Pink Is Not Dead

Is anyone else excited about this album? Tuesday! :blob1:

I love "Stupid Girls" - the song and the video. And I found a link today for a great protest song from the album featuring the Indigo Girls:

"Dear Mr. President" (UPDATED LINK)

You know, I actually do like Pink. If I bought CD's, I would get hers. I don't usually like new people, but I do her.
Her voice quality is Rock. And I like that.
Thanks for the link.

Nixxxed 04-09-2006 09:52 PM

YAY! She just brightens my mood for some reason. I can't really explain why I like her or her music. Maybe it's the fact that she's pretty fearless in expressing herself, and probably has cojones bigger than mine or most people (especially after hearing "Dear Mr. President" ).

A guilty pleasure that I don't feel the least bit guilty about. :D

MacMan 04-09-2006 10:59 PM

She's good and this album is especially good & really interesting, nothing stays the same from track to track. She's all over the place on it - lots of variety.. pop, rock, some dancey kind of stuff, folksy stuff and ballads. And at 15 tracks with a hidden track at the end - there's a lot of songs on it too...

Miss Vicky 04-10-2006 01:14 AM

Wow. I really like "Stupid Girls" and after hearing this other song I'm def. buying this album.

Though in the past I've found her music to be really hit or miss. Her first album was crap (and yes I know that wasn't entirely her fault). I loved Missundaztood, but her last one (what was it called?) really just didn't do it for me.

foxyluva 04-10-2006 02:33 AM

Wow, is the album not out in the US yet???

Its been out in NZ for over 2 weeks

SuzeQuze 04-10-2006 10:29 AM

Lauer interviewed her on Dateline last night. She's great and I'll probably buy this CD. He seemed to really enjoy her, he wishes he were such a rebel!

JazmenFlowers 04-10-2006 10:47 AM

I think this has been out in the US since last Tuesday.

I love P!nk. I've loved her since her first cd came out. To me, her best song will always be Stop Fallin from her debut cd. She has an amazing voice and has a lot to say. She has no fear and puts it all out there. I love that. I tend to like her ballads (I'm a ballad-whore), but she definitely knows how to rock out. I also like that she writes a lot of her own stuff.

Stupid Girls is one of the most accurate, interesting, in your face songs/videos to come out in a long time.

bikerchic 04-10-2006 10:49 AM

She's on Oprah today.

Did you see Lauer on the Today show when he lived out his wildest dream? Get ready for this.....he wanted to be a biker. It was hilarious. A bunch of bikers dressed him up in leather and took him cruisin'.

 Omigod. I may have seen that I'm not sure. He was edgier in his younger days but has conformed at this point. Snooze. Although Edgy for him still was pretty square.

No way in hell. She'll probably be lucky if she doesn't get death threats. Sad but true. But gotta love the Internet - if the link goes down, someone let me know and I'll YouSendIt for everyone.

Thanks for the Oprah tip! I just caught the end of her deal on the Kid's Choice Awards this weekend, and had no idea about Dateline. Was it good, Suze? And thanks for the quickie review MacMan!

Every release date for the album has said 4/11. Maybe they bumped it up since "Stupid Girls" has been out a few months generating buzz. I was in a record store last week, and I didn't see it.

And I finally got her page to load - http://www.pinkspage.com - other upcoming appearances:

Monday 10th April - Oprah
Tuesday 11th April - Regis and Kelly
Tuesday 11th April - Late Night with Conan O'Brien
Friday 14th April - Ellen de Generes

Will be setting that Tivo for that one.

Wow - I actually made it through a whole Oprah episode without vomiting. She was on her best, most thoughtful behavior today.

And Pink was great - to the point without being a know-it-all or diva. I especially liked the anecdote she used about preparing for the show. She asked her friends to help her come up with positive non-"stupid" celebrities of her age group, and they could only come up with 3 off the top of their heads, without resorting to Google: Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon, and Natalie Portman.

Well, I'd have to argue with her first choice but I see why she said it. The latter 2 I love. None of them are in the music biz.

I know, I'm thinkin', oh is that because she's trying to save all the children in the world? but at the same time I'm thinkin', that hoe, stole Brad from Jen and is now knocked up with his baby illegitimately. Yeah, real smart, quite a role model

Nixxxed 04-11-2006 02:18 PM

RE: Angelina ^^

I'm not an Angelina fan per se, but at least she balances the crazy side with the thoughtful side.

Pink said the whole point about "Stupid Girls" wasn't about morality or conventional wisdom - it was about girls acting less smart to impress men (dumbing themselves down) and to appear less threatening mentally to get ahead, or to even get accepted in certain businesses. Also, she said the problem wasn't being sexy, it was that "smart and sexy are not oil and water..."

And she made a funny comment about the actual word - something like: "I'm a songwriter - I needed 2 syllables to fit the music, and that was the easiest way to get where I needed to go."

EDIT: And I also thought it was interesting that none of her three examples were in the music business. And come to think of it, I can't really name any singers that fit the bill (other than Pink), either. At least not mainstream ones...

bikerchic 04-11-2006 02:23 PM

^^^and Dr. Robin said, they're not really stupid girls, they're "lost" girls. Pink was probably thinking "damn, I should have called it "Lost Girls"

But that's only one syllable! Try again...

And yer welcome for the mp3. Glad you like the song, I did too.

Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Avril Lavigne come to mind

Dumb question. What's Pink's real name?

OK - I'll buy those. And I thought of 2: Gwen Stefani & Missy Elliot, although they're at the end of the age range in question I'm afraid.

David: Alicia Moore, although she just got married so technically Alicia Hart.

ooh - I'd add Lisa Marie to the "not stupid" list, although she too is at the end of the age range. (And forget the whole MJ marriage - it doesn't fit our definition for this discussion. )

 I had a boss who treated people really badly but was involved in all of these causes. It always bugged me that he couldn't treat the people close to him well, that is a red light for bad character. Charity begins at home.

"Dear Mr. President" kicks ass!!!!!!! I love it! It sums up how I feel about the state of thing quite well. If Pink has the balls to write and sing a song like this, I definitely want to support her in her endeavor. I will be purchasing a copy.

I know, I like Lisa Marie a lot. But her life choices? Hmmmmmm.... Plus, she's a scientologist which makes me leery or her.

Cool! I couldn't get the album yesterday, but just got back from snagging my copy. I really like it so far - just like MacMan said - lots of variety. And the CD version of "Dear Mr. President" just blows the mp3 away - the harmonies are much more rich and deep.

equeen102289 04-16-2006 01:30 PM

I just got this cd yesterday and I have to recommend it! Pink is one of the most outspoken artists of this generation I'd have to say. She's not afraid to speak her mind and it makes her music so much better. The highlights of the cd for me are: Dear Mr. President, The One That Got Away, and the hidden track at the end that her dad wrote and she sings with him. I obviously love the acoustic/folksy stuff.
But anyways, if you love Pink, you'll love this album. She's back to her more personal side like Misunderstood (or however she chose to spell it lol). Go check it out!

Nixxxed 04-21-2006 01:26 PM

Just found a live performance of "Dear Mr. President" on YouTube:

I'll try to do the embedded player, too:
