Random Question: 'When I See You Again' or 'The Second Time'

I've been meaning to ask this for a while now, but never gotten around to it.

Both these songs are very similar to me, both are slow, almost acoustic outro songs to both albums, and both are not really liked by very many people. I don't know how to make a poll, so....

Now is the time to choose: Which song is better??

My choice: Although I do love WISYA, i've always just had a love for The Second Time

danax6 03-12-2006 04:25 PM

When I See You Again, most definitely. As I already said in the 'Unpopular opinions' thread, there is just something about this song, something very emotional, that makes it good in spite of the bad lyrics. Or better yet, annoyingly repetitive lyrics.

Richard B 03-12-2006 04:31 PM

WISYA all the way. I love the way she coos "baby" so many ways. So sweet. Try it with your lover.

DavidMn 03-12-2006 04:33 PM

The Second Time. I know I'll get a remark or two obout this, but it's my favorite song on BTM.:)

I have had some major issues that have come up in my life, and im just beginning to get my life back on track

Maybe I'll prefer WISYA when I finally have a love-life

Which of course makes me think of this song from that album that has that song you prefer:
When it comes to love, got to treat it special
When it comes to love, shouldn't be no pressure
When it comes to love, got to take it easy
You can't be too careful, when it comes to love

When it comes to love
Take It Easy
Got to learn to take it slow
When it comes to love
Keep believin'
When it comes to love
Give it time, and just let it grow

I'm sort of in the same boat you are. I've made some mistakes, but who's perfect, right?

WISYA. I really like this song a lot. especially the watsumatababies. I don't like any of Stevie's BTM songs, especially not The Second Time. The only one I can deal with (and barely) is Love is Dangerous. The rest are terrible.

No contest

When I see you again...wins hands down

I love the agony, the emotion, the desperate pleading vocals, the totally shot hoarse voice..
I love it all and I love it more for what it says about she and Lindsey and the never ending story of their "connection" love/hate -hate/love passion and despair...
"Again and again...over and over..."

For me- there truly is no better song that captures her vunerability at that time- than this one.

goldie 03-12-2006 08:13 PM

I love both of these songs. If I had to choose, I'd say WISYA is better, only because Lindsey sings on it and produced it.

Hell Yea!!! That is in my top 5 Stevie solo songs - along with "Ooh My Love" & "Ghosts"

Freedom is great also - especially christines backing vocals

WISYA is winning 5 to 3

Come on people - save The Second Time :blob1:

diamondsnake 03-12-2006 11:36 PM

The Second Time. It is a beautiful song! Actually, I love all of Stevie's BTM songs.

wheart 03-13-2006 06:43 AM

I've always loved The Second Time. I love the lyrics and I just think it's such a pretty song. The only problem I have with it are Stevie's lifeless vocals, like all her songs on BTM.

WISYA is tragic and heartbreaking and her damaged voice at that time does reflect the whole feel of the song very well. If I must pick, I'd have to pick WISYA but I still love TST :)

Kelly 03-13-2006 07:59 AM

WISYA

I agree with everything Eclipse posted. The desperation in her voice, the pain and fear....ahhh, I love it. Plus Lindsey at the end is perfect.

I just listened to WISYA and I had forgotten how pretty it is. I could do without some of the lyrics and the way too many 'What's a matter, babys?" However. I do like LB's guitar work and his vocals on the song.

TheBlueLamp 03-13-2006 08:59 AM

When I See You Again definitely, but I really do like The Second Time (and I love all of Stevie's BTM songs EXCEPT Love Is Dangerous)

melly 03-13-2006 09:02 AM

I prefer When I See You Again.

1934mission 03-13-2006 10:47 AM

The Second Time

I like The Second Time a bit better. I also listen to BTM more. I am sometimes in the mood for Stevies' fragile voice. I also love her voice on Smiling Islands, She Loves Him Still, Rock A Little, and Landslide 1980 Live. Her raw emotion is touching.

Ear wax build-up again, David?

"When I See You Again" is the better song all around. Somebody should've bulk erased the master tapes of "The Second Time" as a "Save The World" measure.

I knew you'd say that. I was just waiting for it. Just to placate you a bit, I was enjoying In The Back Of My Mind yesterday evening relaxing at home.:wavey:

Second Time by a narrow margin in my book.

The lights go out in the arena. The stage is dark. Lindsay appears at one side, Stevie at the other. They walk across, meet in the middle, hug. The crowd goes crazy. They break into Second Time. Just them, white spot light. "The secontd time around, for us, she never looked back, she could never look back." The stage goes dark, then Mick's base drum starting the beat of The Chain...

You have wonderful taste. Such a great song. Wished they did it on the BTM Tour...but no biggie. I enjoyed that tour immensley, both legs, which were slightly different. In the second leg of the tour got to see Lindsey with the band for the first time in a long time at the Oakland, CA show (I think he showed up for LA too). Stevie looked much better on the first leg of the BTM tour though.

Also, so good to see WISYA winning. It's such a great song.

jwd 03-13-2006 08:50 PM

It's kind of like asking who would you rather kiss, Joan Rivers or Phyllis Diller. BUT, I do like "Second Time" better than the sloppy, repetitive, drivel that came to be WISYA.

The Tower 03-13-2006 10:07 PM

"The Second Time" (!!!!)

"And your sorrows left you there...
Right before the lights came up
Do you remember you took my hand???
Do you remember... my friend?"

I love it.

Johnny Stew 03-15-2006 01:01 AM

Anyone who's been visiting the Ledge for any length of time, knows how much I love "When I See You Again." :o For me, it's Stevie's most emotionally stark, soul-baring song. There's so much longing and desperation in that vocal, and a growing weariness. I also think each repetition of the line, "what's the matter, baby," further reveals how dark of a place she was in.
It may be a flawed song, but it's beautifully flawed, in my opinion.

"The Second Time" isn't bad at all though... but I don't think Stevie's vocal really did it justice. To my ears, it needed a somewhat softer, more gentle approach. If she had recorded it about ten years before, it would probably be pretty well regarded by the majority of her fans.

Miss Vicky 03-15-2006 01:25 AM

I can't say that I'm a big fan of either song, but of the two I definitely prefer "When I See You Again." It's not the most exciting song but it's pleasant enough.

"The Second Time" on the other hand, is offensive to my ears. The lyrics and music are passable, if not actually good, but the vocal is like nails on a chalkboard - it makes me cringe and feel physically ill everytime I hear it. Put bluntly, it's the worst Fleetwood Mac song I've ever heard.

EnchantedSLN 03-15-2006 01:52 AM

I prefer WISYA, but both are good. I like Stevie's raspy, fragile voice as much as her asskicking rock voice. But that statement probably belongs in the "unpopular opinions" thread. The emotional versatility of her voice amazes me... even when I don't love her words, I love the way she sings them.

The only thing I kind of wince at in The Second Time, is the "do you remember how the angels sang" line. I think it made the otherwise decent lyrics a tad too maudlin.

What he said. Also, the first time I listened to the song, I got chills when Lindsey came in at the end. It's kind of devastating.

The Second Time really does nothing for me. Bore fest.

Stevie's vocal on "The Second Time" is quite remarkable. It is touching, subtle and very moving. The lyrics are stronger also. I don't mind WISYA.
I just think her vocal on it is horrible. I would love to hear her sing it now.
I remember being so shocked that her voice was shredded on a FM project.
