This could get tricky
On any particular day, night, week, month, year, decade, all-time (you get it) post a song with lyrics that is meaningful to you (e.g. not necessarily every song you hear.) Here is the tricky part, if the song has already been posted within this thread :sorry: come back another time with a different selection. Please provide a little or all lyrics included to capture the essence of the song...and maybe even a bit of you.
Let's build a massive collection  If you'd like to participate, please do. On EDIT: Let's try not to insert comment posts...just the song. If you are intrigued by someone's post, send them a PM as I will bet they would like that. This may keep the thread clean during the tricky parts. If I were to insert a comment, on this edit, it would be 'Thanks Brandon for participating!' Civil War by Guns and Roses "What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach... So, you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it! Well, he gets it! N' I don't like it any more than you men." Look at your young men fighting Look at your women crying Look at your young men dying The way they've always done before Look at the hate we're breeding Look at the fear we're feeding Look at the lives we're leading The way we've always done before My hands are tied The billions shift from side to side And the wars go on with brainwashed pride For the love of God and our human rights And all these things are swept aside By bloody hands time can't deny And are washed away by your genocide And history hides the lies of our civil wars D'you wear a black armband When they shot the man Who said "Peace could last forever" And in my first memories They shot Kennedy I went numb when I learned to see So I never fell for Vietnam We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all That you can't trust freedom When it's not in your hands When everybody's fightin' For their promised land And I don't need your civil war It feeds the rich while it buries the poor Your power hungry sellin' soldiers In a human grocery store Ain't that fresh I don't need your civil war Look at the shoes your filling Look at the blood we're spilling Look at the world we're killing The way we've always done before Look in the doubt we've wallowed Look at the leaders we've followed Look at the lies we've swallowed And I don't want to hear no more My hands are tied For all I've seen has changed my mind But still the wars go on as the years go by With no love of God or human rights 'Cause all these dreams are swept aside By bloody hands of the hypnotized Who carry the cross of homicide And history bears the scars of our civil wars "WE PRACTICE SELECTIVE ANNIHILATION OF MAYORS AND GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS FOR EXAMPLE TO CREATE A VACUUM THEN WE FILL THAT VACUUM AS POPULAR WAR ADVANCES PEACE IS CLOSER" I don't need one more war |
Why It Matters
by Sara Groves Sit with me and tell me once again Of the story that's been told us Of the power that will hold us Of the beauty, of the beauty Why it matters Speak to me until I understand Why our thinking and creating Why our efforts of narrating About the beauty, of the beauty And why it matters Like the statue in the park Of this war torn town And it's protest of the darkness And the chaos all around With its beauty, how it matters How it matters Show me the love that never fails The compassion and attention Midst confusion and dissention Like small ramparts for the soul How it matters Like a single cup of water How it matters |
Children of the World
The Bee Gees We are children of the world - watching every day go by Changes my life, changes your life - keeps us all anticipating We are searchers of the truth, every man's a boy deep down Gotta say it how you mean it - there ain't no easy way Like a bird in the wind, like a tree in the storm Like the breath of a child from the moment he's born To the very last day when the curtains are drawn We are children of the world - asking every question why From arrival to survival - just to make it worth the waiting We are faces in the night - watching every day go by Changes my life, changes your life - there ain't no easy way In the back of your mind there is always a mark There's a wandering solo alone in the dark You can keep it forever or tear it apart We are children of the world - watching every day go by Changing my life, changing your life - keeps us all anticipating We are children of the world - watching every day go by Like a bird in the wind, like a tree in the storm Like the breath of a child from the moment he's born Till the very last day when the curtains are drawn We are children of the world - watching every day go by Changes my life, changes your life - keeps us all anticipating We are children of the world - watching every day go by Changes my life, changes your life - keeps us all anticipating  |
He Stopped Loving Her Today
