Wow. Your lucky. I just saw a live performance of "these dreams" on TV with an orchestra - it was great :D
|
the one & only time I saw Heart (in Santa Barbara at I think the State Theater) they opened with I think Barracuda & they sang that "Should I drive my car?" song, which I thought was "Should I drive my car?" so that's what I called it, but my dormmate Jon said, "No, I think it's Should I drop my guard"
But I have trouble remembering that unless I concentrate specifically on it. Anyway, I thought they were really bland in concert, really faceless. Musically, they were no different from Loverboy or any number of other bland corporate rockers. El Rayo-X opened that show that night, & they were everything that Heart wasn't: quirky, joyous, committed, edgy, funky, chancy. Although I must say that Ann & nancy themselves are or were visually goddesses who ruled the airwaves & the concert stages for a time. But one didn't get the sense from them that there was any genuine heart in the commitment to songwriting or even performing. It was just a bunch of smooth professionals earning a very good living. to this day, I still remember what Robert Hilburn of the L.A. Times said of them: something like "never has a band been more inaptly named" whenever a Stevie fan says she loves Heart, I immediately know I wouldn't make a good sounding board for that person, or give that person much pleasure in conversation. Our ways of life are too different, our backgrounds are incompatible....so farewell, my friend, & let there be no hard feelings..... |

Unwinded, have a great time and post a review! Can't wait to see Heart in June. |

Mike Inez? He was in Alice in Chains, I think that explains it all  |
I probably saw them at least once during every tour in the 70's and early 80's including front row at the San Diego Sports Arena. I skipped their big hair shows  but that was more because I was paying off college loans and needed to eat. They still rock. Ann's voice is pure rock and roll. Hope you have a great time!

If you can't feel it, then fine. "Visually goddesses"??? Never mind. You'll never get it. Quoting Robert Hilburn of all people? How banal... that old claptrap wouldn't know music if it blared his ear off. |

Seriously, to each their own, but I am at a loss to see how Ann's voice could not dazzle anyone. I mean listen to their version of "Unchained Melody" - and then think that that is a 50 something year old woman hitting those three or so octaves with the same vengence she showed when she was in her 20's  I also think Dreamboat Annie and Dog and Butterfly are amongst the most original and cooler things I have ever heard. |

Heart has produced plenty of dreck along the way, however, the talent of Ann and Nancy is pretty much unparalled. |

I know, and I love every cheesy minute of it! The one thing I can't stomach though is "All I Wanna Do is Make Love To You." They should have just let Don Henley have that one . But I love the "Heart" album which I know a lot of old schoolers don't like, but whatever, I would listen to Ann sing the alphabet. And the way I look at it is, if I can be a Stevie Nicks fan through Rock a Little and Tango in the Night :sorry: I can be a Heart fan through their mid-late 80's debacle of a decade making music . |

Pfffff! That's cool. I just think the narrative is SOOOOOO unbelievable! I mean, a woman (and I know this song was written for a man) is driving along the road at night picks up a male hitchhiker, takes him to a motel, (actually, this is getting good) they have their one night stand and then years later they meet up again (randomly) and the child sees her "own eyes" in the eyes of the "real" father for the first time? Gimme a break, it is so far fetched! |

I was speaking more of the vocal/melody. |

Oh I know, but as I was posting I started to think about the lyrics and it just kind of tickled me. Ann's singing is flawless though! |

Tell that to my mom and dad. :) |

I can't imagine what drugs Ann was on the time that would allow her to record that song. |

Ann has stated many times in the past that the main reason she was able to keep her figure in the mid-late 70's was due to her cocaine use. Her ex, Mike Fisher, was a real asshole and was always harping on her about her weight. |

Yeah, and where is he today? Exactly. His brother (was it Steve Fisher?) was a total dork too. Did anyone see the Heart BTM? He was so incredibly in lust with Nancy Wilson it was insane! He had his eye on her from the time she joined the band and then mercilessly pursued her for years until she finally caved and got together with him. Then he threw a guitar at her backstage because she broke up with him and hooked up with the drummer. I dunno, he kind of has a stalkeresque quality to him that gives me the creeps! |

Jupiter's Darling is okay. Not great and certainly not a return to form in terms of their 70's material. I consider it more of a fifth incarnation for them. Roger Fisher played a large part in a lot of their 70's material. Sue Ennis tried to take over his role and IMO was a weak replacement. Just look at all the horrible material from Private Audition (blech). That's their worst album, ever. |
Quote:
And I think Jupiter's Darling is much closer to their 70's material/sound than anything else they've done in the last 20 years, and that's saying something. I am totally impressed by this album, I think the Wilson's have done very well "on their own" (so to speak), with their own vision. I really like some of the Sue Ennis collaborations from the 70's, but yes, Private Audition sucks. |
Anyone else going to Heart at the Mountain Winery on Sept. 6th? Got my tix this morning. I'm going to this show instead of Konocti.
