TV shows on DVD.

I'm not sure if a thread like this has been started before - I know there was a DVD one - but I'm narrowing it.

TV shows on DVD. Like the concept? Hate it?

What TV shows do you have/want?

---

I'll start.

I LOVE this concept. When they started releasing the Little House on the Prairie seasons I was beyond excited, and I now own all seasons :D

I also own:

Golden Girls (right now only 1-3)
Xena Season2
Wings Seasons 1 and 2

I'm considering getting Friends and I really really want X-Files, Ab Fab and Sex and the City.

wondergirl9847 07-24-2006 07:56 PM

DVD sets..

I want:

Wings
American Gothic
Twin Peaks (BOTH seasons AND the pilot...sheesh, just put it out as a total set already!! )
The Office (US version...season 1)

I have:

The Office (UK version...both seasons and the special)
Keen Eddie (entire season)
Blackadder (all seasons plus the specials)
The Monkees (both seasons)

That's all I can think of at the moment.

DrummerDeanna 07-24-2006 08:05 PM

You have got to get Wings..I'm loving it - it's a real trip down memory lane.

And I didn't realize that some of my favorite episodes are from the early days! Namely the one with Trivial Pursuit

Mad4stevie 07-24-2006 08:21 PM

I LOVE The Office!!

That is the one that I want to get. I also have other SNL specials on dvd (Had to have the Will Ferrel "cow bell" skit).

David 07-24-2006 08:25 PM

I love TV shows on DVD. That's the major problem with TV shows on TV: commercials. So DVDs remove that problem right off the bat.

I have "I Love Lucy" Seasons 1 through 6 on DVD, plus I have "The Partridge Family," "SCTV," "Your Show of Shows," "This Is Your Life" & "Sanford & Son."

wondergirl9847 07-24-2006 08:29 PM

Yes!

Man, do we have different taste in TV shows. I love ya David, but the above shows, IMO, suck!

The only show I've bought is the first 3 seasons of Seinfeld. BUT, I just don't watch them as much as I thought I would, so I've not bought any more. I've seen them all soooooooooooooooooo many times before I got the DVDs.
Right now, I have, from the library, Golden Girls, 3rd Rock, and......Starsky and Hutch!(ducks!)
I'd like to own:
Married, with Children
MASH
Dick Van Dyke Show(imo, the best sitcom of all time).

SuzeQuze 07-24-2006 08:36 PM

So far I just have Gilmore Girls seasons 1 - 3. I want seasons 4 and 5 but haven't caught them on sale yet. I want to get Point Pleasant because they only aired half of the episodes they shot. It was a series that was canceled about a year and a half ago. It just never took off.

Gah! Well I'm jealous of your X-Files :p

I just thought of a couple of shows I'd like to see on DVD -

The Naked Truth (I LOVE Tea Leoni)
and Flying Blind (early Tea Leoni show, I don't even know if it made it a whole season!)

My local library has X-Files on DVD. But, it's really popular, and they usually have "holds" placed on them, before they even get returned.

Anyone else get videos from the library? I just started a couple months ago. Money's so tight right now, I had to find some CHEAP entertainment.

I used to do that. But one time I had 20 videos checked out at once. I chucked them all into my closet and forgot about them for 2 weeks. The $50 late fine pissed me off, so now I go to Blockbuster.

Ha! They've warned me once, and I offered to pay the day's fine, but they told me to forget about it.
And yeah, I get about 12-15 at a time. I'm usually in town every Tuesday, with about two hours to kill before I go to work, so I head for the library.
What I wish is that I had a new computer. Two of my friends have the program where you can copy ANY DVD. That's the first program I'm installing, IF, I can ever afford a new one!

Miss Vicky 07-24-2006 10:42 PM

I love it that they're releasing television shows on DVD. I just wish they'd do it with more of them.

I have:

Black Adder - The Complete Collector's Edition
Mr. Bean - The Whole Bean
Mr. Bean - The Animated Series
The Thin Blue Line - the complete series
Ren and Stimpy - Seasons 1-5
Married With Children Seasons 1-4
Queer As Folk (American Version) - All 5 seasons
Queer As Folk (British Version) - both seasons
House, M.D. - Season One (and have pre-ordered season 2)
Grey's Anatomy - Season One (and have pre-ordered season 2)
Night Court - Season One
Night Court - Television favorites collection
Wild Boys - Season One

I would like to get the rest of the Married With Children collection, the Roseanne series and A Bit of Fry and Laurie. Also I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they put out the remaining seasons of Night Court; sales of the first season were lower than anticipated so we may never get the rest.