George Jones He said "I'll love you till I die", she told him "You'll forget in time" As the years went slowly by, she still preyed upon his mind He kept her picture on his wall, went half-crazy now and then He still loved her through it all, hoping she'd come back again Kept some letters by his bed dated nineteen sixty-two He had underlined in red every single "I love you" I went to see him just today, oh but I didn't see no tears All dressed up to go away, first time I'd seen him smile in years He stopped loving her today They placed a wreath upon his door And soon they'll carry him away He stopped loving her today (Spoken) You know, she came to see him one last time. Aww, 'n' we all wondered if she would. And it kept runnin' through my mind "this time he's over her for good." He stopped loving her today They placed a wreath upon his door And soon they'll carry him away He stopped loving her today :( :xoxo: |
Lullaby For Myself
Barbra Streisand Self-contained and self-content No promises to keep I've got things so together That I just can't fall asleep Walked the night and drank the moon Got home at half past four And I knew that no one marked my time As I unlocked my door It's really lovely to discover That you like to be alone Not to owe your man an answer When he gets you on the phone Not to share a pair of pork chops When you crave champagne and cheese And your aim becomes to please yourself And not to aim to please Oh they sold me when they told me Two can live as cheap as one But I'm learning twice your earning Doesn't mean it's twice the fun If you spend each dime and all your time On someone else's schemes I'm not needy but I'm greedy And I live my deepest dreams Take an hour in the shower Use the water while it's hot in the tub A hand to scrub my back Is all I haven't got Self-aware with self-esteem Is selfishness a crime I take the day for quite a ride And I take my own sweet time Time to spare and time to share And grateful I would be If just one damn man Would share the need To be alone with me |

How Does A Duck Know?
Crash Test Dummies How does a duck know what direction south is? And how to tell his wife from all the other ducks? You can cut a chicken's head off and it will keep on running and twitching When everything seems planned out when everything seems nicely planned out well the human race will come and smack your face How come all my body parts so nicely fit together? All my organs doing their jobs, no help from me! A person pulls a spider's leg out To watch it keep on moving and twitching. When everything seems planned out when everything seems nicely planned out well the human race will come and smack your face Satan lives here: on grain and earth, rain and air. How come I just smoke and smoke and smoke and curse every butt I spit out? All night long I grind my teeth and I wake up when I cough You can put me in and iron lung and I will keep on breathing and twitching. When everything seems planned out when everything seems nicely planned out well the human race will come and smack your face You might be dead, but you keep your head. |
"For The Roses" by Joni Mitchell
I heard it in the wind last night It sounded like applause... Did you get a round resounding for you Way up here It seems like many dim years ago Since I heard that face to face.. Or seen you face to face Though tonight I can feel you here I get these notes On butterflies and lilac sprays From girls who just have to tell me They saw you somewhere... In some office sits a poet And he trembles as he sings And he asks some guy To circulate his soul around... On your mark red ribbon runner The caressing rev of motors Finely tuned like fancy women- In thirties evening gowns Up the charts- Off to the airport Your name's in the news Everything's first class The lights go down And it's just you up there... Getting them to feel like that... Remember the days when you used to sit And make up your tunes for love And pour your simple sorrow To the soundhole and your knee... And now you're seen On giant screens And at parties for the press And for people who have slices of you From the company They toss around your latest golden egg Speculation well who's to know If the next one in the nest Will glitter for them so... I guess I seem ungrateful With my teeth sunk in the hand That brings me things I really can't give up just yet Now I sit up here the critic! And they introduce some band But they seem so much confetti Looking at them on my TV set... Oh the power and the glory- Just when you're getting a taste for worship They start bringing out the hammers.... And the boards..... And the nails..... I heard it in the wind last night It sounded like applause Chilly now- end of summer No more shiny hot nights It was just the arbutus rustling And the bumping of the logs And the moon swept down black water- Like an empty spotlight |
Goodbye - Patty Griffin
Occured to me the other day You've been gone now a couple years well, I guess it takes while For someone to really disappear And I remember where I was When the word came about you It was a day much like today the sky was bright, and wide, and blue And I wonder where you are And if the pain ends when you die And I wonder if there was Some better way to say goodbye Today my heart is big and sore it's tryin' to push right through my skin I won't see you anymore I guess that's finally sinkin' in 'Cause you can't make somebody see By the simple words you say All their beauty from within Sometimes they just look away But I wonder where you are And if the pain ends when you die And I wonder if there was Some better way to say goodbye search |
The Smiths - How Soon is Now?
