the worst movie ever..

I've read threads and articles, or seen specials at E!, etc, about the worst movie. Never had a choice, there are bad movies but never chose "the worst" but.. last night...

I just saw BIRTH with Nicole Kidman. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!!! Nicole is widow for ten years and she finally accepted a new boyfriend and they are going to marry soon. Then a 10 years old boy appears saying he is the dead husband reincarnated.
Not only is a bad movie, slow, heavy. IT'S RIDICULOUS!!
Not because Nicole believed that the child is his dead husband reincarnated (that point may be ok).
Not because she doesn't want to marry her current boyfriend anymore (ok, obviously she is confused!!)
But she fell in love with the boy and got a plan to escape!! COME ON!!!

Then the boy confesses he is not the dead. It was a fake, and Nicole Kidman is disappointed. So she goes back to his boyfriend to ask forgiveness.. and HE ACCEPTED HER AGAIN  (would you??). The movie ends with the wedding, the bride crying in the sea and he comforting her.. (wow, what a beautiful wedding! they probably will live happily ever after..). It's ridiculous!!

Ok, I expected a thriller and it is not. it's a melancholic movie. Ok. But.. I insist is ridiculous!! It 's not that I prefer mainstream Hollywood movies, cause I love some european or latin movies that differs a lot from Hollywood, but in this case I don't think the director did the right thing. I'd look for more coherent stories.

I just have read some good critics about this movie, but it didn't convince me anyway. They should see some foreign movies to see what they call good pieces of art.

I saw it...and own it...and love it.

reminds me of the movie with Debra Messing, The Wedding Date I think, it was horrible and so unrealistic. everybody's f*cking everybody and you think I'm gonna marry yo ass just cause you shed few tears, bitch you better bleed - I don't think so.

Awesome. Worthy film adaptation of a true piece of work ... I'll never forget seeing it in London on stage. Summer 2004 ... best night out ever. I was picking my jaw up off the ground for a week.

I saw Birth in the theaters, bought it, and like it quite a bit. I can see where not a lot of people would like it, though; it's quite drab, dark, and cold, not to mention that some it borders on pretentiousness. That three minute close-up of Kidman takes my breath away. It's truly marvelous. Danny Huston is fantastic, too; his rage and jealousy eeks out so subtilely that when he finally explodes, it's jarring.

It's one of my favorite movies. With the exception of "The Idiots," which is unwatchable, I love Lars von Trier.

One of the reasons I love & adore Kidman so much is because she picks some pretty diverse stuff for an A-list star. Stuff that no one else with her status would touch.

I watched this movie with my mom this summer. We absolutely loved it! Our reaction was- "The best movie of all time". I think we were just shocked over the movie. The bathtub scene and then finding out the little boy was a fraud. We were really into it. Then we told my sister how great it was and she rented it and despised it. I think it is one of those movies where you either love it or you hate it.

And the worst movie of all time is Abondoned with Katie Holmes. Has anyone tried to sit through that movie?

Villavic 02-02-2006 05:47 PM

one thing is true. When you watch a movie in theaters, is quite a different experience than in tv at your bedroom. MAybe that happened to me.

I've certainly seen some stinkers on the big screen and loved them, only to realize how truly awful they were on DVD.

1) The English Patient

Then, not in order:
The Passion
Armageddon
Irreversible
Kingdom Of Heaven
War Of The Worlds (Spielberg)
The Truth About Charlie
Alfie (remake)
Cold Mountain
Under Suspicion

...and many many many others.

Romy

By far the worst movie I've ever seen is End Of Days. HIDEOUS!

I was surprised when I learned recently that one of the biggest loads of drivel I was made to sit through by a flatmate (Spank The Monkey) was made by the same guy who made a film I absolutely loved (Flirting With Disaster).

I actually liked this one. At least it made me laugh.

I'm not sure what Ms. Kidman was thinking when she agreed to do Bewitched. I loved the original series, like Nicole, and usually get a kick out of Will Ferrel, so my hopes were fairly high. But Ugh--it was terrible!

I was thinking of renting 40 Year-Old Virgin--you guys are saying I really shouldn't?

I rented 40 Year-Old Virgin a couple weeks back. I'd heard it was really funny, but I really didn't care for it. There were some parts I thought were funny, but I think it was made more for young men. That kind of humor, if you know what I mean.

On the other hand, I loved "Wedding Crashers", which many people would probably argue that it had the same kind of humor! I thought Vince Vaughn was hilarious in that movie, though.

Red 02-05-2006 10:57 PM

See, and I thought 40 year old Virgin was way funnier than Wedding Crashers, and I really like WC. I love Steve Carell and thought it was funny the whole way through. So yeah, meh, to each their own.
