Camping pics

Most of you know (since I never shut the hell up about it) that I go camping every year to the same place, with the same friends, in the same cabins. It's on the Allegany Reservoir/Kinzua Dam in NY near the PA border, run by the Seneca Nation of Indians. Very cool place. Have been going there for the past 11 or 12 years. This is the first time that one of the days was a total washout. :distress:

We got there Friday around 3, blazing hot & hellish humidity. Ick. Saturday, it starts to rain by 8am & doesn't stop until 10pm. What a waste. Played cards & board games & drank all day. Sunday (when half of the group had to go home, btw) was sunny & gorgeous & comfortable. We left Monday at noon, yet another beautiful day.

Nothing too exciting happened this year, we didn't even go hiking or anything, Sat was such a disappointment that Sun we just wanted to sit there & bask in the sun & play lawn games. My sister in law brought an air horn (cuz she's an asshole) so that was amusing at times. Here's some pics:

Here are our cabins:

Nobody will get this except Hawkeye, maybe Goldie. There's a fugitive who escaped jail here with only a few days left in his sentence. They've been looking for him ever since, and he's become a cult hero/joke/whatever. I had to take a pic of this sign:

GREAT pics!!!!!!

Also, I love a coozie.

I have a lime green one with flourescent pink lettering that says

If you're rich I'm single"

MacMan 07-27-2006 02:32 PM

Lovely scenery... I love the game Jenga! Haven't played that in ages.

amber 07-27-2006 02:32 PM

Bacon...wrapped....cheese...stuffed....chicken???? I think you should've had the white trash title over that one, too. Did you guys have any salami stuffed pork chops with cheese and sausage gravy? Or how about some deep fried donut topped pepperoni sticks with butter?

Those pics look great, I'm jealous as usual. Or, would be, if I didn't go to the beach and marina last weekend, and wasn't going camping in two weeks. I'm theoretically jealous. I like the little frog a lot. Is it weird that I kind of felt sorry for your butter chick?

Those pics of you are cute, I don't think that one is bad at all.
And look, you got Strand to say your pics were good, which is more than I could accomplish.

I would be so pissed about the cloudy day. When my "friend" came to visit one weekend in June, it was the only cloudy weekend that month, and all I did was pout. Well, not all, but about half of what I did was pout.
I will say, however, it looks like a beautiful place to have rain, like it would smell great and still be beautiful. :)

Whatever, I'm glad you're back, I missed you. :xoxo:

Trashy?!?! Not for the money they paid for them! For the record, they weren't drumsticks with American processed cheese tossed on - they're boneless skinless breasts stuffed with cream cheese & chives wrapped in said bason. Do you think bacon wrapped scallops are trashy too? Is it a pork prduct issue for you? Harumph.

:p

And it's a butter LAMB, not a chick. Please get your Easter references straight. ;) Does everyone else have those around Easter? It may just be a local Polish thing....

The frog was cool, there were actually several of them in the showers.

DrummerDeanna 07-27-2006 03:14 PM

Great pictures...that place looks amazing! Glad you had fun..!!

A)I've never heard of or seen butter made into any shape
B) Anything wrapped in bacon is gross and trashy, and automatically not good for you. Also, I don't like bacon.
C) Maybe if it was prosciutto or something...

Are we all clear?
:xoxo: :wavey:

You not liking bacon is soooo wrong. I will be cooking bacon & egs at your house when I stay there.

That's fine. I'll buy sausage and cook that for myself, you can have all the bacon. As if we won't be going out for breakfast anyways. :D Omigod, you should see the breakfast menu I found at this one place....you. will. die! DIE!!!!

Bacon is too fatty, it has that whole strip of grisle down the middle. I hate meat fat. Hate. Unless, I guess, it is mixed in, like with sausage (only the small links, I don't like those big fat Italian and Polish sausages. *shudder*) and hamburger.

DrummerDeanna 07-27-2006 03:57 PM

I was just remembering these little bacon wrapped shrimps they served at my old job's Christmas party. Those were soooo good. mmmmm bacon.

