Soul & R&B of the 1970s--PLEASE HELP

I seem to have misplaced my soul & R&B classics of the '70s. I had about 100 songs!

http://www.funk45.com/scans/brothers...unky_smunk.gif

So I need to start a thread devoted to these CLASSIC soul & R&B tunes of the great 1970s in the hopes of amassing the songs I want again. Please post your soul & R&B favorites in this thread. These songs are perfect for jogging, gym, or just tooling down the highway with the top down (which isn't easy in my nonconvertible).

So please let's all pitch in & create a soulful groove filled with rhythm, blues & songs that just won't quit!!

Can't you include Funk, too?

PARLIAMENT!!!!

Thanks for sharing those songs.
I don't have any classic 70's R&B and soul. I actually don't like much R&B, but I'm sure it was better in the 70's.

Edit - those yousendit links aren't working, just a blank screen. Additionally, I tried to yousend something a few minutes ago, and it directed me to a new yousendit site where you have to register even for a free account.

Of course, I have to mention Midnight Train to Georgia by Gladys Knight & the Pips.

I know these aren't 70s, but I love me some Otis Redding, so I couldn't not post them:

That's How Strong My Love Is

These Arms of Mine

Try a Little Tenderness

Pain in My Heart

WHO'S that Lady?

I prefer '40s, '50s, & '60s R&B.

anything by Teena Marie...

was she in the 70s or 80s? hell, I don't know, but she was fabulous.

I always like Smokey Robinson's Being With You and Cruising Together for soul food. I don't know enough about posting links though. Jermaine Jackson's Do What You Do is smooth too (despite my allergy to the Jackson family generally), I think that was in the '70s.

If anyone has "Apple, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie" by Jay and The Techniques I will love you forever ;)

Hello Everyone.

I offer up these gems:

Rock Your Baby (12" Single) - George McCrae
Rock The Boat - The Hues Corporation
Heaven On The 7th Floor - Paul Nicholas

Enjoy!

Richard, so far "Heaven on the 7th Floor" is my favorite. Unfortunately, the download for "Rock Your Baby" did not work.

I love the Isleys Album Go For Your Guns and my favorite cut is Voyage to Atlantis

and I really like Climbing up the Ladder too

I have a question: Why wont yousendit work?

1. Open www.yousendit.com in your browser.

2. Enter your e-mail address in the Recipient Email Address(es) text field. This will allow YouSendIt to notify you by e-mail that your file has been uploaded to a specific location on the Web.

3. Click the Browse button adjacent to the Select File To Send text field, and locate the file you want to upload.

4. Click the Send It button.

5. In a few minutes (depending on the file size), YouSendIt will send you an e-mail message providing the URL of the file's new location. You can post that URL here.

er...not quite what I had in mind, Jason! :)

er... Think Stevie Wonder or the O'Jays or the Four Tops or Bobby Womack.

Yes of course! I'd love to have my MP3 back of "Starchild (Mothership Connection)"!!
You don't have any Earth Wind & Fire??

I always called it "Who's That Lady" but the real song title appears to be just "That Lady"--that's the way it's printed on all the Isley albums.

Thank you, I sorta bumbled thru and did all of that BUT
now the links they provide arent working??? whats up with that?

btw: can someone please tell me if they can hear the audio files I have linked to my Parental Guidance siggy text and my OTAY siggy text?

I can't post the entire album, but everyone who does not own Superfly needs to go out and buy it RIGHT NOW.

GO!

I don't like Soul Music that much but I do really love "Old School" R&B.

You might want to check out a few of Providence, Rhode Island's own Jeffery Osborne songs.

Here is a link from Amazon.

I can get some XM radio stations on my AOL and I do like to listen to 'The Groove" a lot. When I hear some jammin tunes I will write them down and keep you in mind. I am not too sure if that is the type of music that you are looking for however.

How about "More Bounce :blob1: to the Ounce" by Zapp?

Rock Your Baby should be working now. Not sure WTF happened.

Anyway...enjoy RYB, it's my favorite, but then Heaven On The 7th Floor is great.

Which reminds me I was trapped in an elevator with a red headed cutie. I was singing that song to her and the elevator phone operator while we were trapped. Too fun. Can't say we fell in love but she gave me her number and I never called. Typical me. Too many numbers not enough time.

Rock Your Baby is an old favorite of mine.

Another bubblegummy but irresistible one is the Tavares' "Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel"

Thank you - haven't heard this for many years.

I don't suppose anyone can post a request for me?

It's Soul Finger by the Barkays.

"They must be having trouble getting gigs."

Thanks for this - I have only ever heard "Witch Queen of New Orleans" before.

I'd be happy to help. I have a bunch at home, and I'm at school right now. I'll post several for you this afternoon.

Thank you sweets! :xoxo:

Here are a few to get started with; I have more to put up:

Bad Girl by Donna Summer

Ring My Bell by Anita Ward

Solid by Ashford and Simpson

You Sexy Thing by Hot Chocolate

Le Freak by Chic

1967 and you will love it, David, or else!

Oogum Boogum
Brenton Wood

Hmmm...may be that way on the album, but the 45 is "Who's That Lady?" (parts 1 & 2).

David, did you by chance go to the 70's Soul Jam at the Greek on 6/10?

It's official! I am in love with myself! :]

Rotary Connection was a pshychedelic soul band that never had a big hit song. The most famous member was Minnie Riperton, who went on to solo success.

David

How's that collection coming along?

Minnie Riperton is SNL's Maya Rudolph's mom.

And, it is really telling of the times that a band could release 6 albums on the same label WITHOUT having a "hit single".

Rotary Connection was the first band signed by Marshall Chess, son of Chess Records founder Leonard, when he started working for the label and was trying to steer it towards a more contemporary sound -
they also opened for the Peter Green led Fleetwood Mac on one of the dates of Mac's second American tour in 1968
