CD Burning help!
Got my computer about 2 years ago. I've been burning CDs with Roxio Easy CD Creator (came with the computer) frequently at 48x speed with no issues.
A few months ago, Roxio stopped working. I would click on it & nothing would happen - no error message, just nothing. Hubby tried to delete & reinstall it - now if I click it I get the hourglass & it looks like it's going to open but never does. So. I started burning using Musicmatch Jukebox (also came with the computer) - slower, but not terrible. I think it was burning at 24x or 48x, but it was annoying to have to put the tracks into "my playlist" first and then burn them. With Roxio, I just hit "copy" and it did. Suddenly, Musicmatch is burning at 4x speed! WTH? I tried to increase the speed & it told me to upgrade. At 4x speed, it will take me an hour to do 1 CD. No way. BTW - I can burn photos onto CD without any problems at all, so I don't think it's the burner itself. My question is - should I just buy the upgrade & give it a shot? If it doesn't work, I'm screwed out of the money, right? Roxio wants $79 ON SALE - that's a lot, IMO. Musicmatch wants $19.99, but again, it's a pain in the ass & not that fast to begin with. Anyone here care to recommend another program? I just want to be able to copy my boot CDs to start trading again. |

I always burn everything at 4x speed, though. And DVD's at 2x speed. I must be silly. |

I guess it is safer to burn pure data (including DVDs) at higher speeds though, that's what those md5-files in torrents are for; to check out if the files are still the same after burning. |

What I meant was that I have friends who don't have iPods or use iTunes for anything except the radio and cd burning functions and they love it. It's not like it's their musical vault, like it is for me. |

Well I have Microsoft Media Player, which for some reason doesn't record
CD-R but does do CD-RW. So I switched to Sonic Burn, it pops up when I put in a blank CD, fairly easy I just move the songs from my playlist into the copy box and hit burn. I think it can also do a straight burn form CD to another CD, but I usually like to mix'n match, so haven't tried the straight burn yet... |
Wow - I've always burned at either 24x or 48x & have never had a problem - unless the people I've traded with never told me, that is. I have a few discs that won't burn at all unless I burn at 24x or slower, but for the most part I'm all about the speed, baby. Esp. for a large trade.
BTW - Roxio is now working without any problems. After like 5 months of not working at all. |
Roxio was giving me a hard time for a while (error mesages) and then I got a lens cleaning kit and it cleared everything up. It doesn't sound exactly like your problem, but I suppose you can never underestimate the power of a good cleaning!
