diet pills

do you take them? what do you take? what are the results?

like a couple others here, I've been on a get fit or die diet plan. I really cracked down June 1 and have done a great job of working out 4-5 times a week, drinking plenty of water and keeping my caloric intake in check. no fast food, no sodas, very little sugar. I used to take Adipex (illegally obtained, of course) and it was like a wonder pill. then I started to build up a tolerance, the **** is expensive and I couldn't find it anywhere so I had to stop. then I heard about Lipo 6 and just bought a bottle last night. so far this morning it is working like Adipex did and it says you will not build up a tolerance. I'm still taking my vitamins, etc. but was just curious what anyone else is doing...

my goal is to be halfway at my mark by my birthday (August 26) and the rest by Thanksgiving. so far I've done a good job, losing slow and steady.

jannieC 07-13-2006 01:59 PM

Jason, you need to let me know how this goes. I've never tried pills (except dexie-whatevers in high school) because I'm always afraid I'll feel wired out. Do you feel like that. If not, PM me about where I can get it. Seriously. xoxo

SuzeQuze 07-13-2006 02:05 PM

This thread scares me, be careful with those things.

strandinthewind 07-13-2006 02:22 PM

This is going to be a little harsh - but it is coming from someone who has lost about 80 pounds. Pills and diets do not work - period - trust me, I have tried them all. The reason is once you get off of them, you balloon back up. So, I concluded that if change the way you eat and add some daily exercise and the laws of physics mandate the weight will come off. A great diet is Weight Watchers because it is not really a diet, but a modification of what you eat and when you eat it and it excludes no food groups I can think of.

So, don't take that shiitte and start eating better and exercising.

you didn't...I know all that and I should listen to myself and not be sucked into it, but I have my weak moments. nice Ledgies bitchslap you back into reality. :)

by the way, even though this is the first day I've taken Lipo 6, I think I'll return it to GNC...I'm not liking the way it's making me feel. so, no pills and just stick to my healthy eating and exercise.

Phew! Yay. :blob1: And believe me, I know the temptation because it is also very hard for me to lose weight. I'm 5' 6" and weight 155 lbs. I have a lot of issues about that and body image and such. Like most women do who are bigger than a size 6 in this culture. My roommate is 5' 9" and 130 lbs, plus eats more than me, so that doesn't help matters. It's all very frustrating.

Anyway, good for you Jazzy for avoiding them! And you strand for being the mother hen, so to speak. :)

I've got major body image issues (of course, being 5'7" and nearly 200 pounds will do that) and have been trying to find a way to get jump started without doing anything that's too risky to my health.

One thing you should ALSO monitor besides diet and exercise is to make sure you get enough sleep. Studies have linked lack of sleep as a cause for obesity, so make sure you get plenty of rest!

Seriously? Suze, I'm about the same ht&wt and if I look half as good as you, I'm pretty damned excited.

We should meet up in Cali & compare ass size.

Some people have a naturally high metabolism. But, that does not mean others cannot fool their body into one. The way to do that is to eat six or so small meals a day. That way you body is always ready to burn the calories so you can have that pizza once a week.

See, our culture is just totally f*cked. I gained 15 lbs in the 6 months since I quit smoking and I have felt HORRIBLE about myself. I am 5'7" and now weigh a little over 140!! And I feel chunky and unattractive!

I would never take diet pills. I'm too scared of the side effects and I feel like if there really is a diet pill that works (safely or not)- hell, everyone would be taking it. I lost a little weight on Weight Watchers (like, 6 lbs total) but I plateaud for the next 3 or 4 weeks and gave up on it (plus, I hated paying for it).

DavidMn 07-13-2006 07:16 PM

Boy I could learn a few things from all of you. I just thank god he decided to make me 6'4.

Janet 07-13-2006 08:58 PM

I would love to take diet pills because I need to lose 30 pounds. I am terrified of them because everything makes me shake or makes me really moody.

I'd just rather do it the real way because with pills...you will have to stop them someday and do it for real anyway...so why not start that way?

Good luck with whatever you do:)

I'm 5'3" and 148. I look fine, pretty good in fact, I'm sure you look great. Especially since your skin probably looks better and you no doubt smell better...

I always had a good metabolism but after 40 it slows in almost anyone even if you're athletic and active .I've been taking animalcuts a sports supplement which is really just a package of diet pills because i've found that at my age it kind of makes the difference of having defined abdominals or not ..Vain I know but they do kind of work.

amber 07-14-2006 12:22 AM

I just thought I should pop in and remind people who are trying to lose weight:

1. Start cooking with coconut oil, or somehow get four tablespoons of it per day
2. Take either flaxseed or fish oil suppliments, approx 2000 mg/day
3. Calcium suppliments - calcium helps you lose weight as well.

