What Stevie Album Is In Your CD Player The Most
It doesn't mean that it is your favourite Stevie album - but what Stevie album is in your player the most?
Mine would be "Other Side of the Mirror" - Im always listening to it - even though it is nowhere near my favourite. |
umm. None?
I do have this bizarre urge to listen to Timespace right now, though. |

"Well, I've run through rainbows and castles of candy..."
Gawd, I hate this song. |

It may not be one of Stevie's best - but it is still an okay song! |

It's all good though, "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" is on now. |

Ooops.
I'm really into Wild Heart on my record player right now. I listen to it most mornings in my shower/get ready phase. And it's prime on my ishuffle. I just got it last year, too, and I didn't like it much at first, so it's really fresh and fun for me to get into it. |
Once again, iTunes knows all, though I haven't been listening to Stevie albums as albums of late. The Stevie songs that I've played the most since September:
5 plays - If Anyone Falls 4 plays - Violet And Blue, Sleeping Angel, Stand Back, Planets Of The Universe 3 plays - Silent Night, After The Glitter Fades, Edge Of Seventeen (live), Gold And Braid (live), I Can't Wait, Rock A Little (Go Ahead Lily), I Sing For The Things, Wild Heart, Enchanted, Fall From Grace |

But you may not be - I have to study each one individually at different times, which may or may not mean that I love it. And I like that Angel was on your other list, I would not have guessed that either. Angel is a huge favorite of mine, for the bassline, and just the general kicky happiness. Also, the vocal is much more innovative or difficult than it first appears to be. In general that song is more complex than it appears, IMO. A nice ledgie just sent me Violet and Blue (In addition to Gold and Whenever I Call You Friend, both of which I have been seriously jonesing for - I sold Enchanted like, five years ago) - and V and B is interesting because its band, it's synth/guitar hook (the beginning stuff), is actually more compelling than the vocal - When it starts I think "oh, this song is rad!" then as the vocal and the rest of the music comes out, it settles into "pretty good". I can't speak about the lyrics at this time, as I don't really know them. I've heard others are very fond. I always like Gold and Braid, and Rock a Little is a sublime curio, to me. At first I didn't like it, then I fell under the spell of its subtle and unusual charms. It's quite strange, really. The instrumentals in it are very moody, and of course the vocal is - I've come to respect it in addition to liking it. I almost respect it more than liking it. No, probably equal. But you see my point. |

But it's just a coincidence that it's at the top of my list. I haven't listened to any Stevie albums as albums in a long time. "If Anyone Falls" just happens to be the song that has come up most when I've listened to Stevie on shuffle. Actually, I expect to get yelled at for having listened to so little Stevie in the past nine months that my most played song has only been played a whopping five times. |

But I get it about the shuffle. I didn't really expect you to have FM/Stevie at the top of your listening list. I like that rhythm of the vocal as well (the one you described above) and the band parts there are perfect. Especially after/during "Anything! Like You!" - the band punctuation there is just great. And even when I didn't like the song, I liked "Shadows! *pow!* Shadows! *pow!* Shadows against the wah-all!" You know, I'm coming to realize that an important part of Stevie's talent is her sense of rhythm. How weird. I mean, I always heard it, but I didn't always notice it as a special thing. But it is a special thing. Stevie is like a jazz singer of rock. Which isn't an invite for you to compare her to actual jazz singers, it's just an invite for you to think about her unusual rhythms within the rock construct. Sublime. Just like Linds is an unusual musician instrumentally within the pop construct. Even Linds said her sense of rhythm is extra. |

TISL is always in my cd player. Generally I don't listen to the albums anymore....I OWN THEM ALL A COUPLE OF TIMES OVER but my favorite versions are generally not what appeared on the albums...(maybe Buckingham Nicks being an exception because its very nature is much like a demo or outtake  ). I think partly because demo's and outtakes require active listening from me and I can’t just have them playing in the back ground while I chit chat with my friends; they distract me, I want to really listen for whatever reason or endlessly explain them to death to who ever is around. TISL is kind of like a touch stone for me too because I was soooo freakin' happy she finally released new music and well for me I was just sooo glad it didn’t suck .My favorite albums (or more approprietly era's) shift depending on my mood and what 'Stevie drama' I'm groovin on at the moment. I prefer bootleg versions to every song that appears on that album but I think it is a very solid effort and a very honest reflection of that period of her life. Down deep I’m still relieved and kind-a weirdly proud of her for being able to deliver a solo album after everything and that she did it sober. I can (and do) nit-pick on some things like Crowes production and Stevie voice or lyric choices, but over all it remains a very listenable album to me. I can also have that album playing and still function outside the music if you get my drift…… |

Lately it has been mostly TISL, but overall I would say it's a toss up between that one and Bella Donna. I have WH in my car stereo, but since that bitch doesn't drive properly, I don't drive long distances with it anymore, I am saving up to buy a new one.
But, I put a cd together with all my favourite demos a long time ago, and I play that one just as often as TISL and BD, but I guess that doesn't count? |

