"Ooh, My Love" Appreciation Thread
Could you imagine if Stevie actually had the cajones to pull out "Ooh, My Love" for her full orchestra deal in Australia?!?!?!!!
I think it's her most romantic song, ever. I'd love to see her pour some emotion into this most overlooked gem live in concert. Wouldn't you??? |

I love the song. My favourite part is towards the end where she says "It was a strain on me...." Beautiful!
yes, i would love to see it in concert. Maybe it could replace "After the Glitter Fades", ive never understood why she sings this at alot of her gigs, this song is below average to me :sorry: |
It's my favorite from OSOTM.
She says walls too much, though. |

Though, I cannot escape the image of her saying "ooooo - my love" instead of belting it above the measure. |
It's one of my favorite songs from OSOTM. I'd love for her to sing it live.

For a long time, I did not appreciate "Ooh My Love" at all. In fact, I thought it was a contender for her worst song ever. Then I got my hands on an outtake of it.
http://s59.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2...X0MOZPULI1964N Now I like it, and this is the version that I think of as the true "Ooh My Love". It is heavy with synthesizers, which propels the song. Then at the bridge, there is this skittering beat overlapping Stevie's "rapping". (I remember someone describing it as a rap. Pretty funny.) |

I respect the "appreciation" part of the thread, so I'll just say I think the melody is nice. And I would love for her to do it live, just to hear something different. It would sound nice with an orchestra.

I loved this song even before I knew about the album, OSOTM. This would be great for her to do in AUS. Like Diss said it doesn't require much vocal strain and she DID put it on Enchanted so she knows it exists.
|
how can you not like this song? it's so pretty...for me, it's a home run, great melody, great vocal, great lyrics...
I would love to hear this live just once. |
The Greta/Ooh My Love opening medley with the MSO...ahhh that would make me cry.

You know, in every single Stevie birthday greeting and holiday greeting that I send through Nicksfix, I always mention something about doing Ooh My Love. I love this song, and not only would she not really have to strain to do this song, I think that with her voice lowered the way it is these days, her lower voice might put some extra power into the song. It's like Silver Springs then and 1997 -- since her voice was lowered, she had to put more effort into the WHOLE song, therefore making it sound a lot more powerful. I mean honestly, even if you don't like the song, how could you not like the part when she sings "Hey hey baby, no one can take you away from me, no, no one!" She sounds so emotional during that part of the song.
The only thing about Ooh My Love is, I don't understand how some of ya'll think of it as a love song. I mean, yeah, it's a song about her loving someone, but it's also a song about that person waiting for her to fall to pieces, and her remembering how good they USED to have it. |

And Stevie coos, "My love......" and then.... "In the shadow of the castle walls...." Chill City, baby. |

In the shadow of the castle walls, wherever those walls were Well, he used to love to be behind those walls with her Obviously, no matter where she's off to, the person used to love to be with her. He loved being in her "kingdom," or in this case, "queendom." Within these walls, well he watched from the corridor Watched from the corner of his eye Seemingly waiting for the time When her castle walls would all fall down But then there came a time when he wanted her to fail, like he knew it was coming and was waiting for it. There is a different interpretation that I wonder about, which is much more pleasant. This interp. involves the "walls" being like the guard Stevie put up around herself so no one could get too close to her. But she let this guy in those walls, and he's waiting for her just to let it go, let her guard down and let her walls fall for everyone...to show that she is vulnerable. After all, she also talks about her "walls" in Smile at You. And even the first two lines of the chorus reflects this, but then the rest of the song doesn't quite fit it too well. So, back to my first interp. Yes, it was a strain on her Watching her castles fall down Oh oh, but there was a time when he called her Angel Where in the world did you come from First two lines obvious, but then you get this line where he USED to call her Angel, where did you come from. These two lines seem to me that she's saying "this guy used to be so loving and supportive, and now he's loving the fact that I'm falling apart. Where did THIS guy come from?" There was a light that lighted the way to the chamber Where they spend all their time Then there's the bridge, again showing there was once love, but it's gone. There WAS a light, but it's burnt out. The love is gone. So, I guess this song CAN be taken to be romantic if you go with the second interpretation that I mentioned...about the guy wanting her to just let go of her guard. However, I like my first interpretation more, if only because it better explains the last two lines of the chorus. I don't see how else those lines could be taken. |

And our separation way on down the line... Well they just can't wait, can they? No they just can't wait... Hey, hey, baby...No one can take you away from me...no...no one... |

Bleh..... I am really tired. |
I really like this song, to me its such a sad song. It's basically saying that everything around you is falling apart and theres nothing you can really do. Your basically a shadow of yourself left reminiscing about the good times and wondering where did all this trouble come from.
I' love for Stevie give this song new life. |

I love this song. Once again, one of many Stevie missed oportunities, as I believe this should have been the 2nd single (with accompanying video!!) This song is so catchy & had THE sound of late 80s pop written all over it! I worked at a retail record store, during my college years, when OSOTM was released. And of course I played this record every chance I got, to my managers consternation! And even she could not get this song out of her head, as she went about humming the chorus...lingering long after the record finished playing. |
Love this song, love love love. Would love to hear it with an orchestra and see if more people appreciated it - so many people are put off by the very 80s production of TOSOTM.
