I'm sorry to hear about your home. But, please don't ever say it will never get worse, because it can get worse. I always thought it would never be worse then?? and then it did. So, just prepare yourself... life has many suprises.....

Good luck with your situation. I'm sending good karma your way!

dreamongypsydkm 05-08-2006 10:45 AM

I was going to say, I'm sorry that happened and hope there turns out to be a compromise you can live with but....what kind of a thread title is that?

Yes-just what I was thinking.

Try not to panic- at least you have your dad's house and even if you don't have a computer, there are worse things that could happen. I just moved into a new house and I probably won't have the internet for at least a month.

Hang in there and try not to be scared- things can change very quickly. And Maria is right, things could be MUCH worse. I will send good thoughts your way as well. :xoxo:

estranged4life 05-08-2006 11:49 AM

Amen to that...

I understand that and a greater problem doesn't eliminate the reality of a lesser problem, it's all still worthy of attention but I wouldn't believe the age defensive. I've known my fair share of 15 year olds dealing with things no person should have to, infact I've known 10 years olds, 5 year olds and so on who've had to do the same. AGain, no greater problem eliminates a lesser one but the title kind of had me there.

All the best still.

Let me share another story with you that might help. I thought nothing could get worse than when my great aunt died 2 years ago that I was very close to. I attempted suicide a couple months after because I felt so lost and spent a week in the psych ward. But somehow by the grace of god I'm still here.

Hey I'm not trying to belittle anything she's told us, I just found it slightly on the naive side to say "nothing can get worse than this" and it would only serve to help her if she knew that this really isn't the end of the world. I'd hate to see it turn into a competition but some I know, even some who read this board, have to go through things like being kicked out of their homes by parents as young teenagers, witness a parent trying to kill the other, another witness their one parent hang themselves leaving her orphaned, or being raped by parents from the time they were a toddler, and the list goes on. It seems uncomfortable to have to use examples but the point was that you cannot blame someone for be put off a little by the extreme dramatics because as I said, it can be worse, much worse and I wouldn't wish it upon her. She should know that she will manage, humans are clearly capable of coping with the situation. I don't even know her but I'm sure she will be ok.

yes we all know that perhaps things can get worse than this...sometimes it is BITCH and unfort for others its mosttimes a BITCH...however life lessons while easy to advise on are also learned the hardway...i doubt you focusing on her word choice will help matters on her end at this time. i took the title of the thread as an expression 'nothing could get worse than this' and im not sure who you youve hung with or hang with but its an expression that is unfort used often when chit happens...when i hear this i imagine ones arms/hands in the air seeking the heavens as to why out of frustration...i suppose they could say 'nothing could get better than this' but that would hardly make sense...no doubt someone somewhere would find that an odd word choice as well.

Hang in there, Caitlin. I hope everything works out for you and your family.

jadegypsy 05-08-2006 03:08 PM

Hey there,
Try not to worry too much I'm sure you will have somewhere to live, and yeah this seems huge right now but always remember the material things in this world can be replaced, it's the immaterial things (people, etc) that can't be and those are the true losses.

A couple quotes for you:

"You have five minutes to wallow in the delicious misery, embrace it, enjoy it, discard it, and proceed" ~Elizabethtown

"What's important in this life, ask the man whose lost his wife" ~Pretenders

"Yes to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free sillouetted by the sea let me forget about today until tomorrow." ~Dylan

Sahara 05-08-2006 05:10 PM

Sending prayers your way Caitlin -- hope it all works out for you

I'm really sorry to hear about your situation, and I'm even more sorry that not everyone could say something understanding. :distress: As they say every cloud has a silver lining. Hopefully, something good will come out of all this. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

Thanx everyone for ur prayers...and thanx Niki for sticking up for me :xoxo: I kno my thread title is kinda weird but for a 16 year old who has been through so much having ur house taken away from u SUCKS!!!!! I have bad luck since 1997 and I just hope I get a streak of good luck one day soon. I am just sick of life!!!

Enchanted_Stevi 05-08-2006 07:42 PM

BTW Niki I emptied my message box thingy....lol

SteveMacD 05-08-2006 08:58 PM

That does suck. I was unemployed for five months last year, and now I work work with the homeless, so I know all to well. It's very hard going through this, however, you'll get through it. But, you HAVE to be determined that you'll get through it. The people who get out of our system the fastest are the ones who take control of their emotions and focus all of their energies getting out of being homeless. Of course, many, if not most of the people I deal with have a lot of other issues, too, such as alcohol and drug addictions and mental illness. Now, if they can do it, so can you. It is possible.