I am the son And the heir Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar I am the son and heir Of nothing in particular You shut your mouth How can you say I go about things the wrong way? I am human and I need to be loved Just like everybody else does I am the son And the heir Of a shyness that is criminally vulgar I am the son and heir Oh, of nothing in particular You shut your mouth How can you say I go about things the wrong way? I am human and I need to be loved Just like everybody else does Oh ... Oh ... There’s a club, if you’d like to go You could meet somebody who really loves you So you go, and you stand on your own And you leave on your own And you go home, and you cry And you want to die When you say it’s gonna happen now Well, when exactly do you mean? See, I’ve already waited too long And all my hope is gone Oh ... Oh ... You shut your mouth How can you say I go about things the wrong way? I am human and I need to be loved Just like everybody else does |
Magic (Asadoya Yunta) - Blondie
I'm hot as a fire, burning bright I feel as empty as air There is no sense of balance In the howling wind that calls to me I can feel it everywhere, but it's invisible to me Distractions and spirit find me floating in a magnetic sea The nights are phosphorescent And the days are beautiful and bright Until whispering mist - it comes falling down on me Oh, there's fire burning Looking for the magic In the night time, all this Brings the magic back to me I'm looking for the magic in the places I remember it to be It's in the night time alleys Winding through my deepest memory And just one simple thought brings the magic back to me I'm looking for the magic in the places I remember it to be And just one simple thought brings the magic back to me |

Why - Annie Lennox
How many times, do I have to try To tell you, that I'm sorry For the the things I've done? But when I start to try to tell you That's when you have to tell me Hey, this kind of trouble's Only just begun I tell myself too many times Why don't you ever learn to Keep your big mouth shut? That's why it hurts so bad, to hear the words That keep on falling from your mouth Falling from your mouth.... falling from your mouth... Tell me, why? Why? I may be mad, I may be blind I may be viciously unkind But I can still read what you're thinking And I've heard it said too many times That you'd be better off Besides, why can't you see This boat is sinking, this boat is sinking Let's go down to the water's edge And we can cast away those doubts Some things are better left unsaid But they still turn me inside out Turning inside out.... turning inside out.... Tell me, why? Why? This is the book I never read These are the words I never said This is the path I'll never tread These are the dreams I'll dream instead This is the joy that's seldom spread These are the tears, the tears we shed This is the fear, this is the dread These are the contents of my head And these are the years that we have spent And this is what they represent This is how I feel.... do you know I feel? 'Cause I don't think you know how I feel I don't think you know how I feel... |

Roll Me Away
Words and music by Bob Seger Took a look down a westbound road, Right away I made my choice Headed out to my big two-wheeler, I was tired of my own voice Took a bead on the northern plains And just rolled that power on Twelve hours out of Mackinaw City Stopped in a bar to have a brew Met a girl and we had a few drinks And I told her what I’d decided to do She looked out the window a long long moment Then she looked into my eyes She didn’t have to say a thing, I knew what she was thinkin’ Roll, roll me away, Won’t you roll me away tonight I too am lost, I feel double-crossed And I’m sick of what’s wrong and what’s right We never even said a word, We just walked out and got on that bike And we rolled And we rolled clean out of sight We rolled across the high plains Deep into the mountains Felt so good to me Finally feelin’ free Somewhere along a high road The air began to turn cold She said she missed her home I headed on alone Stood alone on a mountain top, Starin’ out at the great divide I could go east, I could go west, It was all up to me to decide Just then I saw a young hawk flyin’ And my soul began to rise And pretty soon My heart was singin’ Roll, roll me away, I’m gonna roll me away tonight Gotta keep rollin, gotta keep ridin’, Keep searchin’ till I find what’s right And as the sunset faded I spoke to the faintest first starlight And I said next time Next time We’ll get it right |
Ten Years Gone