And I cherish that element of suprise and variety more than anything about this band. I really believe it can't be repeated. Thank god everyone and their mother apparently wanted to record this band. I can't believe the media they got before video. And after. I have to admit, I give stevie a bit of extra credit for that. No, I'm not saying she's better or more important, I'm saying she's prettier and more willing to talk to the press and be filmed. Geesh, has anyone ever had more interviews? Even interviewers describe her as being "chatty". And she never has ever never stopped touring and doing press. People write her off sometimes, but I think she worked the hardest to sell the band. Not because others didn't want to sell the band, necessarily, but because she was the most well equipped to do it, and she took on that role and just did it. She was pretty, people wanted to talk to her, and film her. She was charming, and chatty, she liked being famous, she like d talking to press, she liked being on camera, she liked to sing at every opportunity. She was different, she embodied a new paradigm, people wanted to see her. She really did love singing, all around, and dancing freely. She would take risks, and "Have Fun With It". ~*~the spyrit of Rock and Roll flowed through her, she felt the strong wynd of the 70's...take me with the sky, bitch.... ~*~ I can seriously imagine her in the animated cast of The Last Unicorn. *beautiful movie/book, if you haven't seen/read it, you are missing out.* Very strange and beautiful. Stevie would be the unicorns in the last scene where because of the Cruel Covetous Castle guy - (who has no Appreciation for Alliteration) - they all fall running tragically into the sea, that changes colors, but that does not change, not really...and then all the beauty is gone, it is left only in the ~*spyrit*~ of the Unicorns that once touched all the land and have now been forced back into the sea - looking up and the sky's on fiyer... Until a time when no doubt, no pain, come ever again now :distress: Oh, people talk about the 70's being the "Me" decade. There was never a greater expression of the Me-ness of all that is "Me" than in a Stevie Nicks song. She is "Me" in one of it's most pure forms, it's 70's "innocent, benevolent, self expressive me" form. I feel like she more than fulfilled her role in the band in that way. If the media made her the pretty one, or people "overrated" her, she always took that, took advantage of it, to help her band, to work for her band. She always transferred her cache willingly to the band. She helped spread the genius of the other members of the band in that way. And they all are geniuses is the best part. You know, I would say with some conviction that she is the hardest working member of FM, if you think about what that really entails('d), and if you look at the product, it is quite an amazing feat all round. End of small snippet of my Stevie/FM thesis. |

But behind the scenes, Mick did a hell of a lot. He fought tooth and nail for the band for many years. (Honourable mention to Bob Welch for his role in defeatin the "fake" Fleetwood Mac.) And in the studio? Obviously Stevie was hardly there at all for Tango, and she didn't spend all that much time at the Mirage sessions, either, but even before then, her role during the recording process was relatively limited. Meanwhile, I can't even imagine the countless hours Lindsey spent behind the board (along with Richard and Ken), turning the band's raw music into such intricate finished products. |
Oh this is a tough one.....
Hmmm i've had a little bit of overkill in my car cd stacker of wild heart... i would have to say that trouble in shangri la seems to come into season more frequently than the others.... Bella donna probably second, though enchanted disc 1 has had some overkill in my car too. The other side of the mirror i've only heard from start to finish maybe 3 times. I would of heard the songs individually but not album start to finish. Last time i listened to it was just before stevie came out, so at the start of feb, which is why on her card i got into her dressing room (along with the flowers etc) i closed the note off by saying "thank you for getting "some ribbons and some bows and getting back out on the road" |
TOSOTM lately, so I can listen before I post the "like or dislike" threads.
|
Lately, it has been a toss up between TISL and Bella Donna. :D
|
I listen to Timespace mostly.
And especially Rooms on Fire, Edge of 17 and Stand Back. I am very traditional:laugh: |
TISL is the ONLY Stevie solo album I'll listen to these days. (all the way through, that is)
I need to make a CDr of my personal faves sometime, but I just don't have the patience (or ACTUAL desire) to tackle such a project. |
Lately, it's been 'Enchanted,' Disc 3.
|
I had TISL in my truck for a bit. Not now. OSOTM was in there earlier in the year so I could hear LWTG and DTBTIC. SA was in the cd player next to my rowing machine a few months back so I could listen to Blue Denim and Kick It, but I let the thing play and after I suffered the combined trauma of Unconditional Love, JLAW, and Jane, I banished it again to the cabinet in the living room. I don't think any of the others have been out of their jewel cases for years.

Overall I'd have to say it's Disc One of Enchanted. Wild Heart and Bella Donna songs put together = pure magic. Why she put Blue Denim on there, I have no idea. It's so out of place.
Another cd that's in quite a bit is a mixed cd that has demos like The Tower, Bella Donna, Sleeping Angel, If You Were My Love...etc. I think it's commonly referred to as Play My Way? Maybe?...I'm not sure, but I just know I love it. |
hmmm...
I don't listen to my cd player much.. it's either XM Satellite radio or my ipod..
Checked my top 30 for Stevie songs.. 6. I Miss You 7. Rhiannon Live - Wild Heart Austin show 10. That Made Me Stronger 14. If I Were you 16. Rooms on Fire 25. Don't Treat Me Like a Stranger 27. Rhiannon (single mix from White album) 30. No Questions Asked sidenote: Hypnotized ranks #4 on my ipod..first FM/Stevie mention.. |
