Taste of Buffalo

One of the highlights of my summer every year. Ours is the second largest in the U.S., second only to Chicago.

http://www.tasteofbuffalo.com/

I am ridiculously full after gorging today with a friend. We split most stuff, each had 2 beers. We spent about $40 between us total.

Here's the rundown:

Cajun chicken strips with jack blue cream sauce *** (the sauce was bland, but the chicken was good & spicy)

Buffalo wing burger ** (a bit dull - I mean, it was spicy, but it was basically a burger with hot pepper cheddar cheese & blue cheese dressing on it)

Artichokes gratinee *** (a bit more cheese would have made this a 4 star)

Shrimp & artichokes in sambuca cream sauce **** (very interesting combo, and the sambuca didn't overpower other flavors at all)

Crab rangoon *** (good, but nothing special)

Thai marinated flank steak w/sweet & sour slaw **** (the marinade was really good, kind of sweet. the steak was so tender.)

Sauteed asian tiger shrimp w/ smoked bacon salsa ***** (my fave of the day. tasted just like it sounds)

Chocolate dipped pineapple macaroon ***** (very original, very big, very fantastic)

Smile cookie *** (had to spend my last 2 tickets - good soft chexy moist cookie. with a smiley face.)

Grand Marinier chocolate covered strawberries ***** (sweet jeebus, these were good.)

Do they have "Taste of" things where you guys live? Was it Rickypt who gave us his list of foods last time? Jyqm? I can't recall. Anyway, if you've never been to one, I highly recommend it. And if anyone ever wants to visit Buffalo, I highly recommend you come the weekend after 4th of July, that's when it's always held. :wavey:

Well, it's official. I've started one too many threads about food & you've all had enough. Well, before I go I just want you to know that I have pie today. And it was great.

amber 07-09-2006 05:46 PM

Sorry, I've never been to a "taste of..."

sara1998 07-09-2006 06:25 PM

Jesus, Paula, are you still gushing about your food????

skcin 07-09-2006 08:02 PM

Amby - that's too bad. You're really missing out.

Maria - yes, yes I am.

Thanks for the pity replies! :wavey:

Whatev. Maybe I won't be staying with you if I make it to Cali, you'll probably make me eat good healthy food.

Seriously, that's the fun of it. Eating stuff you wouldn't normally eat. It's a treat, an opportunity to try new things. I don't eat like that every day (well, except for the beer ;) )

Yes indeed. Food is such a passion with me. Too bad my waistline doesnt like it.

Ah food (slurp). I think that buffalo wing burger would've been better breaded and fried with buffalo sauce on it. I know, really decadent, but that's the way to do it IMO!

They have a the Taste of MN every July as well, usually around the 4th with fireworks every night...the whole shebang. Not a bad way to spend an evening, and watching all of the fanny pack-clad Nordics wandering about with BBQ sauce on their chins is a sight to behold.

The best part is all of the free music. They usually get some pretty big names to play a show. Blondie was here on the Camp Funtime 2002 tour, and there have been others. I think Alice Cooper was here for this year's Taste.

Sounds wild. Ain't nothing like a throng of pasty white people gorging on fattening food .

I don't know if there's a taste of Austin. We have a hot sauce festival every year though .

I remember at the end of the Blondie show Debbie came out and did Heart Of Glass and it was pouring, but they kept on singing!

It was pouring during the last few songs, and she was soaked. She loved it though, and so did the crowd. I got a roll of good pics out of it too.

Ive actually never been to this, despite living so close to it. Every year I see footage of it on the news and say, amybe next year, but I never do:laugh:

Yeah, and her BF is cuter than her and I wanted to steal him. Do you think she reads minds? Maybe that's why she hates me.

Thx. I went thru a phase where I was like, "That's it, I'm sick of this fake hello with the 'I hate you' undertones." and I stopped talking to her. But that was even worse so now we're back to the phony "Hi" or even just a "Umg".