Led Zeppelin Then as it was, then again it will be An' though the course may change sometimes Rivers always reach the sea Blind stars of fortune, each have several rays On the wings of maybe, down in birds of prey Kind of makes me feel sometimes, didn't have to grow But as the eagle leaves the nest, it's got so far to go Changes fill my time, baby, that's alright with me In the midst I think of you, and how it used to be Did you ever really need somebody, And really need 'em bad Did you ever really want somebody, The best love you ever had Do you ever remember me, baby, did it feel so good 'Cause it was just the first time, And you knew you would Through the eyes an' I sparkle, Senses growing keen Taste your love along the way, See your feathers preen Kind of makes makes me feel sometimes, Didn't have to grow We are eagles of one nest, The nest is in our soul Vixen in my dreams, with great surprise to me Never thought I'd see your face the way it used to be Oh darlin', oh darlin' I'm never gonna leave you. I never gonna leave Holdin' on, ten years gone Ten years gone, holdin' on, ten years gone |
Minneapolis
Lucinda Williams I've been waiting for you to come back Since you left Minneapolis Snow covers the streetlamps and the windowsills The buildings and the brittle crooked trees Dead leaves of December Thin skinned and splintered Never gotten used to this bitter winter I've been wasted, angry and sad Since you left Minneapolis I wish my thoughts were pure like the driven snow Like the heavens and the spring's virgin buds But they strangle me with their sin Fill me up with poison Black clouds have covered up the sun again I can always trace it back To that night in Minneapolis Here on the seventh floor in a room I can't call my own Deadbolt on the door, do not disturb sign Shaking and trembling On the clean white linen Slivers of starlight dance across the ceiling A dozen yellow roses All that's left in Minneapolis I wish I'd never seen your face or heard your voice You're a bad pain in my gut I wanna spit you out Open up this wound again Let my blood flow red and thin Into the glistening Into the whiteness Into the melting snow of Minneapolis |
Enya (Armantine)
If I could be where you are.. Where are you this moment? Only in my dreams You're missing ,but you're always a heart beat away from me I'm lost now, without you I don;t know where you are I keep watching ,I keep hoping but time keeps us apart. Is there a way I can find you Is there a sign I should know Is there a road I could follow To bring you back home? Winter lies before me Now you're so far away In the darkness of my dreaming the light of you will stay If I could be close beside you If I could be where you are If I could reach out and touch you And bring you back home. Is there a way I can find you Is there a sign I should know Is there a road I can follow To bring you back home to me.. |

Anything For You - Gloria Estefan
Anything for you Though you're not here Since you said we're through It seems like years Time keeps draggin on and on And forever's been and gone Still I can't figure what went wrong I'd still do anything for you I'll play your game You hurt me through and through But you can have your way I can pretend each time I see you That I don't care and I don't need you And though you'll never see me cryin' You know inside I feel like dying And I'd do anything for you In spite of it all I've learned so much from you You made me strong But don't you ever think that I don't love you That for one minute I forgot you But sometimes things don't work out right And you just have to say goodbye I hope you find somone to please you Somone who'll care and never leave you But if that someone ever hurts you You just might need a friend to turn to And I'd do anything for you I'll give you up If that's what I should do To make you happy I can pretend each time I see you That I don't care and I don't need you And though inside I feel like dying You know you'll never see me crying Don't you ever think that I don't love you That for one minute I forgot you But sometimes things don't work out right And you just have to say goodbye |
Waters of March by Antonio Carlos Jobim (the original brazilian version is way better though)
A stick, a stone, It's the end of the road, It's the rest of a stump, It's a little alone It's a sliver of glass, It is life, it's the sun, It is night, it is death, It's a trap, it's a gun The oak when it blooms, A fox in the brush, A knot in the wood, The song of a thrush The wood of the wind, A cliff, a fall, A scratch, a lump, It is nothing at all It's the wind blowing free, It's the end of the slope, It's a beam, it's a void, It's a hunch, it's a hope And the river bank talks of the waters of March, It's the end of the strain, The joy in your heart The foot, the ground, The flesh and the bone, The beat of the road, A slingshot's stone A fish, a flash, A silvery glow, A fight, a bet, The range of a bow The bed of the well, The end of the line, The dismay in the face, It's a loss, it's a find A spear, a spike, A point, a nail, A drip, a drop, The end of the tale A truckload of bricks in the soft morning light, The shot of a gun in the dead of the night A mile, a must, A thrust, a bump, It's a girl, it's a rhyme, It's a cold, it's the mumps The plan of the house, The body in bed, And the car that got stuck, It's the mud, it's the mud Afloat, adrift, A flight, a wing, A hawk, a quail, The promise of spring And the riverbank talks of the waters of March, It's the promise of life It's the joy in your heart A stick, a stone, It's the end of the road It's the rest of a stump, It's a little alone A snake, a stick, It is John, it is Joe, It's a thorn in your hand and a cut in your toe A point, a grain, A bee, a bite, A blink, a buzzard, A sudden stroke of night A pin, a needle, A sting, a pain, A snail, a riddle, A wasp, a stain A pass in the mountains, A horse and a mule, In the distance the shelves rode three shadows of blue And the riverbank talks of the waters of March, It's the promise of life in your heart, in your heart (and so on...) Romy |
