What is the oldest friendship on the ledge?

Of all the friendships formed ON the ledge, what is the longest-lived one? (but it has to still be a friendship--it can't have broken up in recent years)

estranged4life 04-28-2006 03:38 PM

Couldnt tell ya...

since I never really thought about it until this question was posed.

Not many people from 2001 still around, and even less from the pre-2001 Ledge.

cliffdweller 04-28-2006 03:39 PM

I've only been on since 2003  but I've made a few friends online and off and I still consider them friends.

How long (and with whom) is your longest ledgie friendship, David?

Patti 04-28-2006 03:40 PM

I still have several friends and acquaintances back from 1997, around the time of The Dance, which was when I first found the Penguin and the Ledge. Wow, it's been 9 years. Hard to believe.

I don't remember. Hayley, I think, or Les, neither of whom hangs out here much today. Our friendships go back probably to around 1998 from the ledge or maybe 1997. I can't remember the year.

chiliD 04-28-2006 03:44 PM

Well, David, I just can't seem to shake ya. (not that I'd WANT to) We've been yapping about Fleetwood Mac since...Time or thereabouts, right? Or was it even BEFORE that?

Hayley's been around here since she switched from tricycle to bicycle.

Even met my beautiful WIFE here back in 1997.

Sadly, many of those who were around in the early days left and haven't come back. (or maybe they HAVE, under a different screen name without letting on of their previous identity)

Patti, were you friends with Ava back then?

Yes we go waaaay back. However we didn't become friends on the ledge, so that's why I didn't include you. I was thinking of people I met specifically on the ledge. Whereas you & I were both posting on amfm back pre-reunion days, along with sMac & Nepotist chris & remember that nice guy Chris Small who lived in Davis? Wonder what ever happened to him.

We weren't what I would call friends per se, but I did talk with her from time to time, yes.

Yeah...Chris Small...I remember him.

Oh, yeah, I remember MacDougall from the waaaay back, too...he had his own FMac website AND he was running that really cool Dave Mason site, as well.

mylittledemon 04-28-2006 03:55 PM

I was lurking around here back in 1999 before I joined in 2001. I even had Lis (& Marty) print me up a bitchin 8x10 of Lindsey she took on The Dance tour.

Sad but true! Ten years this fall, maybe? that I've been posting on the Ledge. Not a lot of people left from those days- you, David, Johnny Stew, maybe? Also, Torri was the first Ledgie I ever met in 1998 and I love her and miss her as much today as ever.

There's a lot more friendships that have broken up or I've lost contact with in recent years. I started posting on the Ledge so young, and my life has changed so much since then. I started posting when I was 14, and I'm almost 24 now. I have a career, and a cat, I will soon be buying my first couch!, am going to graduate school, and I plan on entangling my amazing boyfriend into making an honest woman of me as soon as humanly possible. It's crazy.

Yes, I have a family. A grown stepdaughter and her husband (who would be my stepson-in-law).

As much as we've disagreed over the years (all in good fun, mind you, it's never been angry/bitter like some of our fellow Ledgiemites)...I always think of you as the Ledge-father-figure. Kinda like the Mick Fleetwood of the message boards. Ok...that was kinda weird, so I'll go now.

JazmenFlowers 04-28-2006 06:15 PM

for me, it's Johnny Stew...back in 97/98, it was him, Travis, someone else I can't remember to save my life and me that I remember. Travis still comes on once in a while...

...ahh...the days of the "keepers" of various Stevie/FM items and putting together the Crystal Visions tape...good times!

I was the keeper of Sisters of the Moon and Stevie's moon necklace. I remember someone was the keeper of Christine's neon green cup from The Dance video.

You sure did Lis, in fact, it was the photo that appears at the top of Lindsey's forum. The one where he's looking down at his guitar. It was a great pic. I think you did that for the low, low price of $20! haha...I still have it too!

Yep, I was here back then, too!

chiliD was one of the first people I started talking with in the early days (back when he was "Surf City Steve")... I loved picking his brain on all things Fleetwood Mac... and we're still friends. Same with David O., George (who no longer posts on the Ledge, but we're still good friends), Patti, and a small handful of others.

There are also some Ledgies who I really don't get a chance to talk with much anymore, but I still consider them to be friends. :)

Livia 04-28-2006 07:16 PM

I joined the Ledge in 1997 - I've met lots of Ledgies in person and a couple of them are my closest, dearest, friends.

Aaah! The green cup! LOL

Edit: I'm the proud owner of one of those Crystal Visions tapes. ;-)

Ohh, you guys had the "keepers" thing, too?! We had that on the XFiles forum. I thought we were the only fandom that did that.

I only jumped on the bandwagon after The Dance, but I rather enjoyed those old AMFM days, particularly because of David and the Steves. In my best Cartman voice (and my best is pretty good): I love you guys...

We have "keepers" on the Joaquin Phoenix boards that I sometimes visit. I'm not a keeper of anything, though.

However, it wouldn't surprise me if you X-philes are the originators of them. Wasn't it the X-files fans that originated the term "shipper"?

The seasons, they go round & round
The painted ponies go up & down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return, we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round & round & round
In the circle game

I notice it's a pretty common thing now, especially on Livejournal. Joaquin fan, eh? Good taste.

My Crystal Visions tape died last year... it was a sad moment.

Hmmm... I've been here since '97, just a few months before "The Dance. I remember a few names from the early days... most of the people I was friendly with back then are gone... I think Mari, Chili and David are my oldest ledgie friends.
