Rock Star-Supernova
Who's watching? So far, the girls are kicking the boys butts, imo. Although I didn't care much for Jenny.
Gotta give it up for the homegirl, Patrice Pike (she's the one who did Somebody to Love). She's been around the local scene a long time, I hope she does well, she deserves it. |

I am!! I only got to see the last half though. Lukas scares the hell outta me, but he was really really good. I cant wait to see an entire show, then I'll make my picks.
|
I'm going to vote for some of them but I can't remember their names. :o The girl that did the Nirvana song is scary. I liked the guy from Australia and the girl that sang first. I didn't care for the Puerto Rican girl's voice but she had stage presence. The girl that did Janis reminded me just a tad too much of Pamela Anderson.
|
Dilana, Jill and Matt like FM:

So far I'm not into any of the singers unlike last year when I loved Jordis right from the start. I thought a lot of them sucked. The guy doing "Roxanne" was one of the worst things I've ever heard. I thought Dana (I think) who did Melissa Etheridge has a good voice. The Nirvana chick was creepy.

Exactly. I love that crazy bitch, she's exactly what they need. I didn't watch last season, but happened to turn it on last night. Ended up voting for Dilana, Storm, Lukas & the little blond chick that did Janis. The guy who mauled Roxanne should go. Like, now. The other boys were OK, but nothing special. The Puerto Rican girl is gorgeous, and has a nice voice, but it was obvious that she was way out of her range with the Evanesence tune. I don't think she's good enough. |

How mortifying for that Roxanne dude....but he deserved it. That was just....painful. Buh-bye.

I love this show and happy it's back. I agree that the women were much better than the guys. Although I like Ryan. Dave Navarro still bugs the f*ck out of me, though. |

I used to go to Sister7 shows on 6th St. with some lesbian friends. They were all about The Patrice. She has certainly changed (in 10 years). Still sounds great tho. It's a shame she never got more support - that band had some great songs. As for the show ... meh. The band said several times they were looking for "nasty" and "dirty", and the only one who really fit that bill was the last guy Lukas (?). |
Lukas was the only talented guy of the night...we'll see what happens, though. I think I lot of the boys were really nervous, first night jitters...
Yeah, I've always liked Sister7...the badass player from that band (Derrell?) plays with the Dirty Wormz now. I like them too. :) |
I'm not sure how much stock I put into this years contest. At least INXS was an established band. Who knows though, we'el see.

I really didn't want to watch this again because I could care less about any band with Tommy Lee in it, but I got sucked back in though I don't for how long. There's a person there from close to where I live; he's from Ocean City, MD; I think his name is Phillip. He was in the bottom three last night, & I hate to say it, but I can see why. He's not very good. Anyway, I fell asleep at the end, so I'm not sure who left. I'm not sure of all their names yet either. I did like the girl with the guitar. I don't know why, but she reminded me of Sheryl Crow. And I like the guy that sang after her on Wednesday, not sure of his same. Everyone is just so strange looking; so many tattoos. Could they pick a stranger group? Oh well, maybe one of them will fit in with "Supernova".
Lee :) |

and don't hate on Navarro...he makes my motors run. |
Quote:
You know! He's kind of dirty, and wears makeup, and has a small build. But I think he's sexy as hell. Of course, I used to think Tommy Lee was sexy before he had hepatitis, so.... I do love the dirtbags. |
Navarro IS hot! He and Carmen Elektra must make their bed linens ignite!
I love the bad boy eye candy!! |
I find Navarro to be a phony dirtbag, which is why I don't like him.
I'm having trouble getting into this season of Rockstar. Last year was sort of fun because it brought back INXS nostalgia and I got to look at JD twice a week. The contestants were also a lot more interesting last year, in my opinion. Lukas is obviously setting himself up as the aggressive and competitive "bad boy", a la JD Fortune. Dilana still frightens me, but my money is on her already. What was that guy thinking doing a Duran Duran song? Is it just a coincidence that the entire front row is filled with pretty young chicks with huge knockers? And I guess I'm really getting quite old, but I find this kind of "dialogue" to be close to intolerable: Navarro: "Dude, what's up" Dude: "Chillin'" Navarro: "Right on, dude. So, any regrets about last night's performance, man?" Dude: "Nah, I gotta be me, and rock and roll is all about being yourself, know what I mean?" Navarro: "Right on. It's rock and roll dude". |

Ever hear Kathy Griffin's take on Tommy? She says she just looked at him across the room & he gave her crabs. |

I always thought Tommy Lee was a perfect gentleman to everyone on that Back to School show he did.
|
This season of contestants are freaks. I wouldn't pay to see them live or buy an album. I'm not impressed.