Happy, the End by The Innocence Mission (Karen Peris)
"In this story... We sit down on Luna Bridge... And catch snow in our cupped hands And music is..... Coming from the houses or it sings Inside me, I begin to mend... Oh happy... oh happy.... The end, the end, the end.... In this painting... The whole world is navy blue.... I run home from the mailbox in all... The dim of five o'clock to see you... Cars and trees go by me, You are in the yard And in my arms again.... Oh happy... oh happy.... The end, the end, the end... Happy, oh happy... The end......." |
Night Comes In
by Richard Thompson Night comes in Like some cool river How can there be Be another day Take my hand O real companion And we’ll dance We’ll dance ‘till we fade away O the songs Pour down like silver They can only Only break my heart Drink the wine The wine of lovers Lovers tired of being apart Dancing ‘till my feet don’t touch the ground I lose my mind and dance forever Lose my mind and dance forever Turn my world around Turn my world around O this night Is like no other And this room Is ringing in my ears And these friends Will never leave me And these tears Are like no other tears Dancing ‘till my feet don’t touch the ground I lose my mind and dance forever Lose my mind and dance forever Turn my world around Turn my world around Well I may find That street tomorrow Leave the shadow Of my lonely room See my one My one and only Heart and soul I’m coming soon |
My Antonia by Emmylou Harris
He said "Oh my love. Oh my Antonia You with the dark eyes and palest of skin Tonight I am going from Santa Maria Wait for me till I'm in your arms once again" She held me, she kissed me, begged me not to leave her To cross on the mountain my fortune to win But a letter now tells me she died of a fever I'll never see her in this world again You are my sorrow, you are my splendor You are my shelter through storm and through strife You are the one I will always remember All off the days of my life I curse the ambition that took me far from her For a treasure not ever so fine or so fair As the flash of her smile or the touch of her fingers The fire in her heart and the smell of her hair She left me a note that cried "Do not weep for me Behold you are with me as sure as the stars That rise in the evening to shine down upon me Behold I am with you wherever you are" I can still hear him, he calls to me only What once was begotten shall come to no end But the road is so long and the nights are so lonely My soul just to hold him in this world again You are my sorrow, you are my splendor You are my shelter through storm and through strife You are the one I will always remember All of the days of my life Oh my love, Oh my Antonia You with the dark eyes and palest of skin How could I know that night in Santa Maria I'd never see you in this world again |
one of my favorite songs and for sure my favorite by Kate Bush
Cloudbusting - Kate Bush (Hounds of Love album) I still dream of Orgonon. I wake up crying. You're making rain, And you're just in reach, When you and sleep escape me. You're like my yo-yo That glowed in the dark. What made it special Made it dangerous, So I bury it And forget. But every time it rains, You're here in my head, Like the sun coming out-- Ooh, I just know that something good is going to happen. And I don't know when, But just saying it could even make it happen. On top of the world, Looking over the edge, You could see them coming. You looked too small In their big, black car, To be a threat to the men in power. I hid my yo-yo In the garden. I can't hide you From the government. Oh, God, Daddy-- I won't forget, 'Cause every time it rains, You're here in my head, Like the sun coming out-- Ooh, I just know that something good is going to happen. And I don't know when, But just saying it could even make it happen. The sun's coming out. Your son's coming out. |
Never Make Me Cry - Christine McVie
Go and do what you want I know that you have the need You know that I'll wait, as long as it takes So go and do what you want You'll never make me You'll never make me You'll never make me cry I may not mean everything But I'm happy to have your love So don't worry baby, I'll be alright And I'll never make you I'll never make you I'll never make you cry. |
Catalyst - Anna Nalick
