Jay Leno's attitude towards Stevie -

HI all - somebody mentioned in another thread that a picture was from Stevie's performance of "Blue Denim" on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and it made me remember something I've been wondering about - The few times that Stevie has been on Jay Leno, has it seemed to anyone else that Jay's behavior towards Stevie was somewhat "cold?" As if he doesn't like her or something???

Angelick Witch 01-19-2006 05:18 PM

Ooh! CONSPIRACY!!

Yes, I've seen this. It is extra apparent when you see her on Letterman who LOVES her. :D

Janis_no1 01-19-2006 06:50 PM

Boy guys, i'd just love to see an interview.... stop rubbing it in :distress:

Livia 01-19-2006 07:03 PM

He was fascinated with her Blue Denim era hair - wanting to know how she got it that way.

He bugs. I adore Letterman!!!

Janis_no1 01-19-2006 07:07 PM

Now lets get a video up on youtube!! woohoo

This is true. Leno does seem cold.

There are eight pages worth of Stevie videos up on YouTube, including the performances of "Blue Denim" on both Leno and Letterman, as well as the accompanying interview with Letterman.

I don't know if I'd say it was "cold" or if it was because it was Stevie. I just thought it was a horrible interview. I have noticed that Jay Leno is that way a lot. He seems to have a lack of knowledge or interest about a lot of his guests from what I have seen, and I don't think he's very funny either. He did spend just about the whole interview, which was very short, talking about her hair.

Yeah, I was just going to say that. He always asks lame, non insightful, shallow, moronic questions. Like, he'll keep talking about how beautiful some actress is, and fawn over her with stupid sex jokes, instead of asking questions. The only time he's interested is if it's another guy who likes motorcycles and cars. He's a dullard.
Plus, he's a Taurus, which isn't good with Gemini, whereas Letterman is an Aries, which is. Oh, plus David is a good interviewer. :p

sparky 01-19-2006 07:41 PM

Leno is a yabbering, snickering jackass. A horrible interviewer of everyone.
His clown show schtick bugs.

I think the Big Chill was flowing from Stevie to Leno, not from Leno to Stevie. think Leno was essentially uninterested in Stevie (referring here to the 1994 appearance), & Stevie sensed that. So she didn't open up with her usual gregariousness.

I haven't seen more than twenty Leno interviews from the Tonight Show, but I have never seen one where Leno can be said to have been a great host. He's just one of thousands of people I look at in the entertainment industry & wonder, "How did this person get here?"

sara1998 01-19-2006 08:41 PM

I never liked Leno to begin with. I've watched Letterman since I was a kid. He so much more...personable. Leno's a schmuck. Anyhow, I've never watched said interview with Stevie, but I don't doubt he was cold and uninterested.

BombaySapphire3 01-19-2006 08:53 PM

I thought her best talk show interview ever was the on Rosie O' Donnell show.

GypsyBoy87 01-19-2006 09:19 PM

omg! i was just thinking about this! like when FM preformed on there during SYW, he would go over and shake everyones hands before going to commercial, EXCEPT stevies, he would act like she wasnt there...pissed me off!

rbs3676 01-19-2006 09:23 PM

I hate Leno. He's an idiot.

LOVE Dave...I wanna marry someone like him someday...He clearly loves Stevie
(He also adores CHER and their nights together are CLASSIC)

rbs

ShangriLaTroubl 01-19-2006 10:00 PM

I dont really notice any coldness from Jay to Stevie, he's pretty dry, and he's like that with all of his guests..I liked his interview of Stevie and Sheryl together in 2001..

Chris

Red 01-19-2006 11:29 PM

Yep, I saw it too. Cold Leno. Cold, cooooold Leno. Bastard.

Actually, he shook her hand.

Thank you!
hehehehe.
But seriously, I could see how his dull head would never get Stevie's thing at all, or think it was impracticle and airy fairy shmairy hairy and lame. I don't get the sense he cares or knows about music much in general, either. Too bad Stevie can't talk about motorcycles...
I just realized for some reason I really like talking about how lame Leno is, and in what way. Now I understand you Cruise haters and your vitriolic spewage.

Hey, hey, can you find a pic where stevie resembles a sea lion? Or a porpoise? You know, like the Anderson/Mouse/Dog pics? She's kind of like those show dolphins that twirl and jump, and then get fish fed to them. Only she gets money, instead.
sorry, when I thought of her arm as a flipper i spit my tea....still laughing...you know that always gets me...

I don't recall her singing Blue Denim On Leno. I do recall her singing it on Letterman.

EDIT: Am I the only one who thinks that Stevie and her back-up singers' synchronized we're-walkin'-on-the-treadmill "dance" looks really stupid? (Actually it's not until the first "Well I'm going away..." coda that Stevie even remotely resembles the rock star she's supposed to be.)

David 01-20-2006 12:42 PM

Greatness. Simple greatness. Waddling greatness.

Jay Leno is utterly superfluous. As is Paul Reiser.

Only the seal rises to the Stevie occasion.

Am I the only one who finds the whole thing painful to watch? She looks so uncomfortable to even be there; she doesn't seem to be enjoying herself at all. She appears as if she's on sedatives up until the coda you mentioned and has a wide-eyed look of pure terror & embarrassment on her face.

I don't really see that. She looks pretty happy actually and even smiles several times. Also, the performance is pretty good if you ask me. I remember when I saw her during the SA tour I really noticed a marked improvement in her voice compared to Timespace and TOSOTM tours.

Her performance is a different animal from her vocals. I quite like that period of her voice and the Leno is appearance is no exception, but that performance is dry & stale, and she looks noticeably unhappy to these eyes.

I found it mildly painful, mostly because of the hair and the dress and the treadmill dance, though. But yeah, she does look uncomfortable, and up until that coda all I was thinking was, "****, she must have really been hitting the Klonopin back in the green room." She really breaks out of it in a great way for the coda, but the second the song is over, she turns back into a zombie.

I don't know about terror or embarrassment - she looks too zonked out to really be feeling either of those. I mean, this a woman who's claiming that she gets up at one in the afternoon every day but doesn't really "get going" until showtime at nine. Shoot, I need a little while to wake up in the morning too, but eight hours?

I just watched this video and have to agree...she looks to be on some kind of drug. Unfortunately, I couldn't hear the performance or Leno's interview because this computer doesn't have speakers right now. Also, she really looks heavy...her face is chubby. I've never seen her this way before.

I think so, b/c the title of one of the segments is "Rosie sings Stevie Nicks Songs"

Jay Leno has real balls (though I suspect they're in his chin).

Would you intentionally piss off someone who wears five-inch platform heels all the time?

Sahara 01-20-2006 05:50 PM

That Leno interview was .... dreadful. But very funny because Stevie just doesn't respond.

LENO: "I saw you before, you had it, like, in cornrow kinda deals."
STEVIE: [silent nodding]
LENO: "And, oh, I thought you were wearing it like..."
STEVIE: [more nodding]
LENO: "And that's how you get it...?"
STEVIE: ........
LENO: "I know nothing about women's hair..."

But from what I see of Letterman and Leno [not much!] Letterman is much better. Even when he bashes the CDs off the desk and refers to everyone as 'kids!'

I don't know if it's true or not.
