something wrong with PMs?

i have PMs, says so right up there at the top of the page... i can't access them (and haven't been able to for a while) because "There seems to have been a problem with the The Ledge database." anyone know what's up?

ps, hi :wavey: my kids (all 113 of them) have eaten my free time and i can't access this site from school. that's probably for the best... ...M.

It's not just you. It's been like that on and off since Friday. Sometimes I can access PMs, sometimes not. I get that Ledge database error message too.

gldstwmn 01-29-2006 12:36 PM

They know about the problem and have been working on it. Sorry for the inconvenience. :)

Argh, this is driving me nucking futs. How am I still getting PMs if I can't even access the things? Seeing new ones in my inbox and not being able to read them is maddening, I tell you.

LuckyCharms 01-29-2006 03:51 PM

Well I'm glad it's not just me! I was begining to wonder if maybe I had cooties.

DavidMn 01-30-2006 10:59 AM

Not that you responded to my last one anyway - hooker :]

skcin 01-30-2006 01:43 PM

I was able to get mine when I accessed it through "user CP", but then when I tried to reply to a PM, it gave me that "something's wrong with the database" line. Then I tried to resend & it gave me the 60 second line. So, Livia, did it get through?

I tried that this morning, too, but it only listed the most recent one I received.

I don't get why I am getting new messages - and I can't access them. Evidently someone is able to access that part of the site.

I tried that and was able to see one of them. No dice on the others, though.

i have had multiple, so i am not sure. did you try opening, and responding (you have to submit sometimes twice)...
and then entering the user cp again for new ones?

wow...lets hope they are good ones for all the trouble huh ;)

I have had multiple too, but it's been awhile...

I am trying the reopen the CP thing. There are a few that just won't show up ! I don't know enough about networks to even understand why this wouldn't work.
Ah well, ain't the end of the world.

I went to User CP & clicked on list messages, but I'm still getting that database error message. I also haven't been able to post attachments in threads either. I wonder if that is somehow connected to the private message problem.

Edit: I just tried to upload a new avatar from my computer & it failed. It doesn't look like I can upload any files from my computer to the Ledge. I was able to upload a few pictures from my computer to ImageShack, so I don't think my computer is the problem. Is anyone else having this problem?

Fech. You need to clear out your inbox of all my deep, sycophantic professions of love & adoration so that I can send you more, but I suspect there's no way of doing it since the PM business is all fudged up.

Fat ****ing chance. Through the CP window I was unable to delete anything, so y'all are **** outta luck. As am I.

Chump that I am, I did not save your real email address.

Moony 01-31-2006 04:27 AM

Damnit, I finally get a PM and can't read it? I'm can't stand this ****!!
I'm going crazy trying to guess who sent it.

Moony, welcome to my world.

macfan 57 01-31-2006 06:51 AM

I was finally able to check my private messages again. And, I was finally able to upload a new avatar from my computer. So, those 2 problems were connected. Hopefully, they are now fixed for good.

ThePenguin 01-31-2006 06:56 AM

No, I'll likely be turning them off again shortly. As PMs are written (and apparently avatars and other attachments), they are done so in a temporary directory on the server. This directory is being exploited and hackers are installing and running IRC software from the site. I have not been able to determine how they are doing this yet so have been shutting off permissions to the directory in the interim. I cleared out all of their files but when they come back, I'll have to turn it off again. I am very aware of this problem-- everytime someone gets an error message, I get an email message. Yesterday, we got perhaps a thousand of them. There is no reason for people to keep hitting reload. If you get the error message once, you'll get it continuously for that session. Some people are just continually hitting reload which is, in turn, flooding up my inbox!
