Making fun of Stevie

No, this was not me. They were doing this on the Bob & Tom show this morning on the radio. This is a nationally broadcast morning show. I usually listen to this show in the morning, just until I get some news, & then I listen to Internet music until this show is over & then I switch back to the radio. This morning though, I wasn't fast enough getting the station off & I had to hear them make fun of Stevie. I can't stand it when people make fun of her. You know, you can make fun of Britney or Jessica or Ashley or one on them no talents, but not my Stevie. :(

Lee :(

I take jokes about the band and it's respective members with a grain of salt. Unless they're terribly insulting, I even laugh at them. What were they saying??

I guess it's because I don't really have a "connection" with any of them. Now, try and make jokes about Cyndi Lauper in my presence.... and you won't be in it for very long.

This reminds me of something. A few days back I had on the '83 US Festival dvd, and my dad was visiting and therefor forced to watch with me (which he doesn't really mind, cause he had the hots for Stevie back in the early 80's), but since he never really was a fan, he doesn't know much about her, or her shows. So, some time into the concert, he suddenly asks me "Is that her sister?" I ask "Who?" So he says "That person standing next to her, playing the guitar. They've got the same hairdo. I even saw her brush that hair earlier."

It took me a minute to realize he was kidding, but I laughed, and ofcourse we couldn't finish watching the dvd with a straight face. We kept making fun of them and pointing things out till the end.

So, in short, I don't really mind jokes and such. As long as they are not hurtful, cause I can quickly jump into defense mode also!

^^ I agree
My husband makes fun of them all the time..."yeah..that lindsey..SHE sure is a hottie!!" and etc.

but if It was a repeat on bob and tom, I have heard them do the "sound like stevie nicks kit" it consists of nose-plugs and a vibrater you stick up to your throat. It was kinda cute. Just like the soutpark episode-it coulda been worse.

I heard them talking about Camilla coming to the states and Sarah Jessica Parker (and other celebrities) going to visit. Somebody on the show said.."..dont' they know each other" and someone else replied with "yeah..i think they stayed at the same dog kennel once" DAMN..SNAP...COLD!!! and I LIKE SJP!!! I think that's worse than the "sing like stevie nicks kit" hahah

My friends make fun of my Fleetwood Mac obsession all the time, but I don't mind it that much. I've gotten used to it over the years. It only makes me mad if they say something really mean.

It would be a lame, sorry world indeed if there were no one making funny cracks about Stevie Nicks or Fleetwood Mac.

Signs of Trouble On A Fleetwood Mac Tour

-Harvey Fierstein filling in for Stevie more and more frequently.
-Stevie's shawl now used for warmth, not fashion.
-Rehearsal time scarce between AA meetings, tarot readings, attorney consultations & the search for the perfect bon bon.
-Stevie taking Thanksgiving Day off to appear in Macy's parade this year.
-Distinct possibility of WonderBra collapse threatens nearby homes.
-Half the audience believes that Stevie Nicks has been replaced by Sally Struthers.
-More trailer trucks carrying beauty aids than musical equipment.
-After age 40, the "cute hippy chick" look mysteriously changes into the "nutty bag lady" look.
-Stevie's twirls, coupled with her bladder problem, leave the front row wetter than at a Gallagher concert.

No. Some people simply confuse things said in jest with me actually being serious. And if I don't use an emoticon, they come after me with pitchforks and fire.

LOL. well you amuse me very much, and yes, i too have learned that you have to be quite careful about what you type, as it can often be read in an entirely different way than what you meant

I try to live by a rule...

that rule is: Never take anything personally..ever.

I've had to practice this being male in high school in the 80's loving Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie.

You can never control someone else's issues, so just control your own. Hence, you never have to take anything personally again. Now you have your own little secret and people will wonder why you're smiling all the time no matter what thay say.!!!

trust me on this it takes practice but works over time like a champion

JazmenFlowers 11-22-2005 02:51 PM

tho I have my days, I try to look the other way when reading/hearing pokes at FM or Stevie - life's too short

Here's the Sing Like Stevie Nicks Kit.... it is funny.... please don't listen (or flame me) if you are sensitive about this kind of thing....

This stuff usually never affects me. I know how I feel about Stevie and Fleetwood Mac, and what some DJ says means nothing to me.

So... they can make fun of the people that you don't like, as long as they don't make fun of the people you do like?

I like the car alarm part, but other than that I didn't find it all that funny. I, of course have no problem making fun of Stevie all the time. She is such an easy target, and there are so many things to have fun with. It is silly when people are just downright mean, but I laugh like an idiot at a good Stevie joke. It never bothers me now. I did, though, when I was 16.

I think the difference is kinda between people who like her, and perhaps know a lot of her work, making fun of her, and just some dumb a-hole who doesn't know anything making fun of her. At least that is a distinction in my mind. I love to make fun of her, but I also love her.

Well yeah, to make a good joke, you have to know your subject. Though I have heard some funny ones told by people who knew very little too.

mmkay. My point wasn't so much how good the joke was, but the intent.
But whatevs. Hasn't it always been hard for people to not make fun of SN? I tend to say, yeah, well, whattamy supposed to do? I do prefer the good joke to the cheap shot, of course....

The Harvey Fierstein one made me cackle like nobody's business. If I had been drinking a beverage, I would have had to wipe off my monitor.
