Best Pizza

Check your city (sorry, I think it's U.S. cities only) and see if you agree. The Buffalo list looks about right.

http://local.msn.com/special/results...a.asp?GT1=8226

BTW - I prefer my pizza with a soft thick crust, minimal sauce & loads of cheese. Toppings - mushrooms or pepperoni or both. Occasionally steak or banana peppers. NEVER onions or olives. I like specialty pizzas too (a place near me makes kickass 3 cheese steak and chicken cordon bleu pizzas) but I prefer traditional.

Americans have the most disgusting pizzas I have ever seen - they look like a slab of bread with cheese and tomato paste spread on top - yuck...

gldstwmn 06-22-2006 04:06 PM

I like my pizza with a thin crust. I've never heard of the place that's number one but have had a bunch of others on the list.

Good Lord, where did you see this pizza? Sounds horrible!

How does pizza in NZ differ?

DrummerDeanna 06-22-2006 04:12 PM

Well the Albuquerque one is bogus - I'd put their #5 at number one - but then again, it happens to be my favorite place ever.

I had to leave the site because the pictures of the pizzas are making me SOOO hungry. I still have two hours until dinner and I don't want to snack...grrr...

Pizza in NZ has alot of toppings - it is just alot more full of stuff than usual...

Here is a NZ site with what pizzas look like in general - now compare them to american pizzas...

I like my pizza a little greasy, with thinnish crust, pepperoni (crispy edges are best) and black olives. And luckily we have a place right here in town that makes it exactly the way I love it. :D

Livia 06-22-2006 04:32 PM

My favorite (Austin's Pizza) came in at #7 on this list...I've never heard of the joint that got #1, but maybe I should try it...I love all kinds of pizza (traditional pepperoni, ham and pineapple, veggie, whatever). My favorite at the moment is the Meditteranean from Austin's Pizza (really thin crust, sliced roma tomatoes, purple onion, artichoke hearts, black olives and feta cheese). Dipped in ranch dressing, of course, cuz that's how we do pizza in Texas.

Serrart 06-22-2006 04:59 PM

American pizza for Italians is quite an alien. Do you also eat it as we do? Very thin (the crust is usually high though, but it depends by the pizza maker), no dressings added, few ingredients (even if lately this is changing, definitely never pineapple  )? Something like this?

I'm like Pavlov's dog when it comes to pizza. I only need to hear the word (or read the word!) and my stomach starts growling.

No one believes me when I say that I could eat nothing but pizza for the rest of my life, and love every minute of it.

Janet 06-22-2006 06:50 PM

I find pizza talk funny.

I manage a Dominos Pizza. NO one will EVER say it's the best pizza...it's just the most convienient pizza.

Now with our Pick 6 Deal...things are picking up.

We have a good thin crust tho...with bacon and pineapple it's actually yummy.

DavidMn 06-22-2006 07:39 PM

I'm a deep dish guy all the way.

That looks delicious. And that is exactly how I like my pizza.

Dude, Pizza Hut pizza is Pizza Hut pizza. NZ specialty pizzas look just like US specialty pizzas.

Im well aware of that - but those are not specialty pizzas - they are normal. Anyway, Im quite sure there is a difference in the way pizza is made in different countries....

Yeah, by "specialty" pizzas, I just meant a pizza that has a name and comes a certain way ... one you don't choose the toppings for. Anyway, I don't really wanna argue about pizza, since I love it so. :D

Really? I'm with Johnny Stew - I could eat only pizza for the rest of my life and be completely content. It's actually been a long time for me since I last had it ... 2 weeks?

littlecricket2 06-22-2006 11:44 PM

OMG, I am a pizza fiend! (And I'm supposed to be going to bed soon--now I'll most likely go to bed hungry and dream about pizzas! LOL)

I'm from Chicago, where deep dish pizza is done right! I like 3 of the top 5 choices for deep dish pizza: Giordano's, Gino's East, and Lou Malnati's. There are other locations besides just the one address they list--all are chains. I'm going to have to say "hell no" to Home Run Inn pizza though. The list was obviously not compiled by a true Chicagoan, because I've heard their pizza is nasty--although, maybe people from the South Side are partial to it. Taylor Street pizza is also quite popular in these parts (although perhaps more in the suburbs than in the city), and I didn't see it on the list. I haven't been to any other places on the list, except Connie's, which is pretty good from what I remember.

I honestly haven't met too many pizzas I didn't like though, lol. I'll even go for California Pizza Kitchen; I love all their specialty pizzas.

Pffft. Mangia has the best pizza in Austin. It's deep dish stuffed deliciousness! :p

Has anyone ever had a fried egg on top of their pizza? I've heard about this and am curious to know if it's any good.

Cici's ... like the buffet/self-serve type place?

OH my God---Cici's is vile  Seriously - I've only been twice - but I got violently ill both times...yuck.

I just had pizza for lunch...Salvatore's, which is a pizza chain here in Rochester. It's not great -but it's definitely not bad - but like others have said, I don't think I've met a pizza I didn't like (except Cici's :p)

DavidMn 06-23-2006 01:50 PM

There's a place here in Minneapolis called Davanni's that has the best deep dish!

I'm a pizza addict, we have great slices at our cafeteria in the office. Really! I had a shrimp scampi pizza tonight from around the corner. It was very good, but it really should have had garlic on it. I mean, hello! Still, it really was good.

toppings? you want toppings?

you (or your friends) shoulda gone to RED LION Pizza and gotten a "garbage can" pizza. all the toppings you could ever want. And California is famous for putting more toppings (like including more VEGGIES) on their pizzas.....

my fave pizza from a chain is Mountain Mikes pizza. The sauce is KEY. Crust is crust and most people dont eat all the crust anyway....and I especially like Calzones....which are like a folded over pizza with meat/sauce/other fillings...
ah well......all I can really afford is KMART Little Ceasars anyway!
