No More New Music???

So what's the deal that Stevie may not release any more albums?? I know she's disappointed with the success of TISL, but it was so well received...I can't believe that it may be her last work! She's also really against downloading and bootlegs, but we all crave her stuff so much, that her real fans will buy whatever she puts out - Any news on the new Greatest Hits compilation she spoke about before starting the Aussie tour????

I don't think anyone knows what's going to happen, probably not even Stevie.

If you're waiting for new Stevie music, all you can do is keep your fingers crossed.

ShangriLaTroubl 03-05-2006 07:44 PM

I think she was probably the most disappointed with the SAY YOU WILL album...I guess she figures if a Fleetwood Mac studio album can't even reach a million, then that doesn't leave much hope for a solo album--or getting a label interested in one for that matter..I still say Fleetwood Mac should've went to Interscope records even though they weren't offered as large of an advance, I think Interscope would've shown more interest in the album, with the Jimmy Iovine-Stevie connection and all.

In my opinion it's just people being paranoid. There's been NO real indication of this, just random speculation based on no real evidence and people reading too much into things. I do think that they'll have to re-think some things and maybe get a smaller label, personally, but as Mick says, "She'll be doing this for donkey's years." Stevie, if anything, has indicated in recent comments that she has absolutely no plans to stop any time soon.

ShangriLaTroubl 03-05-2006 08:01 PM

Well when she says stuff like this you tend to think she's not much interested in doing another album :

"It's like, does it really matter at this point?" she says when asked if she is working on a follow-up to her last solo album, 2001's Trouble In Shangri-La. "Do people really want to hear a whole other solo record, when you can get one or two songs for I-Tunes? I'm thinking about a way you could just put out a few songs once in a while, maybe four songs that you loved, instead of having to figure out 16 songs, many of which you might not love."

about Say You Will

"I'd be totally lying if I said that record is what I wanted, because it isn't," she says. "I argued with Lindsey all the way through it, and he argued with me. It wasn't very much fun, and I wasn't that pleased with the music. I felt my demos were better, which of course is easy to say, but I did. And what can I say? It wasn't a lot of fun."

Also the fact that she says she hasn't written a song in forever leads me to believe she isn't exactly gearing up for a new release!

SpyNote 03-05-2006 11:56 PM

This isn't anything new. The quantity of releases has been declining since Timespace. Waiting is just part of being a fan of her music. I'd prefer that Stevie stop complaining about the state of the music industry and just make the damn music.

Yeah, and then when she says the exact opposite thing the very next day you tend to start rolling your eyes.

Stevie has hired a (not) new - oops! Publicist named Liz Rosenberg - who is or at least was Madonna's Publicist. That's ALLLLLLL i'm gonna say here....

Really? I've yet to hear Stevie say she's "disappointed" with the success of TISL - where did that come from??

Out of the loop much? Stevie has been with Liz Rosenberg for years...

Kelly 03-06-2006 07:42 AM

A few people on the Seven Wonders board told GT that too.....yesterday.
Liz is not a "'new publicist"'. Stevie talks about her with Rosie O'Donnell in 2001 for starters. Liz is the one who has been around for donkey's years.

Where did Stevie contradict what Chris quoted above? You can add Lori's Q and A answer too, where she says there are no plans for a new album. Tracker must think Lori Nicks is reading too much into things as well?

OOOPS! Oh well, I goofed! :p :sorry: Somebody called her Stevie's "new manager" the other day and I had thought that maybe they mistook "new manager" for "new publicist." Is it possible that that's true??? (that she's Stevie's new manager.)
Uhm, anyway I do still feel that L.R. is behind the changes in "publicity tactics" which are - maybe - going on in Australia and New Zealand, and that a lot of thought is going into this "behind the scenes." And I do believe it's true that she's also Madonna's publicist, or at least was. As in "Madonna, the Queen of Re-inventing Herself..."

DavidMn 03-06-2006 04:11 PM

Just wait and hope.

wheart 03-06-2006 05:23 PM

I wish she'd re-release all her solo albums...remastered with bonus tracks. There was talk of this some time ago and she said she was probably going to do it so maybe...

SpyNote 03-06-2006 06:06 PM

Liz Rosenberg handles publicity for most of the major acts on the Warner label. She has been the publicist for Madonna, Stevie, Seal, k.d. lang, Bette Midler, among others. Undoubtedly, a very powerful woman in the industry.

Yeah she's had Liz for ever, I know before 1998, hasn't changed anything.

I don't think Stevie's really been doin any new publicity tactics, other than doing some interviews with magazines to promote her tour...

liz rosenberg is a publicist - and one of the biggest there is. she is not a manager. she is not stevie's manager. she is stevie's publicist. she's been madonna's publicist forever and a day.

i haven't seen any new or unique new publicity stunts or tactics from stevie that i would attribute to liz or anyone else. what are you referring to specifically? she's done interviews - but who doesn't when they're on tour? i don't think it was liz's idea that she go to australia and NZ. it's not the job of a publicist to book tours.

In my opinion it's all just rumours and speculation. Stevie made some negative comments in Australia, when she was maybe having a bad day. Then the very next day she was positive and upbeat. I.m.o. people have completely ignored the positive comments and dwelled on the negative. I find it very interesting that people are rounding 57 up to "almost sixty," instead of down to 55 and saying "mid-fifties." Granted she's almost 58 now but people have been doing that for the entire past year. They're interpreting jet lag and fatigue as laziness and a desire to either quit or drop dead altogether.
Also, A Reliable Source has told Someone that Stevie's feeling very tired and just wants to go home.

( And you KNOW how unreliable those "Reliable Sources" are. )

I know someone who spoke to her personally - a friend of the person who got Stevie that scrapbook, for whatever that's worth. Not personally, but through chat - give it whatever creditability you like. That person says that Stevie is, to all appearances, having a BLAST in Australia and LOVES it there.

Also, I'd like to suggest keeping something in mind - if you DO look at "The Big Picture" - that Stevie's been touring since before MTV was even a gleam in the eye - then this is "just another day at work" for her. It's a really big huge whopping deal for the fans; for her, it's "just another day." Feeling tired at work one day doesn't mean you're gonna walk into the boss's office tomorrow and suddenly quit without notice. It means you're human and had a bad day at work - or even a GOOD day when you just simply felt tired.

And I'm really not reading ANYTHING, personally, into any supposed "hints" she's giving. Means nuthin, i.m.o.

Red 03-07-2006 12:26 AM

I just can't believe that Stevie is shocked that there's been a decline in album sales. Theres's no way she's going to be as big as she was in the '70's and '80's, but that's fine. Does anybody really care if she hits #1 again? That's not supposed to be what its all about, especially when you're someone who claims to be "all about the music". I'm satisfied with ANY new releases, whether solo or with FM and don't give 2 ****s about where it places on the charts. That's getting waaaay to Billy Corgan for me.

ShangriLaTroubl 03-07-2006 02:20 AM

I don't know, it just seems like a combination of comments she has made lately...however, you may be right it could have just been a couple of bad moods, who knows. I would just think if she was really interested in making a new solo album, she would have started working on one after the Fleetwood Mac tour, which ended a year and 1/2 ago..I for one hope she does release more music, I just don't know if she will or not..

Chris
