feel for the dude...
age...cancer...hip replacement...divorce...rehab have taken their toll...
his guitar work still kicks my ass :wavey:

Lee 03-07-2006 12:22 PM

Yeah, they were talking about this on a Van Halen message board that I'm a member of. Apparently someone saw Eddie up close at a concert a few years ago, & some of his teeth are missing & just look awful. You know, I'm sure he has the money to get his teeth fixed, but I just don't think he cares anymore. He's back to drinking & smoking; some people just never learn, :( but he is an excellent guitar player.

Lee :(

DavidMn 03-07-2006 01:45 PM

Wow. he dont look too good.

He doesn't need to care anymore. Plenty of money for him till he leaves his Earth bound body.

I think Valerie was the reason for his recent binges again. But again, he's living the good/high life...not a care in the world.

I guess when it comes down to it, the only person that can change the situation is Eddie himself.

Because of her leaving him? What do you mean by this? Because I heard that that's why she left him in the first place, because he started smoking again and wouldn't stop his binge drinking .

That is why. But I think it added to a bigger binge streak and self destruction mode.

estranged4life 03-07-2006 02:19 PM

That was easy...

EVH...He has become a sad lonely little man, He was destroying himself so much that his wife Valerie finally had enough and their marriage has finally ended. How can someone survive (oral) cancer and return to the exact behavior (smoking) that caused the cancer in the first place is really pathetic to me.

Really sad that Van Halen is basically a disolved band with no real record contract, who even if the rumors are true about the CBS "Rock Star" series appearance, will be a band consisting of only the Van Halen brothers since Michael Anthony is no longer a member ("Mad Anthony", in an interview this week, stated he did not play on the 3 new tracks on the recent Van Halen greatest hits 2 disc compilation) and any chance of another reunion of the Hagar era will now never occur (A Roth era reunion also will never occur, so dont hold your breaths on it.)

The bets are still on for which of the following 3 rock artists will be the first to the grave:

Edward Van Halen
Scott Weiland
Steven Adler

As of now it is neck-and-neck between EVH & Adler

while I am a fan of Van Halen, they havent done anything of interest to me since 1991 (The DLR period was the best VH era)

I know that's right.

Also, I didn't know Michael Anthony left the band. Wow, that kind of signals the end doesn't it? I don't think the two remaining members can resuscitate this dying band :distress:

And have I mentioned that Eddie looks like ass?? Holy ****, I can't get over it.

Rickypt 03-07-2006 06:44 PM

My god, and to think that one of the ways I realized I was gay was by getting all stirred inside looking at pics of Eddie back in the early 80's.

Not that this has anything to do with the music, but wasnt David known as a complete prick and Sammy as a great guy?

Lala 03-07-2006 11:12 PM

Oh my gawd I would have never recognized him!

I was trying to figure out who they'd mixed with David LEtterman to make such a haggardly looking man

jannieC 03-08-2006 01:52 PM

This whole thing is so sad for me. I was madly in love with EVH back in the day. I even remember when he and Valerie first got married. I was crushed and said it would never last. lol

bretonbanquet 03-08-2006 02:17 PM

Is he Really only 51 years old?

Hopefully Weiland will stay off the smack. Eddie's decline is very sad. I hardly think he is living the high life. More like the "I hate myself so much I'll drink myself into oblivion." life. I haven't followed Adler's career at all.

Hmm, ok, I'll give ya EVH, and its very sad, cos lord knows the man has talent, but I saw Weiland last year and I dont care if they say hes clean...hes on something or other, looks like to me anyways...altho Adler aint looking that hot either (which is sad cos in the day....)....

Damn, I hate my rock n roll icons looking so rough, it just so much hard living, hard rocking...but how he started smoking after surving the oral cancer? I dont even know.

the trainwreck which is Steven Adler (Ex-GNR drummer) I suggest reading the interesting stuff over on my other home away from the Ledge, metalsludge.tv (Recommended is Steven's 3 part 20 Q&A and the disasterous fallout from it...I hate to say but I think John McVie would be a perfect subject for a Sludge 20 Q&A)

Weiland has bigger problems on the horizon (If this part of the recent press release that was released through W.Axl Roses' attorney is true") :

"In October of 2005 Slash made an unannounced 5:30 AM visit to Axl Rose's house. Not appearing to be under the influence, Slash came to inform Axl that: 'Duff was spineless,' 'Scott [Weiland] was a fraud,' that he 'hates Matt Sorum' and that in this ongoing war, contest or whatever anyone wants to call it that Slash has waged against Axl for the better part of 20 years, that Axl has proven himself 'the stronger.' Based on his conduct in showing up at Rose's home, Axl was hopeful that Slash would live up to his pronouncements that he wanted to end the war and move on with life. Unfortunately that did not prove to be the case. "
