You may be wondering...

...why I keep reviving older threads & replying to a whole bunch in a row. Let me tell you why. It's because YOU PEOPLE are not doing your jobs! It's slack city over here on The Ledge! I know it's summer, but it's not like people aren't logging on (yes, sometimes I DO check, lol.) I KNOW YOU'VE BEEN HERE! I CAN SEE YOU!

So, what gives? Bored? Busy? Don't tell me there's nothing to talk about in Chitchat, for God's sake. Where are the "battle of the bands" threads, Sharon? Where's Seeker & his fluffy bunnies? Why didn't David even mention that there was a tsunami - he loves that stuff! I can't do it all myself, people! :distress: I'm exhausted!

SuzeQuze 07-18-2006 10:48 AM

You have been rather active on here lately. Maybe it's time to find a hobby. :p

JazmenFlowers 07-18-2006 10:49 AM

bitch, I'm trying (see new Like or Dislike in Stevie forum)

I see what you're saying though...this place has been D.E.A.D. for a while now...

EDIT: I take back my above comment since I see you have replied to my poll! :)

gldstwmn 07-18-2006 10:54 AM

Hey, I've started the obligatory world news and politics threads...

I had a PE teacher who used to make us do that exercise. I could probably stand to do a little of it now.

BTW, I perked up when I saw all the new replies to threads this morning. Thanks to you for your tireless work! Carry on.

No problem. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it. Like when Stevie wanted a BUNN coffeemaker, and they told her that she could go ahead & buy one, but she would have to make the coffee. So did she back down? No. She bought the coffeemaker & made the coffee, dammit!

See, she was part of the "new coffee generation" but they didn't even choose her for the commercial!

That is the most retarded thing I've ever seen. "Coffee gives you time to dream it. Then you can do it!"

Well I don't have home Internet access yet - should the end of this week though!

I'm still too new at work to spend too much time on here. However, I have managed to erase an entire program and today missed a huge important training meeting :distress: damn. Luckily they've been going easy on me because I'm new and going through lots and lots of stress.

DavidMn 07-18-2006 12:08 PM

I'm here. Although it's hard to come up with new ideas somtimes in my pea brain.

I was wondering about Seeker and his fluffy bunnies just yesterday! I never really have too much to say... I just respond to silly threads like this.

I agree. It's been waaaay too slow around here lately. The ONLY time I go to Seven Wonders is when I can find nothing to do here.
Let's step it up, people!!!

Hardly any one ever says anything I'm interested in responding to, and I hardly ever say anything anyone is interested in responding to. That is my particular problem, I guess. Also, I guess, I'd rather listen to music than talk about it endlessly, and also I don't care much about the date Stevie did this one yell, or the organ Chris was using that one day at the hollywood bowl in 1981 or whatever.
Also, it appears I don't watch as much, or the same, television shows as everyone else. So those threads are out.

I was watching this show on PBS last night in the "Philosophers" series about Neitzche that I thought was fascinating and had many deep thoughts about, but again, no one ever responds much to my deep thoughts. Not that they should, but I'm just saying.

But, what I took away is that being happy is hard, and it's work, and the more obstacles you overcome, instead of shrinking from challenges, that is working towards happiness. And so, the more adversity you successfully face, the more you have worked towards happiness. He also said drinking/drugs is bad, because you shouldn't deny you have problems, or try to escape them, you should realize that all of life is problems and failure, and you need to face them and overcome them. Otherwise you'll never be moving towards "happiness". This also applies to taking risks in your life - failing is always a possibility, but you'll never have the rewards of risk without failing or the possibility of such. And of course, the more obstacles you face, the better you get at it. Voila, happiness! :p Although I believe there was a part about happiness not being a static state. Duh.

It was said better last night, and it seems an obvious concept, and I realize that is simplified Neitzche, but I nevertheless found it valuable anyway. Sometimes you kind of know things, but then someone says it in a perfect, interesting, insightful way that really brings it home.

And besides, Paula, you don't even post here at night. Huff.

As far as I can discern, much of your rigorous evening schedule includes watching TV.

kudos (I think) to you guys who post at work. I'd be too afraid the IT department would detect it and I'd be brought before a panel of senior management trying to explain my obsession with FM and all the other stuff we talk about on here. But I don't really have time to surf at work, anyway, other than the occaisional news & weather sites.

I knew something was (pardon the pun) fishy when I saw the prelim mag of 7.2. Quakes that size rarely if ever generate tsunams ... The revised mag of 7.7 made a bit more sense.

I didn't post about it here because Kelly & Vanessa have been making fun of me for always talking about that, so that's why I didn't start a thread. They make fun of me & they hurt me & I don't want to experience that.

I don't really have anything interesting to contribute at the moment. Unless someone wants to discuss the new Sonic Youth and Golden Smog albums? Didn't think so...

My favourite philosophers (which I'm listing like my favourite actors!) are: Leibniz, Hume and Russell. I always loved reading Bertrand Russell!

I only saw the one show on him, and I liked what they said he said on the show. About happiness being work, and to expect happiness without it is delusional. Eternal recurrence is fine, except that it's not like reincarnation in that, from what you say here, he thought your life would be exactly the same every time? That's pretty interesting for me to think about, though. I mean, I've often thought things like that. It would suck if it was exactly the same.
I don't know anything about those philosophers, or very little. A bit of Bertrand Russell I've come across. I was thinking of buying the "philosophers" series, which is much easier than reading all the books, woudln't you say?
Why do you like those? What were their themes? Ideas?

I started reading Russell in junior high school. I read the tome on the Great Philosophers in high school, & in later years I enjoyed reading Russell's shorter tracts & essays. My favorites are:

"Why I Am Not a Christian"

and

"Nice People"

amber 07-19-2006 04:18 PM

Ah. I was confused, because I thought Russell was a humorist, not a philosopher. Yes, I swear I've been to school. I'd probably read him first.

It is summertime and it goes by way too fast. When I am not working about 50-60 hours a week I try to get out of the house and do something on the weekends.
I have taken the Providence to Newport ferry twice by myself this summer. I went to Boston last Saturday and I bought a friend of mine a sunset cruise around Boston Harbor.
I think that I will start a new thread called 'What are your summer plans?" It can be things that you have done already or things that you plan on doing.
See Paula, you made me have an idea for a new thread.