I LOVE BACON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT'S BACON!

Can't stand the stuff. Either it's way overcooked with the texture resembling wood chips, or it's greasy and floppy. That new burger BK has with three beef patties and mounds of bacon just makes my stomach turn.

Ironically enough, I'm a sausage guy.

PS, love the pics Paula.

Why is that ironic? I like sausage but not bacon. Love sausage.

Yeah, I figured, but I thought that was too obvious. For me, of course, it was straight humor. Is that irony? I'll go check.

great pictures Paula!! and I am so with you on the appitizers...Amber only knows California apps. (I think)

But CAMPING??? c'mon girlfriend ...we have talked about this...
Camping in my mind is reaching over -grabbing the phone and saying..."Room Service?"
That is my idea of camping!!!:]

jannieC 07-27-2006 07:10 PM

I'm glad you could have fun in spite of the weather. Actually, you and your friends look like you're fun to hang with.

Incidentally, I *love* bacon. Extra crispy especially.

No, I only don't like bacon. Oh, and if possible, tend to prefer to eat healthfully. But I have heard of that appetizer. I just would'nt want it.
I love how people call that "California" as if heating healthfully is a crazy, radical concept.
But Paula eats well anyway, I was just teasing her because I think meat wrapped in meat with cheese is funny. Seriously, you should have deep fried it...

seeker007nmss 07-27-2006 07:53 PM

Looks like the pup had fun too! My brother has a golden and they LOVE the water. :)

eclipse 07-27-2006 08:01 PM

Sorry Amber,
but us New Englanders' thought about eating healthy even before it was cool...
Venison, rabbit, Taters from the garden, maple syrup, Mc Intosh apples-yum!

Now fried....that's an idea:D

GODDESS6 07-27-2006 08:06 PM

Yeah - apples are almost a vegetable. Potatoes barely have nutritional value...
good try! too bad y'all didn't learn just a little bit more from the natives when you came over...

sara1998 07-28-2006 08:42 AM

Great pics, Paula. I think we scrapped our camping this summer because of my friends lack of funds. I wish we were going. I'm so damn mad over it, but I understand. Wish I had another friend here who liked to camp as much as I do....

As far as the bacon goes. Damn, how do I love bacon? I used to take bacon, cream cheese and jalapano halves... stuff the halves with cream cheese, wrap them in bacon, put a toothpick through it and viola! Instant appitizers! I would take them up to the guys where Jason worked, and they loved me for it. Bacon wrapped cheese stuffed chicken breasts sound like heaven to me!

^ Yes it does to me too
We get our bacon from a local smokehouse, so it is just delicious!

I actually saw a cooking show (it was one of them ole 'Southern ones'..., the ones that usually have way too much lard and dumplings for me).
However, this one was good.
The Chef made apps. of fresh figs wrapped in bacon, or was it dates? Either way, they sure looked and sounded good to me----
Scallops in bacon, Portella mushrooms in bacon, cherry tomatoes in bacon, frenchtoast twists in bacon....oh the list is endless

How can someone not eat bacon?? It's it's, it's, Un- American!!
Just watch- next thing you know, Amber is going to be telling us she doesn't eat Spam either!! Geesch:distress:

You can borrow it, but you can't have it. I swear that shirt is 15 years old, it's the perfect camping shirt.

I don't mind sausage, but I have to be in the mood for it. Bacon I want all the time. And sometimes sausage can be scary - who knows what's in there? At least with bacon, I know it's all fat, baby!

S'okay. Save up for next year. We just bought a pop-up camper - perfect for Cedar Point. :) I'll bring the bacon wrapped cheese stuffed chicken.

This trip sounds like fun Paula and Sara...
Can I bring the scallops, and even more bacon?
....and stay in a nice hotel? :p

Or would that really not be in the spirit of "camping".
I'll use a flashlight in my hotel suite when I read under the covers.....;)