L.A. lights Never shine quite as bright as in the movies Still wanna go Cause something here In the way that we're constantly moving Reminds you of home So you're taking these pills For to fill up your soul And you're drinking them down with cheap alcohol And I'd be inclined to be yours for the taking And part of this terrible mess that you're making But me... I'm the catalyst When you say love Is a simple chemical reaction Can't say I agree 'Cause my chemicals, yeah Left me a beautiful disaster Still love's all I see So I'm taking these pills for to fill up my soul And I'm drinking them down with cheap alcohol And you'd be inclined to be mine for the taking And part of this terrible mess that I'm making But you... you're the catalyst You'll be the vein, you'll be the pain, you'll be the scar You'll be the road rolling below the wheels of a car And all of your thoughts on God... Don't know if I'm strong enough, no You'll be the vein, you'll be the pain, you'll be the catalyst These L.A. lights They don't shine quite as bright as back in 'Frisco Do you wanna though.... Still wanna go? |
"Trouble Child"
by Joni Mitchell Up in a sterilized room Where they let you be lazy Knowing your attitude's all wrong And you got to change And that's not easy Dragon shining with all values known Dazzling you, keeping you from your own Where is the lion in you to defy him When you're this weak and this spacey So what are you gonna do about it You can't live life and you can't leave it Advice and religion, you can't take it You can't seem to believe it The peacock is afraid to parade You're under the thumb of the maid You really can't give love in this condition Still, you know how you need it They open and close you Then they talk like they know you They don't know you They're friends and they're foes, too Trouble child Breaking like the waves at Malibu So why does it come as such a shock To know you really have no one Only a river of changing faces Looking for an ocean They trickle through your leaky plans Another dream over the dam And you're lying in some room Feeling like your right to be human Is going over, too Well some are gonna knock you And some will try and clock you You know, it's really hard to talk sense to you Trouble child Breaking like the waves at Malibu |
I Don't Stand a Ghost of a Chance With You
(performed by Billie Holiday) I need your love so badly I love you, oh so madly But I don't stand a ghost of a chance With you I thought at last I found you But other loves surround you And I don't stand a ghost of a chance With you If you'd surrender Just for a tender kiss or two You might discover That I'm the lover meant for you And I'll be true But what's the good of scheming I know I must be dreaming For I don't stand a ghost of a chance With you |
What It Takes
Tyler/Perry/D.Child Oh... yeah There goes my old girlfriend There's a-nother diamond ring And of all those late night promises I guess they don't mean a thing So baby what's the story Did'cha a find another man Is it easy to sleep in the bed that we made When you don't look back I guess The feelings start to fade away I used to feel your fire But now it's cold inside And you're back on the street Like you didn't miss a beat yeah Tell me what it takes to let you go Tell me how the pain's supposed to go Tell me how it is that you can sleep In the night without thinkin' you lost Everything that was good in your life To the toss of the dice Tell me what it takes to let you go Yeah Girl before I met you I was F.I.N.E. fine But your love made me a prisoner Yeah my heart's been doin' time You spent me up like money A then ya hung me out to dry It was easy to keep all your lies in disguise 'Cause you had me in deep With the devil in your eyes Tell me what it takes to let you go... oooh Tell me how the pain's supposed to go Tell me how it is that you can sleep In the night without thinkin' you lost Everything that was good in your life To the toss of the dice Tell me what it takes to let you go Tell me that'chor happy that'chor on your own Yeah yeah yeah Tell me that it's better when you're all alone Tell me that your body doesn't miss my touch Tell me that my lovin' didn't mean that much Tell me you ain't dying When you're cryin' for me Tell me what it takes to let you go... oooh Tell me how the pain's supposed to go... yeah And tell me how it is that you can sleep In the night without thinkin' you lost Everything that was good in your life To the toss of the dice Tell me who's to blame for thinkin' twice... no no no no 'Cause I don't wanna burn in paradise Oooh... I don't I don't no I don't wanna burn in paradise Let it go let it go... I don't wanna burn.... |
Patience
