in the future you dont need to do more than check in and search the website of DIME once a week to keep your account active...You dont need to torrent a show to stay active.

nodmod 06-11-2006 05:03 AM

Would be nice that when the DIME members get TP Charlotte show downloaded, can they seed on http://www.throwndown-videos.net/bt/ for the members who cannot access DIME.

We really need to respect the no MP3 rule that the taper has requested :)

We must make sure we get the other TP shows posted on DIME and not give the traders an excuse not to post them by ripping the lossless files to MP3

StreetAngel86 06-11-2006 06:11 AM

i prefer Mp3s too
i don't care wot kinda quality they are
but 700+ meg is going to kill my computer
and......i have dial up LOL it will only take 2 days to download
but that's ooright

10% and getting there LOL

oh......and for those of you wanting to get a dime account
GOOD LUCK  i've been waiting over a year to get a place GRR
but I care and share with a friend in the meantime :D

gldstwmn 06-11-2006 02:09 PM

I just ripped the first CD and this show is really nicely done. Props to the taper.

Same here. :( Does it need three months to register again?

CALL ME STUPID, whats the damn difference between having a show on DIME and having the MP3s posted here or another site? Isn't DIME all MP3s too? Most of us can't log into DIME. Its all under the table bootleging, like DIME is more classier than another avenue.

no, you don't have to wait three months, but it can be hard to get in. i just kept checking the registration page a couple times a day and got in after a day or two.

No, the stuff on Dime is NOT mp3s, it's torrents. Much better quality, much clearer sound.

no, mp3's are lossy and there is no lossy material allowed on dime. you can only torrent lossless audio on dime (usually flac files). they're not trying to keep these shows relegated to dime, they're just trying to maintain the quality of the sound.

EDIT: whoops, yeah, what paula said! ;)

Mageboy25 06-11-2006 05:23 PM

Well until EVERYONE can log into DIME, like anyone can watch everything on youtube....I say screw DIME and put the show on other websites:)!

The thing that confuses me about dime/bit torrent is that a lot of the Fleetwood stuff up there has lost a lot of its dynamic range because it has been duped from cassette to cassette for many years, in some cases. The loss of dynamic range going from cassette to cassette is much greater than it is going electronically from WAV/flac to high-bitrate MP3.

The other thing is that there's no way of knowing whether what is "lossless" today (for example, in WAV or flac format) was in MP3 format generations ago. You can certainly use a freeware program like CDex to convert from MP3 into WAV, but you're certainly not gaining anything in dynamic range.

To me, as far as I can tell, the usefulness of remaining lossless on Dime is only in select cases: when the guy who tapes the show on a cassette converts that audio directly into WAV/flac & then uploads it to Dime, where it stays in WAV/equivalent lossless.

But for old, old shows--like Fleetwood Mac at the ... whatever ... Irvine Meadows 1982--shows which have been passed around in every possible format, losing more & more dynamic range with each analog dubbing, bit torrent is pretty much worthless. UNLESS you can find the master copy & then upload that without compressing the signal to a torrent. But how often does THAT happen? Not often, I gather.

The show is now posted on Thrown Down
- http://www.throwndown-videos.net/bt/

where everyone can access it in lossless form

it's true that the restrictions on lossy audio may not be useful for older shows (not only because of dubbing but also because many recorders had a limited dynamic range to begin with), but for newer shows, it's nice to have a place where you can get lossless recordings. the new shows are almost always converted to wavs without any dubbing.

I can give you a copy at the Mansfield show. Let me know.

skcin 06-12-2006 11:11 AM

Dammit! :( I got onto Dime, but my upload keeps stopping at about 25%. I'm trying again while I'm at work, so we'll see if it worked when I get home. If not, I'll give Throwndown a go tonight.

Janis_no1 06-12-2006 07:43 PM

Wldhrt315 06-12-2006 11:13 PM

Playing

So I downloaded these files and they are coded in flac file extension. I read up in another thread about flac but my question is....do I need to convert this file into something else, i.e. .wav, in order to play it at all?

What exactly is the quickest and most self explanatory process for me to transfer these files into a format that allows me to play in either Windows Media, Itunes or Winamp?

This show is just sitting on my computer and I am salavating trying to figure how to play it. Grrr!

It probably doesn't help that I am new to this. However DIME let me create a login after only 2 attempts. Easy enough!

skcin 06-13-2006 09:23 AM

Well, Dime got stuck again, but I was finally able to get the whole show from TD.net.

Tiffany, go to www.dbpoweramp.com and download the music converter. From there you can rip the .flac files to .wav and can burn them to a CD and play them on your computer.
