Songs that you would change the title

"Ooh My Love" has got to be one of Stevie's worst titles for a song. I think that "Castle Walls" would be a great title for the same song, and is appropriately Stevie sounding.

A small change: "Crystalline" sounds prettier to me than "Crystal"

I have always liked the subtitle "Go Ahead Lily" better than "Rock a Little". When I first bought the album Rock a Little, I was thinking the title song would be some loud yelling song. It wasn't at all. And having been inspired by Lillian Hellman, I think it is a more powerful by itself.

The thought of "Everybody Finds Out" having been called "Monica" tickles my funnybone.

"Alice" should have been called "The Other Side of the Mirror". I always like for there to be a song on each album that matches the album title.

And then there is the issue of:
"Designs of Love" versus "That's Alright"
"You Could Forget" versus "Garbo"
"Nomad" versus "Candlebright"
"No Light" versus "Planets of the Universe"
"The Tower" versus "Goodbye Baby"

What is this about "Monica" & Everybody Finds Out? This is preposterous, this is mad, this is unspeakable.

I thought this was a running gag here on the ledge.

Thunder only happens when it's raining instead of dreams so PEOPLE WILL GET IT RIGHT!!!

some of these alternate titles are like swords through my heart...you can't change Ooh My Love, Rock A Little, Alice or Garbo - the others I'll let you have

Really? I like the title quite a bit.

Alice should have been called "This Is Going Straight to the Trash Heap" and should have followed it's own sage advice. :)

Good idea. I like that better also. If only it didn't seem like she were copying Elton John that way.

How about "In the Still of the Night" instead of How Still My Love. I mean, that's what Stevie calls it anyway.

melly 11-09-2005 11:29 AM

hmmm

I think I would change Kind of Woman and Kick It.. and uh, Love Is Like A River (is it??? really???)

but I'm not sure what to change them to...

Would be confused with the Five Satins' classic '50's doo-wop song.

Couldn't agree more. I dislike "Ooh My Love," though I'm not wild about Castle Walls, either. :o I guess it is the only real alternative title there could be, though.

Rock a Little is one of my favourite titles ever - for the album and the song. I actually think it's perfect - doesn't connote a screaming rock song at ALL to me. She's rocking a little...

How about just dropping the silly "ooh" and renaming it "My Love"? That's what I call it because I can't bring myself to say the name "Ooh My Love."

I think "Deadliest Poison" might have been good for that one.

Forget that. Stevie should have went straight to the heart of it all:
Rappaccini’s Daughter

Most people woul have just been WTF? Unless they were super literate on Nathaniel Hawthorne. But really......I prefer 'Running Through The Garden.' It just sounds so wonderful. Yeah.... in brilliant colors!

Then it would be too obvious that the story is much better than the song!:lol:

I do love the song to death, though.

Stevie did say, in Performing Songwriter, that she considered calling RTTG "Rappaccinis's Daughter" but they felt she would have to deal with copywrite issues and whatnot, so they went with RTTG instead.