Magni-My Generation-good, most improved performer compared to last week.
Jenny-Tainted Love-meh-I found her eye make-up distracting - cracked up when Dave told her she looked starving and to eat a sammich. Jill-Violet-she sucked!! And Dave was right, how could anyone NOT know that album cover? I also felt that Jill was copying Dilana's manic performance from last week. Like she was thinking, "Oh, that's what they like? Okay, I'll do that." Wrong! Zayra-You Really Got Me-I keep wanting her to do a Pretenders song, w/ that haircut she has. She sucked. And insulting the band was a bad idea. She probably thought Van Halen wrote it... Chris-Take Me Out-he should have been taken out last week. Hate him. Dilana-Ring of Fire-loved it-loved her outfit-but I keep hearing Marianne Faithful whenever she opens her mouth. She's got a unique look, but I want more from her singing. I think she'll make the top 3, since the band seems to adore her, and she would be a good fit. Josh-Arms Wide Open-bleech. He does nothing for me. Phil-If You Could Only See-see comment above re: Josh. I don't get why the band likes him so much either. He also needs to eat a sammich. Storm-Surrender-I liked it, and totally agreed w/ the band re: the Broadway comments. She needs to quit making the cheesy facial expressions. Patrice-Heart Shaped Box-Major points for playing the guitar. Despite the botched lyrics, the band loves her, she's got nothing to worry about. Did she really f*ck up or was her mike f*cked up? I was out of the room for a few seconds. Ryan-Jumpin' Jack Flash-Nothing "rocker" about him to me. He screamed the end, and was off-key as well. He looks like Jerry Seinfeld's brother, not a rock star. Dana-Born to Be Wild-she can sing, but she's too young. And dressing up like a rocker doesn't make you one. Lukas-Coldplay song-He took a risk w/ the ballad-esque song choice. He nailed it. He'll make the top 3, despite the mongloid look and huge forehead he's got going on... Toby-Killers song-good voice, good stage presence, but I'm just not picturing him in Supernova. Sorry... I'm voting for: Patrice, Lukas, Storm and Dilana. Just like last week....maybe I'll throw a bone to Magni as well. Check out this video of Patrice's version of Joey: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...=915684616&n=2 |
I loved Dilana tonight. The band is getting a little tougher on the contestants. I thought they were a bit rough on the girls. I liked Zayra's performance too. I'm sure she'll have a career.
|
I just finished watching the reality footage on rockstar.msn.com.
It's worse than I thought: Zayra had never heard of "You Really Got Me." Ever. During rehearsals, the house band thought she sucked. They don't care much for Chris either. There's also footage of Jill fawning all over Dilana, "I love the way you perform, it's very inspiring." So inspiring that she stole her act. |
Thanks for the recap, Livia. I'm pissed that I missed it (stupid f*cking Tivo, I can't keep track of what I want to record when & it taped Kathy Griffin....hey wait - was Rockstar on at 8 or 9? Cuz if it was on at 8, something's screwy with my Tivo....)
OK, anyway. I'll have to find vid of Dilana doing Ring of Fire. I adore that song, it inadvertantly became our wedding song (long story...) Do they post the performances on the website? I love that freaky bitch. Violet - the Hole song? Fantastic song. But Jill - isn't she the tiny blond? Hmmm.... Surrender - the Cheap Trick tune? That's cool, I like Storm. |
I'm not sure this show will keep my attention. I'm not really finding any of the peeps to keep my interest, except Toby.
like Curtis said, they are all freaks...like...all of them. it's like Hot Topic exploded. |
Paula, it's on at 9 Eastern/8 Central. You can see everyone's performances on rockstar.msn.com. Click "vote," roll your mouse over their faces to get the pop-up menu and then watch. I normally use Mozilla, but Explorer works better for me on that site. They also have the reality clips posted, all the stuff that goes on at the mansion. About 20 minutes worth for each week.
They keep all the performances up throughout the season too. :wavey: |
I actually liked Dilana this week. Storm, Patrice, Lukas, and Toby also did ok. I still think Dana has a good voice but she's just not a fit for the band. The rest of the group basically suck.
My prediction is that Zayra will go tonight. She was just awful and rude. |
I missed the first show, but watched last night. From what I heard they all pretty much suck. I will probably continue to watch just for the Dave and Tommy eyecandy. Loved Tommy calling that guy a bitch due to the lack of Mick "moves."
|
I really wanted to enjoy the show this year, but I am finding it almost intolerable.
Last year's gang had character and personality. As did the INXS guys. This year, everyone is cold and plastic. Dilana was awesome and I would just cancel the season and give her the gig. It's amazing what an influence Stevie continues to have. If there were no Stevie, that performance would have been completely different. Toby is handsome and talented and makes a good runner-up. Phil would have made a good candidate for the INXS job. Outside of that, I felt like I was watching karaoke. Were these really the best 15 out of the auditions? |

OK, I was able to see half of the performances (for some reason it only gave me half of them.) I still like Dilana, but wasn't blown away. It was more the arrangement that I disliked rather than her. Her performance was extremely Stevie-esque, in a good way.
Jill - WTF. Not a good idea to totally copy/imitate the original artist. Love Violt, love Hole, but she wasn't great. I also caught Patrice & Storm, both pretty good. Zayra sucked. The boys I saw were not very memorable. |

Has this been mentioned yet? It's a crappy name anyway..
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories...07-11-21-29-23 Band Sues CBS Show Over Supernova Name By SANDY COHEN AP Entertainment Writer Jul 11, 9:29 PM EDT LOS ANGELES (AP) -- What happens when two Supernovas collide? Lawsuit. A Southern California rock band called Supernova has filed a complaint against Mark Burnett's CBS reality show "Rock Star: Supernova," saying it had the name first. The complaint, filed June 27 in U.S. District Court, claiming unfair competition and trademark infringement, seeks to bar the show and its participants from using the Supernova name. It is also asks for compensatory and punitive damages. "Our clients believe they have the superior right on the mark Supernova," the band's attorney, John Mizhir, told The Associated Press Tuesday, adding that the band "has a long-standing common-law trademark right to the mark." The group first performed under the name Supernova in 1991, according to the lawsuit. The band released several singles and three full-length albums under the name, the lawsuit says. The CBS show using the name first aired July 5. "Rock Star: Supernova" follows 15 contestants who aspire to become the lead singer of Supernova, a new rock band that includes former Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke and former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted. The winner will tour with the band and appear on its album. According to the lawsuit, representatives for Mark Burnett Productions ("Survivor," "The Apprentice") filed seven U.S. trademark applications for the name Supernova and two for "Rock Star: Supernova." Gary Hecker, an attorney for Mark Burnett Productions, said the company has the legal right to the name. "The complaint is without merit," he said. © 2006 The Associated Press. |
