Housework? Which is worst?

Ironing a shirt for work atm. Only thing worse is scrubbing bathroom tile. What do you dislike?

amber 07-22-2006 03:27 AM

Dishes are the worst. I don't have a dishwasher. I will clean everything else in the world first. I should be doing them now.
Second - cleaning your fridge.
I like laundry, and vacuuming.

Oh, and why don't you get a steamer? Do you have to have creases?

ragandbone 07-22-2006 03:27 AM

I dislike removing the "sink salad" from the kitchen drain catch. Emptying the compost is a close second.

foxyluva 07-22-2006 03:29 AM

Housework in general - especially using the washing machine, it gives you an electric shock everytime you reach in to remove items of clothing

carrie721 07-22-2006 03:30 AM

i hate dishes. i would let them pile up for weeks if i had the opportunity.

Just doing small touch ups. Dry cleaners left a funny crease. oooh. fridge cleaning is bad too.

Vacuuming, my back hurts every time. Then ironing. Although I don't mind that so much when you have one of those over the door ironing boards. I just hate unfolding and folding it. Who invented that contraption. Why don't they update it so it isn't so awkward? Why don't I update it and make a fortune? Hmm...

catinthedark 07-22-2006 10:21 AM

aaaaah.... a thread i can relate to. :wavey:

i HATE housework. all housework. i envy those people who find it therapeutic. i get no satisfaction from any of it. problem is - i love a clean house.

i loathe cleaning the bathtub. i hate vacuuming and dusting. i hate doing the floors. the only thing i don't mind is dishes - because i have a dishwasher.

my solution? i've decided to get a cleaning woman.

Miss Vicky 07-22-2006 11:02 AM

I hate it all. But the worst ones are:

Scrubbing the toilet
Changing the litterbox
Cleaning the refrigerator (you never know what you're going to find in there)

Worse still is yard work. Anything that involves being out in the heat and dealing with dirt and bugs is not high on my list of ways to spend the weekend.

I laffed out loud at this! Suze, you're a character!

I hate dusting. I'll scrub toilets and mop bathroom floors on my hands and knees before I'll dust! Vaccuuming is the easiest IMO...

also, I hate ironing too. and I have one of those over the door ironing boards too!

I personally think steamers are a pain....at least the hand held versions....

jannieC 07-22-2006 04:30 PM

I hate putting clean laundry away. I don't mind washing, or even folding. But putting away kills me. I once saw some famous person showing on TV how he had his washer and dryer IN his walk-in closet, and I thought that was pure genius.

sara1998 07-22-2006 06:45 PM

I have 2 1/2 baths. In my bathroom, I have a shower stall and a garden tub. I hate cleaning them both. I hate cleaning Sara's tub, too. Tubs and showers, and mopping. I loathe these chores. The rest I can handle.

madformac 07-22-2006 07:15 PM

I'm a guy that lives on his own so here is my breakdown.

Ironing is a pain in both the back and the ass..

Being a typical male, I've found if I put my shirts in the dryer and hang them when they are dry but still hot I can get away without ironing, they stay creaseless (is that a word?). The other option is to give my mother a call and arrange a collection of assorted laundry, shes retired and needs something to do so I feel like it gives her a purpose.... lol.

I like cleaning the bathroom for some odd reason. Dishes piss me off however. I've got a dishwasher but I've never used it. I like the idea of filling it up over a period or a week or so and then getting a machine to do it for me. However the sheer work of having to open the door and then figure out how to work it means I just stick the dishes in the sink and do it by hand every time. How odd.

HomerMcvie 07-22-2006 11:14 PM

When I had a small place in town, I was king of housekeepers. Every Monday night, I'd spend about 45 minutes, cleaning like mad, and be DONE.
Then, I bought a big house in the country, that I can't really afford(you know the guy on TV, who says, "how do I do it? I'm up to debt to my eyeballs!- That's me!:( ), anyway, I simply can't keep up now. I'd have to clean 5 nights a week to keep up with it. So basically, I just try to keep all the clutter picked up. I am pretty anal about keeping the kitchen clean, and dishes done. And the bath tub clean. But who's got time(or the will) to scrub floors?
I host about 25 family members for all the summer holidays, so on the week preceding- I just clean like a madman! 5 nights, about 4 hours each.:( :(
I sometimes wish I still had that little place in town.........

Livia 07-23-2006 12:29 PM

For all you shower and tub cleanin' haters: I bought that Scrubbing Bubbles automatic cleaning system thingie. It works great! I've got a fiberglass tub, so I can't comment on how well it works on tile and grout, but I'm happy with it!

I don't mind cleaning, but the problem is, I have to be in the mood to do it - and then I put on some disco music and go into attack mode. I bought a stick-vac recently that's much easier to push around than the big vac w/ all the on-board attachments. My least favorite thing to clean is my bathroom sink area. It's a long vanity, w/ all my crap on it, perfume bottles, etc. And I shed like crazy - so between my hair, hairspray gunk, loose face powder, etc., etc., it's just gross and a pain to clean, having to move everything around.

HomerMcvie 07-23-2006 12:49 PM

I don't mind cleaning MY bathroom at all. As long as I know that that hair stuck to the side of the tub is MINE, it doesn't bother me.
My guest bath? I'd rather be flogged, than get on my knees and clean it! I pick an old towel to clean it with, then throw it away! Other people's.........err.........stains, make me want to VOMIT!

That's so funny. When I was in my early 20's I had a housecleaning business. Just throw some good gloves on and you can do it!

?

Yes, I have the same problem. I only start to enjoy them while I am in the middle, then I like.

My problem is that I start one thing and see so many other things and it gets overwhelming. I try to clean a little everyday so it's easier.

michelle2677 07-23-2006 04:01 PM

ugh. Right now it's cleaning out the fridge since that is what I just finished. Tomorrow I'll be cleaning the floors and I'll hate that with the fire of a thousand suns.

It all is awful to me.

eclipse 07-23-2006 04:04 PM

Ironing...
I have even gotten to the point where I don't Iron ANYTHING!!!
It all goes to the drycleaner
Besides, slacks look better-shirts are crisper and sweaters "hang" the way they are suppossed to...when they are dry-cleaned.
I am lucky, the chick that works at the dry cleaners has become like a pal and she always gives me 30% off my bill....so that helps a lot

I am the only person ,i n the world, capable of putting more creases INTO an item when I try to straighten it with an iron- YUCK

I am OK with Everything else..I am one of those theraputic types-I
t's mindless and I feel better when it is done:wavey:

Other peoples messes? ick. But then again, I wonder how many people "cleaned" before the cleaners came? "We can't let them think we are THIS messy!".

A wise woman once said "I don't want to be a cleaning lady, I want to be a star". In other words, housework sucks!

The thing that I hate the most is dishes. I love cooking, so I always have a million dishes to do after I am done in the kitchen. I normally just load everything in the dishwasher even if it shouldn't go in the dishwasher. I also load things in the dishwasher without rinsing them first, so they never get clean enough and I end up running them through the washer six times before they are up to par.

Let's see. I hate dusting! Ahhhhh! It is like fighting a losing game. The dust just goes everywhere and then two hours later (when the dust settles) you are right back where you started.

Dude. Buy some Swiffers. And always vacuum first, let everything settle, then dust.

I would have to say I hate cleaning the bathrooms. I'm like Livia, my hair is all oever the floor, the shower, the sink. I'm not grossed out by my own hair, but it's a pain in the ass to get it all. Especially on a ceramic tile floor & grout. I sweep, then I run the vacuum over it, sweep again, then I'll mop & there's still hair on the mop, getting wet & sticking to the tiles. Now that's gross.
