The Oscars!
Thanks to a nifty new cable decoder I stole from my dad for the evening, I can now watch the Oscar pre-show (and later on the Red Carpet show) on E!. It doesn't have ABC, but a german channel is airing the actual Academy Awards, so I guess that means I will be staying up till 5 am to catch it all.
So, who else is watching? :wavey: |

Yep, I'll be watching. One of my favorite nights of the year.
|
I'll be watching Joan and Melissa while I record E, or the other way around, not sure yet.
I just watched Crash last night - good movie. And I watched Walk the Line earlier this week. Those are the only Oscar-nominated films I've seen so far, since I loathe going to movie theaters. |
I'll be watching. I've seen Crash, Brokeback Mountain, and Walk the Line. All good.
|
I'm about to pile on the couch and drink it all in tonight.

I doubt it wins though - I really see Walk the Line taking everything they're nominated for... |
Okay, how about a non-alcoholic beverage for "amaaaazing" and alcoholic whenever someone flubs reading the teleprompter or mispronounces a name?

I think BBM will take Picture and Director, easily. I am hoping for an Amy Adams win in Supporting Actress. :blob1:
|
Which channel has Joan and Melissa? So I can see if I have it right now...
I can't stand Joan Rivers though. |
The TV Guide Channel has Joan and Melissa, but I doubt you'll be able to pick it up...I get a weak signal here as it is...
|
I've only seen two of the nominated films (Walk the Line and Brokeback Mountain) and the only category I care about is Best Actor. However, I know that my favorite isn't going to win so unless I'm desperately bored and there is absolutely NOTHING else on television tonight, I'm skipping the Oscars.

Here are my annual Oscar predictions...
Best Supporting Actress: Rachel Weisz for The Constant Gardener. I would really prefer Michelle Williams to win for Brokeback Mountain, but I think the Academy will honor Rachel. Best Supporting Actor: This could go to either George Clooney for Syriana (he has 3 nominations this year and will probably win this one) or Matt Dillon for Crash. I would love to see Matt Dillon - one of my favorite actors - win and the Academy very well could honor him because this was a terrific role, but George Clooney is so beloved in Hollywood. This will be an interesting category. Best Actress: Reese Witherspoon for Walk The Line. There is a huge buzz behind Felicity Huffman in Transamerica (and wouldn't that be something if she won?), but I don't think enough people have seen that movie. My bet is that it's Reese's night. Best Actor: Phillip Seymour Hoffman for Capote. My favorite working actor today, he was brilliant in this role and the Academy truly respects this amazingly talented actor. Best Director: Ang Lee for Brokeback Mountain. A gorgeous, sweeping, beautiful movie. Best Film: Crash. While Brokeback Mountain could very well win (and deservingly so), I think that the Academy will vote for Crash for it's social commentary and it's bold look at racism in America. rbs |

Please don't think ill of me, but my interest in the Oscars & all attendant hoopla is precisely nil.
I do like movies, though! |
Amen...

Only thing better would be a winner slamming the trophy to the ground in a million pieces and tell the Academy those ever popular 2 words that equate to "F.U." |

It's just that I don't know any of these actors or these stars any more. I haven't known who the stars are since Tommy Lee Jones tried to kill Faye Dunaway (that's about 1978). |

Okay, I saw George Clooney. I can die happy now.
|
Did I miss something? Are Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock together? Or was it just a coincidence that they were shown together brushing each other's clothes of? ;)

The only Oscar movies I've seen are Brokeback Mountain and Transamerica. The two "controversial" movies!

It does me. |
I never thought of that, I must say.
But I do have to say that this host sucks!!!! He is so not funny! Why do they pick the most uncomfortable people to host these awards? Couldn't they pick someone pleasant? |
Damn!!! I wanted Jake to win! I hope Michelle Williams gets best supporting actress.
|
Clooney wins for Syriana! :blob2: :blob1: :blob2: :blob1:
|
Apparently I have actually seen three of the movies nominated... Munich being a the third.
Why oh why did that reeking piece of crap get in the best picture category? I'm bored, really bored so I tuned in. Joaquin looks tired and bloated (wonder if he's on meds from his car crash or if he's just stoned) and seemed none to happy about the "WTL as Ray with white people" joke. |

Oh yea...and Nicole looks FANTASTIC! I sweart to God I could just stare at her all day.
|
Jake Gyllenhal looked shocked that he didn't win.
|
Dolly totally RULES!
She's greatness. That is all.
|
I think Jake should have won, but I didn't think he looked shocked to me. He clapped, didn't he?
