Stones @ Halftime

Did anyone else think that was terrible? The sound was bad, the lights were out of synch, and that tounge thing got snagged. They came realllly close to a disaster...

ryan8472 02-05-2006 08:38 PM

Oy, they sucked. My mom was embarrassed for them. :distress: :p

ryan8472 02-05-2006 08:41 PM

And on another note (adds my mother, haha), Mick Jagger now sounds like Elmer Fudd. Plain & simple.

HomerMcvie 02-05-2006 08:50 PM

THIS was a show???????????????????? Absolute snoooooozeville. Mick's geriatric, but can still run around.....big f*n deal!
Tired old songs, that everyone's heard 5 billion times....reminds me of.........:sorry:

CelticGypsy 02-05-2006 08:52 PM

I just want to know how the h&** Mick and band members stay so damn skinny:mad: They are way older than I am and well, I don't want to do drugs or eat lettuce for the rest of my life in order to be thinner...........it just sucks being chubby even when I diet and exercise:mad:

The music wasn't that great. The game is sucking big time. Come on, Seahawks:mad: get a few touchdowns!!!!

sara1998 02-05-2006 08:52 PM

What the hell are you talking about? They did one new song, which is more than Paul McCartney can say!

I thought it was okay. My biggest gripe was the mix. Not enough GEETAR! And, for that matter, not enough close-ups of Ron or Keith! And, how they bleeped out "You, you, you, you make a dead man..." Is nothing sacred? But, really, does anybody expect a full blown Stones experience during a half-time show?

Saw an interview with Mick not too long ago... He said he runs 5 miles almost everyday

I liked the halftime show. I liked the stage and I'm sure everyone there pretty much enjoyed it. Mick looks pretty good for an old man. His arms are buff but even still, he's got bat wings. And he did sound a bit winded on the first song. I liked Rough Justice. Also whoever said there wasn't enough guitar in the mix, I agree.

If I look like that when I'm 70 or whatever, I'll be pretty happy.

diamondsnake 02-05-2006 10:31 PM

I find Stevie much more entertaining. She should have done the half time show! I think her doing Standback would be amazing. But then again I'm a crazy super-Stevie-fan, so of course I'm going to say that.

xdreamsunwindx 02-05-2006 10:44 PM

The sound was terrible. Other than that, I thought they were okay. I enjoy seeing Mick Jagger dance around like a crazed, geriatric rock & roller, so maybe I'm biased. They're the STONES. They're awesome no matter what.

Side note, holy ****ing ****, the Steelers won. I don't even care, but I'm elated right now. <333

estranged4life 02-05-2006 10:55 PM

Sounded fine to me....

compared to the pre-game performance of Stevie Wonder & Aretha Franklin (Which was major "Snoresville' doomed to be muted via the mute button).

And how about those Steelers!!! Boo-yah!!! Loved it!!!

I know! Like I said, he looked pretty good but it makes me feel good to know that even Mick can't escape the bat wings.

I didn't expect them to blow the roof off the place because there ain't a roof at all! The sound can't be that great because of the venue...I saw them back in October at the Philips Arena in "Hot"lanta, GA and they haven't lost their "edge" at all! It was one helluva show...and they ALL (well, minus Charlie Watts who was stuck behind his drum kit) moved around the stage like a bunch of teens! I especially liked their stage that moved halfway through their set...even "Chucklin' Charlie moved! LOL!

The keyboardist above is a local fave from Macon, GA!

Unfortunately, Wilco was their opening act and they sucked! They have a lot to learn about showmanship...maybe the "Strollin' Bones" as I lovingly call them helped them on tour!

Brwn_eyes0511 02-05-2006 11:42 PM

The keyboardist is trying to be Christine with that "The Dance"ish purple blazer!

I thought it looked familiar! I will tell him when I see him...he actually has family that lives in Savannah. He'll get a kick out of that one, and I bet he's a Christine fan like we are!

Wow that is awesome! Yes...please do get his opinion on another famous keyboardist whom we all love! :woohoo:

I hate football but I would certainly try to get tickets if I knew Stevie was the entertainment:woohoo: :woohoo: Someone needs to whisper Stevie Nicks in one of those NFL's bigwigs ears:thumbsup:

Hey, the Super Bowl in 2 years is in Phoenix. Let's start a petition to have Stevie perform. The NFL people would be dumb to not include her in some fashion.

estranged4life 02-06-2006 01:39 PM

Doubtful...

if the NFL would ever ask Stevie to play the Super Bowl, The NFL tends to want artists who have a larger "worldwide" mass appeal which would better suit Fleetwood Mac moreso than Stevie.

Do I think we will ever see Fleetwood Mac play halftime of the Super Bowl? No...'No chance in hell' is my opinion. But they (Fleetwood Mac) did play a pre-Super Bowl game performance a few years back with the BTM lineup (Minus Stevie if my memory serves me right...I have that performance on DVD).

Back to the Stones, At least they did not commit musical suicide ala "Aero-Supply" (Formerly Aerosmith) by allowing 'crap entertainers' such as N'Suck & Britney Speared to sing a classic song (Walk this Way"...Forever known as "Walk this Way...To sellingout!") that permanently killed their careers in the eyes of many a faithful longtime fans like they did a few years back during a halftime performance.

The performance is from the pre-game Super Bowl XXVII show that was shown nationally, The "Behind The Mask" lineup minus Stevie-They only played one song from what my notes tell me:

Fleetwood Mac-Super Bowl XXVII Pre-game Show
Say You Love Me (Live)

Hmm cool. I'd like to see that sometime.

DavidMn 02-06-2006 02:27 PM

Hey, before we moan and groan about the Stones, let's all remember that bizarre combo a few years back of Aerosmith and Britney Spears on stage at the same time!

SteveMacD 02-06-2006 03:51 PM

Here's a pic from Superbowl 27 from Rick Vito's website. Also featured is (the great) Albert Lee and Gary Busey. Hmmm, I seem to recall Busey playing Buddy Holly once. Well, it's not the first time there was a Buddy Holly imposter playing with Fleetwood Mac.

See post #31.

Halftime "entertainment" has sucked in recent years, though the Stones were okay.

Sorry have to disagree with you on those points!! Ford Field "does " have a roof..It was a very warm 68degrees in there yesterday..although felt more like 168 degrees to me...(aghh it was to Hot) and the venue does have a great sound system..which hosts many top performing artists..Not sure what happened yesterday with the sound though ,.It was bad..but I really think it has more to do with the broadcasting stations.Did anyone see when they had the Stones play for I think it was the grammy's last year or some awards show can;t remember which one..but same thing the sound sucked big time.
I do know that the crew working with the Stones are top notch..in fact some of the same guys finished working with FM on their last tour and then Stevie on her summer tour with Don and went straight over to working with the Stones..
But hey I agree with everything else..I can only hope I can move around like Mick does at that age. and they really did put on a great great show this summer ..

wondergirl9847 02-06-2006 05:47 PM

Wierd!

Gary Busey. Alrighty.

The Super Bowl was totally fixed. Those refs were paid off and I'm not some Seahawks fan or anything, although I was rooting for them as they were the underdogs.

chiliD 02-06-2006 05:49 PM

I thought the Stones were great. Any gripes about sound should be directed at the sound engineer, the Stones themselves were giving their all. It wasn't THEIR fault that those guys that mix sound for television have a tin ear for music.

It has taken you 40 Super Bowls to figure out that one?

Thank God for Puppy Bowl II over on Animal Planet.