Guns N' Roses One, two, one, two, three, four (whistle) Shed a tear 'cause I'm missing you I'm still alright to smile Girl, I think about you every day now Was a time when I wasn't sure But you set my mind at ease There is no doubt you're in my heart now Said, "woman, take it slow and it'll work itself out fine All we need is just a little patience" Said, "sugar, make it slow and we'll come together fine All we need is just a little patience" Patience, mm... yeah I sit here on the stairs 'cause I'd rather be alone If I can't have you right now, I'll wait, dear Sometimes I get so tense, but I can't speed up the time But you know, love, there's one more thing to consider Said, "woman, take it slow and things will be just fine You and I'll just use a little patience" Said, "sugar, take the time 'cause the lights are shining bright You and I've got what it takes to make it We won't fake it, oh, I'll never break it 'Cause I can't take it" (whistle) (Little patience, mm, yeah, mm, yeah) (Need a little patience, yeah...) (Just a little patience, yeah...) (Some more patience, yeah...) I've been walking the streets at night Just tryin' to get it right (need some patience, yeah...) It's hard to see with so many around You know, I don't like being stuck in the crowd (could use some patience, yeah...) And the streets don't change but, baby, the names I ain't got time for the game (gotta have some patience, yeah...) 'Cause I need you yeah, yeah, but I need you, ooh... (all it takes is patience, yeah...) I need you, ooh... (just a little patience, ooh...) I need you, ooh... (is all you need) This time... |
Morning Song To Sally
Jerry Jeff Walker As the morning light stretched in across my bed I thought of you Remembering your laughing eyes and all we said I love you too As all my thoughts of you pass 'fore my face a thousand times The way they race my heart... I cannot say it all in lines How the short time together lasts so long Makes me strong As two weeks came and went then you and I were gone Living on For it seems our love was destined to be caught in other nets But the love we held so brief I'd chance again without regret Yes, standing by the road has been my song before Much too long But now somehow I'm forced to see me there once more And that's the song For my waking thoughts of you are but extensions of the dream Without you here beside me I'll never know all that they mean As the morning light stretched in across my bed I thought of you Remembering your laughing eyes and all we said I love you too As all my thoughts of you pass 'fore my face a thousand times The way they race my heart... I cannot say it all in lines |
"Learning to Fly" - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Well I started out down a dirty road Started out all alone And the sun went down as I crossed the hill And the town lit up, the world got still I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings Coming down is the hardest thing Well the good ol' days may not return And the rocks might melt and the sea may burn I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings Coming down is the hardest thing Well some say life will beat you down Break your heart, steal your crown So I've started out for God knows where I guess I'll know when I get there I'm learning to fly, around the clouds But what goes up must come down I'm learning to fly, but I ain't got wings Coming down is the hardest thing |
"Time" by Tom Waits
Well the smart money's on harlow and the moon is in the street And the shadow boys are breaking all the laws And you're east of east saint louis and the wind is making speeches And the rain sounds like a round of applause And napoleon is weeping in a carnival saloon His invisible fiancee's in the mirror And the band is going home, it's raining hammers, it's raining nails And it's true there's nothing left for him down here And it's time time time, and it's time time time And it's time time time that you love And it's time time time And they all pretend they're orphans and their memory's like a train You can see it getting smaller as it pulls away And the things you can't remember tell the things you can't forget That history puts a saint in every dream Well she said she'd stick around until the bandages came off But these mama's boys just don't know when to quit And mathilda asks the sailors "are those dreams or are those prayers?" So close your eyes, son, and this won't hurt a bit Oh it's time time time, and it's time time time And it's time time time that you love And it's time time time Well things are pretty lousy for a calendar girl The boys just dive right off the cars and splash into the street And when they're on a roll she pulls a razor from her boot And a thousand pigeons fall around her feet So put a candle in the window and a kiss upon his lips As the dish outside the window fills with rain Just like a stranger with the weeds in your heart And pay the fiddler off 'til i come back again Oh it's time time time, and it's time time time And it's time time time that you love And it's time time time And it's time time time, and it's time time time And it's time time time that you love And it's time time time |

"Notebook" -by The Innocence Mission (Karen Peris)
