Cool pic from one of the best rock bassists out there.

Edit: I just wonder on which songs from SYW John Pierce played bass (his name's in the credits)... Can someone please help me? So I can hear the difference between a legend and a session player ;)

GypsySongbird 11-21-2005 06:39 PM

Woohoo! I think we need a Through The Decades like thread for John, too, like we have for Christine.

Especially if someone can post a bunch from when he was younger. :]

That last pic is very cute, btw.

Happy 60th Birthday to one of the best bassist in the world!:woohoo: :xoxo:

He's my favourite male component of FM: funny, self-ironic, silent, amazing as a bass player, and he can also cook, what else can a girl ask? :D

Happy Birthday Mr. McVie! Hope to hear some of your music soon.

Is that the singing fish from the Destiny rules doc next to him? Didn't John play a few keyboard parts on Say You Will?

GypsySorcerer 11-22-2005 12:45 AM

Yaye!! :) I loved some of his comments in the DR doc, such as his telling Mick he should be in the Senate. And, he was so cool to do the Q&A here on the Ledge.

amber 11-22-2005 01:15 AM

Dear John - Happy Birthday - your basslines alone have been the deciding factor in me liking many a song. Without them, innumerable songs would not have been nearly as cool as they turned out to be. Including, of course, most of the big hits. :xoxo: Oh, and thanks for the remind, trackie, me mum's b'day is the next day.

Wow... it was on Johns birthday that a bunch of us saw FM on the SYW tour at Birmingham. We showered him with stuffed penguins during the band intros!!

Okay, but just for starters - can anyone in their right mind really imagine Rhiannon being as cool as it is without that kick ass bassline? And that's just one example. I could probably think of a bunch more. I didn't like RTTG until I heard that kick ass bass.
And It's totally instrumental in SOTM. Totally!

The list goes on and on. The biggest one, honestly, is GYOW. That **** would not be half the song it is without the drumandbass awesomeness. And even such "throwaway" songs as IDWTK - and Dreams, too!

For Reals, this guy is THE MAN.

I'm just saying.

Jay McVie is the one who made bunches of our faves kick ass. :blob2:

So lets not just pay lip service - I say - this is a man who made the songs what they are as much as the writers or vocalists or producers. I think part of FM's standout is "whatever" it is that the bassline contributes.
 Sesly. With a less accomplished bass player, this band would have been so much more mediocre. And I really believe that with all my brain. I thank god every song for John, and I wish he was on Stevie's solo records, I think he is that important.
JMO.:wavey:
*yes, I've been outed as a bass geek*

I actually love him.
:laugh::nod:

shackin'up 11-22-2005 05:34 AM

Macs spine is the bassline. happy 60th, John. Your wit is to die for and your creative additions to all macsongs are priceless. The way you drive Over and Over is my latest fix. So simple yet so defining. Greatness. Just convince Lindsey to hire a studio for six weeks and pull off an album straight from the guts with a live-feel. So you will not be confronted with the same segment again and again and again and again in the studio and you'll all get the full picture of the songs in an instant.

ontheEdgeof17 11-22-2005 07:20 AM

Happy 60th, Mr. McVie! I hope you will enjoy your day out on your boat.

skcin 11-22-2005 09:55 AM

Happy birthday John. Thanks for all you've given us.

Chris#1fan 11-22-2005 11:00 AM

Have a great birthday. I hope to see you the next time Fleetwood Mac has a concert in Atlanta, Ga.

Of course. I completely agree, especially about GYOW and SOTM. Also, his bass is what makes me love "Blue Letter" so much. :blob2:

First of all, a warm birthday greeting to a guy I have admired and loved to pieces for far too many years now. Happy Birthday, John. (I still won't say the number. ;) )

Secondly, I sent him the direct link to this 'birthday' thread, so he could see all of your well wishes. He'd like to comment on it and if my daughter ever lets me use the real computer in the house (I hate this &%$@ laptop and the email program it uses), I will write him back and tell him how he can do that. :woohoo: We may also get a bit of an idea of what might be in the future for FM...

Just wanted to give ya'll the scoop. :)