I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that they'll release all of Daria on DVD (so far only some specials have been released) and also my biggest guilty pleasure: Nash Bridges.

catinthedark 07-24-2006 11:02 PM

i love that they're releasing all the tv shows on dvd!

i have watched the entire West Wing series (i had never seen seasons 1 and 2). i'm also just about through the entire Six Feet Under series.

what i'd love to see:

- Twice in a Lifetime (i'm a total romantic sap - i LOVED this show)

- LA Law - it's been SO long since i saw it

- eventually... ER (i can watch ER over and over again - every episode)

- Roseanne (again, a show i can watch over and over and over. i loved it until the final season or two)

and i know i will eventually watch the Sopranos, 24, and Lost.

Wow! What a collection!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

All the ones I've highlighted in bold red I also started collecting because I am a HUGE Lucille Ball fanatic (I love my redhead gals Lucy and Carol Burnette!) and I MUST have them all! I saw Tim Conway and Harvey Korman perform skits live in Atlanta at the Fox Theatre a couple of years ago (lucky for me I got close seats the night of the show!) and it was the funniest thing I have EVER seen live! I wanted to see Vicki Lawrence in her live act, but it was never in my area so that I could attend.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I quickly bought my guilty pleasure as soon as they hit the shelves eat time they were released - SEX IN THE CITY! I regret getting them so fast, as they now have a special edition of them all in a nice package.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I recently started collecting Designing Women and Golden Girls episodes, mainly because I've been to the sets of each show (in Atlanta and Florida) and I just love the actresses and I continue to follow them in all their roles.

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I have always watched Desperate Housewives and Charmed, as well as another little known series called Sisters. I use the internet P2P and Torrent files to get copies of these shows instead of the box sets of the ones that are still on (although sadly, Charmed just ended its 8 season run) and Sisters hasn't been released yet on DVD and I have no other alternative.
Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Since I live in Savannah, I see Paula Deen all the time at her restaurant and around town. I've loved her and her cooking for years! She's remarkable and quite a character! I knew that before Cameron Crowe wrote that role for her in Elizabethtown...
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
If anyone ever wants any merchandise signed or purchased from the store she owns in her restaurant (she also owns Uncle Bubba's seafood restaurant), I certainly don't mind helping out. She knows me from all the years I've brought new customers in from the UK and everywhere else...she ever comes and sits a spell with us when she can to chat.

macfanken 07-25-2006 02:37 AM

I have...

"Arrested Development" Seasons 1 and 2... season 3 will be released in August.

"Absolutely Fabulous" I have all of the series... I think there are five of them?

"Strangers With Candy" Seasons 1-3

"League of Gentlemen" Series 1 and 2... still need to get Series 3.

Gypsy-Rhiannon 07-25-2006 04:47 AM

I have so far:

ER
Charmed
Bewitched
Friends

Would love Cagney and Lacey to be brought out on DVD.

Have you ever considered renting out a room? My Dad did well with that renting to a family friend for years.

madformac 07-25-2006 07:22 AM

OK, TV shows I have on DVD are :

Seinfeld - seasons 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6
Miami Vice - seasons 1 and 2
Ultimate Force - seasons 1, 2 and 3
Kath & Kim - season 1
Ally McBeal - season 1
Phoenix Nights seasons 1 and 2
Little Britain - season 1
Airwolf - season 1
Red Dwarf - seasons 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6
I'm Alan Partridge - seasons 1 and 2
From The Earth To The Moon (all 12 episodes)
Archangel (all 3 episodes)

hayley 07-25-2006 09:53 AM

I love TV on DVD. I mean, I really love it. It's siiiiiick. There are some great TV shows- and I love having them all together. It makes shows that I already love so much better, to be able to watch it all together and really see the way arcs play out. I love it.