I showed him my notebook The underside of my soul released In scribbles on pages He smiled and held my hand... I knew that he would see For he dreams of touching beauty, too There has to be more than... the work day.... He's painting houses... He's painting houses for awhile Then home to his canvas Coming to life.... I write in my notebook With feeling that takes me by surprise And thoughts that I don't know... I have They're hidden by useless facts that I've Compiled at the office where I work Where there is no time for feeling... anything.... You see, I just work there To finance my real life that begins With scribbles on pages And thoughts of "how" and "when".... yeah.... Museums on Sundays Whenever we can we both go And stay there for hours Feeding... our spirits.... Beauty is still free Beauty is not exclusive Beauty is ours to... touch and to know To touch and know.... Don't you think there's more? I really have to know Don't you think there's more to life? Don't you think there's more to life? |
Another beautiful Emmylou Harris song:
Hour of Gold I have seen your soul turn black And then retreat To that dark place where no one else may follow I waited here for your returning To roll your cigarette And wash your bloodied feet You have heard the silent running Of my dreams Broke me from the grip of grief and fever With the sound of your voice speaking my name And a kiss That I will feel forever In the hour of gold, the hour of lead We did forge our wedding bed On a hard and holy road We lay down our head In tha hour of gold, the hour of lead I have watched you riding on The wall of death And when it finally breaks you and you fall I will tear this dress of muslin that you gave me To bind the fatal wound And catch your last sweet breath In the hour of gold, the hour of lead We did forge our wedding bed On a hard and holy road We lay down our head In the hour of gold, the hour of lead But the world will be my witness When they excavate my heart And find the image of your face Imprinted there like some Shroud of Turin That neither time nor tundra could erase In the hour of gold, the hour of lead We did forge our wedding bed On a hard and holy road We lay down our head In the hour of gold, the hour of lead |
"Rain" by Patty Griffin
It's hard to listen to a hard hard heart Beating close to mine Pounding up against the stone and steel Walls that I won't climb Sometimes a hurt is so deep deep deep You think that you're gonna drown Sometimes all I can do is weep weep weep With all this rain falling down Strange how hard it rains now Rows and rows of big dark clouds When I'm holding on underneath this shroud Rain Its hard to know when to give up the fight Two things you want will just never be right Its never rained like it has tonight before Now I don't wanna beg you baby For something maybe you could never give I'm not looking for the rest of your life I just want another chance to live Strange how hard it rains now Rows and rows of big dark clouds When I'm holding on underneath this shroud Rain Strange how hard it rains now Rows and rows of big dark clouds When I'm still alive underneath this shroud Rain Rain Rain |
Little God
by Patty Griffin Good morning little god I see you've come for me again With a noose between your teeth You are not my friend Pouring little cups of tea Humming a little tune You sit across from me And fill my little room Little god Smoke is in the air From your little cigarettte You tell me to throw the fight Go and place your little bet Shake, little god Shake your little fists All the strippers think you're odd But you leave the biggest tips Little god Where oh where did I leave myself today On the bed, on the chair Did I send myself away On a sleepy afternoon Will I be returning soon Laugh your little laugh Stomp your little feet They sulk behind your back, All the people that you meet They say time is running out And you don't know what to do And I hear them talk about Another place but not with you Little god Little god Little god Little god Little god |
Forgotten
Linkin Park From the top to the bottom Bottom to top I stop At the core I’ve forgotten In the middle of my thoughts Taken far from my safety The picture is there The memory won’t escape me But why should I care There’s a place so dark you can’t see the end Skies cock back and shock that which can’t defend The rain then sends dripping an acidic question Forcefully, the power of suggestion Then with the eyes shut looking thought the rust and rot And dust a small spot of light floods the floor And pours over the rusted world of pretend The eyes ease open and its dark again Moving all around screaming of the ups and downs Pollution manifested in perpetual sound The wheels go round and the sunset creeps behind Street lamps, chain-link and concrete A little piece of paper with a picture drawn floats On down the street till the wind is gone The memory now is like the picture was then When the paper’s crumpled up it can’t be perfect again Now you got me caught in the act You bring the thought back I’m telling you that I see it right through you In the memory you’ll find me Eyes burning up The darkness holding me tightly Until the sun rises up |