Caitlin, I don't know you very well...I can't claim to know everything you've gone through, and even if I did I might not be able to say I can relate. However, as someone with a terrible anxiety disorder, I can tell you that this thought pattern is not healthy for you. Now, I don't want this to sound condescending or like I'm talking down to you, but for your own sake, you have to look at some positives in your life, as hard as it may be to remember them. Which, I'm talking about this string of bad luck since 1997, NOT about the foreclosure on the house. You may not realize it because you're young, but these negative thoughts do build up in your subconscious, and I'm scared that one day they will explode like they did with me. I wouldn't wish what happened to me on anyone. I know life for you is hard right now, and again, I don't know you very well, but it still scares me anytime ANYONE says they are sick of life. Take this for what it's worth: you can bash me, tell me to shut up, agree with me, whatever. But, I thought I should offer that advice. Hang in there...sometimes the people with the hardest childhoods end up having the best adult lives.

Caitlin,
Hang in there. Just take every day as it comes and do your best. Please don't ever say you are sick of life. What you are going through is rough, but try to find a few moments in your sadness and stress to think of people who have gone through hard things and made it through alright. Be there for your family too. As hard as this is on you, it's got to be harder for them to lose what they worked for. It's probably safe to say that on top of that they feel that they may have failed their children. Be strong for them and take comfort in eachother.

ragandbone 05-09-2006 03:52 AM

Hi Caitlin, I actually went through this when I was 17. It is scary, and awful I know, and I am really sorry to hear that you are going through this!

For me the hardest thing was that my mother was so stressed, and caught up in the legal problems, that I couldn't lean on her at all when I needed to. I recall that I made a lot of bad decisions at that time, while looking for a feeling of security, and I didn't really look for guidance from adults who were outside my family.

Obviously I don't know the details of your situation, aside from what you posted, but I want to encourage you to find some steady mentor or counselor (school?), teacher, or relative, to talk to while all of this is going on.
I think it is really great that you shared this with us.

I totally agree with everything u say. I do have really bad anxiety and depression. I scare myself when I say I am sick of life. I just cant stand it anymore. It seems like everything goes wrong in it. I do really hope I have a great adult hood. I do take medicine for my anxiety and depression but I keep on forgeting to take it...STUPID ME! Thanx again for those words

Thanx...I am glad i am not the only one who has went through this! I HATE to see my mom cry and I try to comfort her but I start crying and its just so hard to be strong when ur whole family is stressed and try to lean on eachother and we cant. I do have people I talk to about this tuff like Niki(BTFLCHLD) and my frind Ally

jannieC 05-09-2006 10:58 AM

Caitlin, sometimes things that seem totally ****ty happen for a reason. Maybe you need to get away from your mom and her boyfriend for a little while if they're buzzed when you come home from school? You *will* get through all this, and it will make you a stronger adult. I had a lot of hardships at your age too- my father died suddenly when I was 17- and I made horrible choices. I ended up raped and left for dead in when I was 21. Try to stay strong and focused and as someone said earlier- find a stable adult (school counselor, etc) to help you through this process. The adults on this board are here for you too, but you definitely need someone in "real" life in your corner, helping you make decisions. Hang in there and please try to make it a priority to remember to take your meds. Things will seem unbearable if you don't. :xoxo:

I am really glad you have that group, and I am glad to hear that you have some other adult support, including Niki.

I wanted to quickly respond to dreamongypsydkm
's post to say that I can check off some of the horribles listed, and some not listed like many other Ledgies, and just like so many adults, (alcoholic parent, watching a parent try to kill the other, date rape, and on) and I do count the house foreclosure as traumatic and difficult. I don't even think I could rate awful events as being more or less horrible, what can be the most difficult is the cumulative effect of these events. Some people are more resilient, and better equipped for adversity than others.

It is hard to have perspective when you are in the spin cycle, and I often find myself wishing now that I could go back and tell me teenage self about all of the amazing adventures I would have in life, and that there would be more "bad luck" and but also a lot of good and so many opportunities. And, I wish I could have known how much control and power I already had over my own life.

Sorceror386 brought up an important point: watch out for the negative loop that can happen when you feel overwhelmed, and keep talking to your friends and advisors! This is a great time to plan where you want to be in a few years and make it happen.
