Cyndi & Heart fans

How I missed this when it aired, I don't know. Lifetime's "Girls & Guitars" special. Anyone know when it was on TV? A few years ago? Many years ago? Anyway, I thought this was absolutely incredible.

strandinthewind 07-08-2006 11:31 PM

Ann Wilson has one of the best voices I have ever heard and it has changed little in 30 years. Has anyone ever heard her vocal on Unchained Melody

Sadly, she looks horrifying in this clip.

I know. I think she's beautiful no matter what weight she's at, yet she always does these odd things with her hair that make her look ridiculous. And the hippie sunglasses. Oy.

Brwn_eyes0511 07-08-2006 11:41 PM

jesus christ.. the hair!!!!!

shebop 07-08-2006 11:46 PM

I actually was at the taping of this! They do the show as a benefit for breast cancer every year - this year it was Melissa Etheridge.
I think this one was 3 years ago - it was amazing - Cyndi actually took over
the show at one point coaching Destiny's Child on harmonies - she was the most professional one there!

carrie721 07-09-2006 01:45 AM

Paula, I believe this aired in 2000. Cyndi's amazing. Y'all just wait until Goldustsongbird sees this thread!

ragandbone 07-09-2006 02:01 AM

That's wild, I was just looking at this the other day! I had just finished reading about how Joni Mitchell came to buy a dulcimer, and how it was tuned for "California"; I found a video of her playing it on YouTube, and there must have been a tag that led me to this Cyndi/Ann video. Cyndi shows off some effortless high notes, and lovely, full lows. I think she has taken really good care of her body and her voice.
It is pretty wild to see Nancy power strumming next to the dulcimer, and Ann's hair is unreal!

"Maybe I'm amazed at the way your hair is 2 feet high."

sparky 07-09-2006 02:41 AM

Wow. Cool. Thanks for posting ! Ann's hair could make Marge Simpson jealous. Somehow I missed her mile high bouffant phase.

xdreamsunwindx 07-09-2006 02:44 AM

Christ, Ann looks like a bloated Elvira in that clip. And I love her, but man, that hair :[

I enjoyed that, though. That song will always be awesome.

Dude. Ann is a bloated Elvira. Since about 1985. God Bless Her. One of the best singers alive.

that was INCREDIBLE:nod: ...thanx for choking me up this morning!!! ~

jannieC 07-09-2006 01:19 PM

They both are amazing. I saw Cyndi Lauper when she opened for Cher several years ago and truthfully, she stole the show. And as far as Ann goes- amazing. But you HAVE to listen with your eyes closed because holy sh*t, the HAIR! Wtf was she thinking, bless her heart?

Lee 07-09-2006 01:34 PM

Yeah, I have this show on tape somewhere. The whole show was really good.

Lee :)

Thanks for playing, even with my typo that messed up the rhyme.

Livia 07-09-2006 03:40 PM

One of my favorite songs ever! Thanks for posting!

Wow, Ann Wilson reminds me of Divine in Hairspray!

goldustsongbird 07-09-2006 05:13 PM

 I agree, Ann looks ridiculous. I just posted the other video of them singing Water's Edge from the same show: http://youtube.com/watch?v=yQJ3g2PFLi4

Beautiful!

Their voices are well matched - their sizes, not so.

ragandbone 07-09-2006 06:13 PM

Wow! I just watched the performance of "Crazy On You" from this show. Good Lord, Ann just sounds so F#$cking amazing, and the slowed down beginning really shows off her voice.
Can I put this link even though Cyndi doesn't show up? Is that a threadjacK?

I love Ann dearly, and have for 30 years ! Her hair though, it has really run the gamut over the years. This Marge Simpson thing might be the ultimate.

 Here, I'll post a solo Cyndi video to even it out. We'll both be threadjacking, then.

(sidenote, doesn't Jan Pulsford - the blonde lady in the hat at the keyboard - look like Stevie, just at a glance? I've always thought she was working a Stevie look. Maybe it's just the hair)

Haha. 80s hair is never not funny.

Seriously, though?

Hey thanks! The keyboard lady really does look like Stevie, when she smiles in profile.
I love that Cyndi is has brought the dulcimer into the limelight. I also love that someone in her band is playing a Melodica.

I feel I need to say something about Cyndi's hair and look in the Girls and Guitars performance. 101 Dalmations. She looks like Cruella. A fabulous Cruella.

Has anyone seen that Joni Mitchell tribute that was aired like 3-4 years ago? I can't remember exactly what or where it was (I think I saw it on Bravo) but Cyndi did a version of "Carey" that made me weep! It was absolutely stunning. I'm going to try to find it...

Yeah, I love Ann Wilson to death, but she is in serious need of a fashion makeover. She has beautiful shiny, black hair. Why oh why does she subject it to such punishment? Nancy's still a major hottie. My husband's in love with her.

You'll have to rescue me from the Grand Canyon first! Dude, JP is hot. I wish she still toured with Cyn. Apparently they're not on good terms anymore.

That's too bad. She looks kinda like Jill Sobule in that picture, don't you think? I heart In the Cool, Cool, Cool of Evening, too ... It's the version from that Bette Midler sings the Rosemary Clooney Songbook album. *Sends you Rosanne* I really like her stuff!

skcin 07-10-2006 12:36 PM

Girl loves the high hair. Top of head ponytail for the show I saw last March:

Golddustsongbird - I saw Cyndi a couple of years back on the At Last tour, I should try to dig up the pics I took....

I didn't see that, but I would love to. I am going to see if perhaps it was released on DVD. Carey is another dulcimer song, I think, did Cyndi play dulcimer on the song? Doh! I see Carrie posted it. I will look now - thanks!
p.s. I love Nick Cave.

Jill? Yeah, I could see that. *downloads Rosie on the other comp* Oh, I got Penguin, too! I just need to listen to it...

JazmenFlowers 07-10-2006 07:20 PM

Ann is a goddess. truly.

I was so excited when I heard Cyndi was opening for Cher, but then something happened in the desert, something broke the...oh wait...wrong forum...depending on which rumor you believe, Cyndi stopped touring with Cher and there was some cockamamey comedian at my show. I was bummed.
