i am apt to do. i am waiting for the first paycheck of the year (school teacher) to buy the album. it will no doubt be great. thanks for posting the vid, vicky!

I have it on repeat at the moment as well.

I think this disc is going to be my new "rut" - since I tend to listen to the same cd over and over again for weeks at a time.

I also picked up the new Live (as in the band Live) album Songs from Black Mountain, but I'm not crazy about it. As much as I want to love it, I'm coming to accept the fact that they've basically become a Christian Rock band and that's just not my thing. :distress:

Really? I owned many albums on tape - I can't remember what the first was though, but the first album I ever got on CD was Republica's self titled - 'Ready to Go' was such a cool song

The first albums I ever owned on CD were Nirvana: Nevermind and The Beavis and Butthead Experience. :o

I was in junior high and boy did I have crappy (there's that word again) taste in music!

Full Moon Fever was bought for me by my mother as a bribe to behave while we were shopping in the mall. I was eight years old at the time.

From Sisqo to Stevie...

I'm not sure which one is worse.

Edit: Wait, Sisqo's the one who did 'The Thong Song,' right?

Um... yeah. Still not sure.

$9.99 is a nice price but I'm not in much of a Amazon mood since I am still awaiting a 2 disc set I ordered June 19 through Amazon.com

Try living in New Zealand - standard delivery time from amazon for a CD is 4 weeks :distress:

I ordered a CD from amazon on April 12th and finally canceled the order about a week and a half ago. They can be very frustrating.

Really? I've never had any problems with them. I always get my orders when I expect to, and the few times I've received damaged items, they've been very good about replacing them promptly.

The one time that I didn't receive an order, I notified them and they sent a new one right away.

Yeah. It's the only bad experience I've ever had with amazon, though, in 8 years. It's a really hard album to get ahold of, apparently. I finally found it in Barnes & Noble last night.

Dude, don't judge her by True Colours! That's really not her best album... It's pretty mediocre. Even I can admit that. lol. Listening to HFOS won't make you hate her, trust me, if anything it'll make you love her. ;)

iknorite. I can't stand What's Goin' On. The video is... okay. I mean, it's pure 1987, and she looks great in it, but the song is something I can only listen to once every few years. And One Track Mind is shiz.

mmmmmmmmmmm, she DOES look totaly delicious in the video. I'm glad I'm not alone in my lack of What's Goin' On love. but yeah, she looks amazing in the video ...
