Classes?

In honor of the fact that i've just survived writing my 46 page research paper (complete with 135 surveys, tally sheets, the lot) and will never have to take a course with this woman again, i'm treating myself to a far less difficult semester and taking two music courses and two communication courses (I declared vocal music as my minor :blob1: ) comes Spring. What are you all doing next semester?

eclipse 11-26-2005 07:10 PM

classes

I am out of college
However, I am still in school...
I am the Secretary to the Principal of an elementary school..in a small town in the woods of New Hampshire.
Enjoying my 4 days off for Thanksgiving...which is Thanksgiving enough...
But I think for the next course of classes, I may pursue Spanish...
but then again, I may also just come home at the end of the day... and drink Fabulous wine, eat Fabulous food and spend time with my Fabulous husband... or take Spanish classes?....

The scales of my weighty decision,? they just keep going back and forth
We'll see
enjoy the music- How can you not really??
hugs,

I am way out of school, but am planning on taking a Photoshop and Vectorworks class - classes that are offered by the studio where I work. I am looking forward to both in a big way. Great classes. And free !

I am not in school but I am thinking about taking a few computer classes at a local college next semester. I took some classes back in 2001 and I would really like to get just a certificate but I am not sure if it is in the cards for me.

No hablo espanol  Lord, was I was horrible. Much better at French because the verbs weren't nearly as crazy so if you can master Spanish, thumbs up to you. Of course, when you add all the fabulousness, it doesn't sound like Spanish classes would be all that great

Yep, History of Jazz and History of Music and the Stage. Then, theory and vocal like crazy come the fall. I'm stoked

Are you still taking the photography classes?

I belong to a photography club. It is not really a class but just a bunch of people who get together and talk about photography. I really want to take a few desktop publishing and computer classes but like I said I don't know if it is in the cards.
It all depends ironically if I do end up getting the computer room job. This job was posted back on Columbus Day week and we still don't what is going on with it.

jannieC 11-26-2005 07:56 PM

I recently graduated and am trying to get into Graduate School this fall. I feel for you with the massive paper. My Senior Seminar paper was 42 pages long. AND I had to give a two hour presentation to go along with it. Hell, I say. Congratulations on getting through it. :wavey:

Well I am fresh out of nursing school, so I am all classed out for awhile. I do want to go back eventually and get my master's to be a nurse midwife, though.

Amber, what is Psych 26?

dissention 11-26-2005 09:31 PM

I am heavily debating taking a French class. I've been trying to learn it myself since the spring and while I've learned a lot, I can't do it on my own, dammit.

Applied Psychology:
Critical exploration of psychological theory and research as it applies to everyday goals and concerns. It's a requirement for my major.

Thanks, Jannie. This will probably be my easiest class of all, though. And/or my most interesting. It's the only non law class I get to take. I find psych pretty interesting, too.
Why don't any lawyers ever offer to help me with my homework???

sasja 11-26-2005 11:47 PM

Dissention, find a French Conversation class... They helped me sooo much with my languages! And are fun too!

No longer in school here either, but in the school-of-life class of learning how to be a mom and taking care of our infant son with colic, and man! Is that ever harder than any course I ever took! :(

Fly by, time! Fly fly fly!

Meh, all you really need to know is:

-Je m'apelle (your name here)
-Ou est le (destination of choice)
-vin (wine)
-haute couture

There, I just save you a LOT of argent ($).

I graduated from Art College back in '99 majoring in Visual Communications but I'm now taking distance education to become an Accredited Jeweller from the Gemological Institute of America (ooh la la!). My next exam is in Coloured Stones followed by the Diamond course. A little anxiety over that but I'm actually really exited about that.

JazmenFlowers 11-27-2005 10:49 PM

well, I dropped out of grad school. sad, yes, but very true.

mainly because I was attending a private Christian college (there is only one public university here and it sucks) and every class was either a gay bashing or some other offensive discussion where they pulled out the bible and showed how Shakespeare is similar to the bible and blah blah blah and I got freakin tired of hearing it...so no school for me

I'm trying to decide what to do next, if anything

sara1998 11-28-2005 09:17 PM

How do you all decide on what you want to do when you grow up?? I'm almost 30, and I'm proud to say I've graduated HS. I'm seriously considering taking classes in something. But I dont' know what. This is why I never went to college...:distress:

ontheEdgeof17 11-28-2005 09:19 PM

....possible Masters next fall....

....until then, NO CLASSES. Believe me, though, I'd rather be in college. My career is rough.

I went back to college when I was 28 and finished last year when I was 36. Late bloomer, and all. Take a couple of classes that seem interesting and go from there. I always knew what I wanted, I just didn't think I was smart enough to do it. I graduated with a 3.8 while working full-time! The feeling of pride and accomplishment were worth every year of tears and exhaustion. Now I just have to get myself pumped up for graduate school. :|

Med-Surg.

All hodge-podge. All the time.

I do enjoy it, but it is stressful at times. 12 to 16 hour shifts don't help much, either.

Good luck with graduate school... maybe that's my problem. I'm scared I'm not smart enough to do school....

But you are! I was a horrible student in High School. For me, what I lacked in intelligence, I made up for in determination. I don't think college is for everyone. I don't think anyone is less of a person for not doing it. But if the desire is there for you, you should give it a try. You may surprise yourself. :)

This is going to sound silly, but something that helped me was these strange aptitude tests I took in High School. They tested your actual intelligence skills and your interests and spit out possible jobs. There must be something on the internet now that approximates this. The ones I took told me to be a writer, a forest ranger, or an entertainer ! What a combo. Interestingly enough, I have ended up doing a bit of all three.

My best advice - pursue what you love and what doesn't feel like drudgery.
If you can choose a career that brings you joy - it doesn't seem like work.

Also, one very wise person told me the following things when I was 19 and undecided :

1) Pursue what you resist (you resist out of fear, and you usually fear failing at something you love)

2) Your greatest strength is your greatest weakness. And vice versa.

You will be lead to your thing. The same person told me that when the student is ready, the teacher will appear.
