I may go to Broadway
because I could play Suzanne in a New York minute!
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,175854,00.html 'Designing' May Be Broadway Bound Thursday, November 17, 2005 By Roger Friedman 'Designing Women' on Broadway? | Felicity Huffman | CMA Awards | Rachel Hunter TV's 'Designing Women' May Be Broadway Bound It's just a rumor, but it's pretty solid all the same. I hear that Linda Bloodworth-Thomason is hard at work updating her hit TV series, "Designing Women," for Broadway. And that's not all. The original cast — Dixie Carter, Delta Burke, Annie Potts and Jean Smart — are said to have signed on to recreate their TV roles. Burke was on Broadway recently in "Steel Magnolias," and Carter has been a regular on the cabaret circuit for some time. The word is that producers Anita Waxman and Elizabeth McCann, two of Broadway's most venerable and successful "designing women," will put the show on the boards beginning next summer. So what will the play be about? For one thing, sources tell me that Bloodworth-Thomason has updated it in real time, so the women will have aged the 15 years that it's been since they were last on the air. But the play will also be topical, with room left for changes week-by-week, depending on the news of the day. If this works — and it seems like a lock to do just that — my guess is we will soon see plays based on shows like "The Golden Girls," "Soap," "All in the Family" and other television classics. The audience is certainly built in, and people know what they're getting up front. It's all good fun, but it does kind of make you wonder how fast Arthur Miller and Eugene O'Neill are spinning in their graves. |
Get out!! I'm so going to see that. We shall go together. :woohoo:
Have you seen Lupone yet? |
I'd pay to see that.

I am so there! :]

Audience members who looked like hard core New Yorkers wept at her curtain call and many screamed that she was back where she belonged. I, too, wept as I did when La Nicks shot to where she belongs in B&B in Vegas. The production is very sparse and odd, but it works and, to its credit, all of the hard core singers, musicians, and actors (many of which despise her) I partied with the night before heralded her performace as stunning. |

I know how desperate you were to see it, so I'm glad it lived up to your expectations. :D If it becomes a hit, hopefully they'll film it. I'd like to see how it compares to the Lansbury show and the one Lupone did a few years back. |
Strandie, when I first saw the title of this thread and that you started it...I assumed you were finally taking that Merman Tribute somewhere.
I rarely go to NY, but I would make a special trip to see this. If they do it, it is going to be Homo Central. |
Jason: how is your mother doing? (I didnt want to start a new thread for the question)

Seriously, there is no more infection and she has made her official return to the ladies who lunch place  Let me tell ya - ladies, get your smears, mammograms, and other female tests as often as suggested - early detection is the best thing you can do. As for the sig - so many levels of that right now  On edit - I will elaborate - Six years ago, they found a tumor in my mother's breat that was in the duct and the size of like 1/8 of a kernal of baby corn. It was so small, they could barely biopsy it. Yet, when they did, they realized it was a horrid form of fast growing cancer. So, prevention though testing is so important. Yes, she lost her breast, but they took no lymphnodes with it and she had no chemo. Neglect, would have incurred that and she likely would be dead. Trust me when I say that though I cannot comprehend losing my nads, I would give one of them up not to have to ebdure a greatly weakened immune system and chemo. So - please get your mammorgrams as regularly as possible. Similarly, her benign ovarian tumor was detected within a month of detectibility and even then, it was the size of a small grapefruit. So, please get tested as often as reasonable!!!! Of course, my doctor told me there was no reason to back up during my prostate exam  |