I have:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer- Chosen Collection (Seasons 1-7)
Firefly- The Complete Series
Alias Seasons 1-4
Gilmore Girls Seasons 1-5
24 Seasons 1-3
Arrested Development Seasons 1-2
Scrubs Seasons 1-2
Miracles- The Complete Series
Freaks and Geeks- The Complete Series
Undeclared- The Complete Series
Felicity- Seasons 1-4 (shut. up.)
Northern Exposure Seasons 1-3
House Season 1
Little Britain Season 1
The Office- The Complete Series + Special (BBC)
Twin Peaks- Season 1
Sealab 2021- Seasons 1-2
Home Movies- Seasons 1-3

Edited to add what I forgot:

CSI Seasons 1-2
Veronica Mars Season 1

I think I have more but I'm not at home to check.

There are ones that I want, but I'm too skint- new BBC Doctor Who Series 1 (shut. up.), Battlestar Galactica, The Sopranos/Six Feet Under, Sex and the City, The Adventures of Brisco County Jr., etc. I'm also waiting for an Angel box set like the Buffy Chosen Collection. They were limited edition, PRETTY, and I got all seven seasons for $130.

"arc" is the new buzzword in movie & TV reviewing--"dramative arc," "narrative arc," "character arc," etc. Who keeps raiding this lost arc?

Holy ****. I don't think I've seen anything on your list!

estranged4life 07-25-2006 10:01 AM

Sadly...

I just cant get into watching seasons of a TV show on DVD, tried it in the past and each time I ended up selling the DVD's (Which I recently did yet again).

My attention span is very short in regards to ANY broadcast...So give me music instead (And yes, I also cannot sit through music DVD's, More of an old-timer who prefers cd/tape over DVD).

He likes Sanford and Son!
And I can't help it, I HATE Lucy, even though ya'all seem to love it. Al Bundy was right, "they should've killed em all off, and made Fred the star, and called it 'Mertz's World'".

 When I first moved here a few weeks ago all I had was a portable DVD player (lent to me by my sister) and no money so I went to the library - what a great thing! I never knew they had such great and current videos there!!!

The only problem I noticed is that some of them are SO banged up = a couple wouldn't even play. People piss me off.

LOVED LOVED that show - a little less so when they changed it all around and they added George Wendt or something - but I still enjoyed it. I seriously think Tea Leoni is so under-rated. Of course I could just be biased because I've had the hots for her since the "Flying Blind" days.

Now that I think about it, I did see that one. I liked it quite a lot--although the two main characters were irritating with their yuppie childishness, the peripheral characters--the DJ, the Indian boy, the sheriff, the diner owner, the wandering moose--were all interesting & amusing.

Sanford & Son is one of the great 1970s corrosive subversions of what ultimately became PC minority rhetoric, & I think it's a hoot & a howl. You don't know what you're missing, Dave. Don't you love the corruscating W.C. Fields? Sanford & Son carries on that tradition.

The theme song is also the best theme song with a clavinet ever on TV.

Sanford and Son is okay, David. I've seen em all though.
If you've noticed, it seems to me like the sitcoms that are really considered classic, seem to revolve around the characters, NOT the times. S&S, I guess, doesn't really play on "the times" as much as some others(although it does to some extent). I can't recall a sitcom that is considered "classic", where the characters lived in virtual poverty.
Stuff like Good Times, Maude, All in the Family(I wasn't INTENDING to name all Norman Lear projects!) just seem to topical to withstand the test of time.
Just my 2 cents. Your mileage may vary....

My alltime favorite is The Dick Van Dyke Show.

Does anyone here like Resurrection Blvd? I think it's very good. And I'm curious about Curb Your Enthusiasm. I was also thinking to write something about it, in Italy isn't very known, this year it debuted here on cable.

It just didn't seem to have the same sort of universal appeal as the other two - I mean, Mr. Bean is essentially a mute. Most of the comedy is physical so there's not much in the way of cultural differences (like the use of slang, for example) to get past. The comedy of Blackadder comes mostly from making fun of stupid people and who doesn't love that? But I just didn't get The Thin Blue Line. I don't know, maybe I'm just dense. (No comments from the peanut gallery, please. Just snicker to yourselves.)

On a side note, I saw that you have the Mr. Bean boxed set, have you seen any of animated Mr. Bean series yet?