Jan, (I love calling you "Jan"- did your mom or any of your loved ones call you "Jan"- sorry, just feeling it) I need to lose about 45-ish pounds (Amber and Jason will tell you differently, but you know how you "feel" about your body and how you feel "uncomfortable"??? I am uncomfortable).

Jannie may smell better- however, I'd just like to chime in that despite my current degradation and general falling-apart-ness in the body department, that I happen to have flawless skin (acne has never visited my ass) and my deep-sea blue eyes are still as bright as ever. Let's just not talk about my body at this point..................

Oh, that's sweet, but I'm sure you look great. Anyway - about the suppliments - they just do!
Ha, no, the coconut oil is the most healthful oil, and you need fat to process fat. Something about it being a medium chain lipid and some other factors make it good for you. It also has antibacterial and other properties. There was a girl actually on here (and I've read other stories) who went on the coconut diet, and she lost 30 lbs she didn't know she had to lose, her skin cleared up, and many more health benefits. It's practically magical, look it up online!
Flaxseed Oil/fish Oil is important for a similar, though not identical reason - They contain Omega 3 fatty acids in addition to the Omega 6 that is the fat in every other food we eat. Except walnuts, they have Omega 3, too. Anyway, you need the Omega 3 for various important body functions, but the weight loss comes in because you can't efficiently process the Omega 6 fats from everything else without the Omega 3. In general, you should be trying to get as high of a percentage of your fat as possible from "good fats" anyway.
Calcium - I don't know why, just needed in the process, it's one of those "studies have shown, and me and all my friends, too, that calcium helps with weight loss"
:wavey:

skcin 07-14-2006 01:33 PM

I've heard about coconut oil from a few people. A girl I know started cooking everything in coconut oil (well, not everything, I mean the stuff she used to cook in olive or veggie oil) and lost about 30 pounds within 6 months. She didn't really do anything else either - didn't dramatically increase her activity or anything, didn't cut calories, didn't eliminate anything from her diet. She did up her water intake, but that's about it.

I can hardly believe that - did *she* claim she didn't do anything else but cook everything in coconut oil? That oil may do a lot of useful things to your body but it certainly doesn't make you burn fat like crazy on its own without any other "activities" (like sports, cutting calories etc.).

Yeah it does, apparently. Or rather, it makes your body use fat differently, so that you do lose weight. Besides, I don't know what is so hard to believe, 30 pounds in 6 months is hardly rapid weight loss - 5 lbs a month? Have you read other things about this, online or anything? I've read several similar accounts, myself.
But perhaps this girl was already exercising and eating well, but had reached a plateau, and the coconut oil made the difference.

Janet 07-15-2006 02:40 AM

Tower...Jan is fine. But in "real life", my grandmother ...who is also Janet...is Jan and I am Janet. No one calls me Jan. :)

I won't even reveal my weight. I am 5'9 so I weigh a lot more than many women and I'll never weigh 120 or anything because I don't think my body was made that small.

But it's not about number...it IS about how you feel. If you were a size 8 and went to a size 10 and that doesn't fit right ( that's me) then...ok. I did weigh myself and MY GOD I gained A LOT. But honestly...if I lose only 15 pounds ( really I need to lose 30) and fit back into an 8..then I am happy with that. I just want to FEEL good about myself...numbers never meant a thing to me.

My dad used to call me Jan or Jannie. My husband ressurected "Jannie" sevreal years ago, and now a lot of people call me that. (Oh, and a size 8 or even 10 at 5'9"- seriously- that's great!)

Don't get me wrong, 30 pounds in 6 months *is* possible, I don't doubt that at all. And it also sounds like a reasonable and healthy time span to lose it (Good day, yo-yo)

But you already pointed out the difference, Amber - she was perhaps already exercising and eating well. Oils *are* making a difference, it is often recommended you use sesame/olive/coconut etc. oil rather than margarine or butter because the lipids are used better by your body. What I did *not* believe is the claim that she did nothing but use coconut oil. If you eat too much and/or the wrong things you can use as much coconut oil as you want - it won't make you slim. It just reminded me a bit of these commercials for magical weight-loss belts and fat-burning teas - "And even though I ran 20 miles a day I even gained ten pounds, but then... Karen, I swear to God, I only drank my Supernova Bye Bye Weight Tea twice a day and sixty pounds were gone in 10 days"
