Curtis, I'm so sorry to hear that.:( If it's any consolation, my cd burner on my computer is busted right now, so I cant make anything new.

GypsySorcerer 10-22-2005 04:42 PM

Aw, that sucks. Especially that it happened twice. I'm sorry, Curtis. :(

amber 10-22-2005 04:43 PM

Oh man. My condolences. I HATE that. I wanted to get violent when it happened to me in April. I hope you get everything back.

You might want to get a zip drive.

Mari 10-22-2005 05:07 PM

Oh man. That really sucks. Like Amber said, if there's anything we can do to help..

WelshWitchPMD 10-22-2005 05:37 PM

Oh Curtis that is the worst. What is causing this? Is it your OS? You must started backing up stuff. I had that happen to me on my old PC but I was lucky that they backed up my whole system and then reloaded Windows ME (Don't ever get that!) Of course it cost me my whole tax return that year but it was worth it. I learn a valuable lesson BACK UP!
If you need some music files or a certain show let me know. I have to snail mail you on a CD however since I don't have DSL.

You sure? I have a buttload of videos and songs just on my computer that I would be hella pissed if I lost. Hmmm, I should burn some CD's...
anyway, it's nice to see you, I was wondering where you'd been. :wavey:

Do you have a CD burner?
Is it a Lab Top?
How did it crash?
Was it a virus??

HomerMcvie 10-22-2005 06:32 PM

I've had three!!! Trojans in the last year, and went thru a reformat a few weeks ago. I now check ALL emails on my server's site, delete 90% of them, THEN download the one's I recognize.

Johnny Stew 10-22-2005 06:49 PM

I'm really sorry to hear you lost everything on your PC again, Curtis... what a kick in the teeth. :distress:

I absolutely recommend to everyone that they install a firewall on their PC. After having a nasty bout with a trojan virus and other gremlins about a year and a half ago (was so bad, I thought my PC was headed to the scrapyard), I swear by using a firewall.

I suggest ZoneAlarm... they have a free version, and I've found it to be very easy to use.

How do you get a Trojan? From emails? How do you know if you have one?

David 10-22-2005 07:10 PM

I'm sorry, Curtis. I know how it feels to lose ****loads of data.

If there are specific files you need, maybe I or others can help. Just post here.

Haven't you learned by now that those porn sites are full of viruses?

Ha, but seriously...sorry to hear that Curtie. What a bitch. I hope you'll be able to get most or all of your files back.

Richard B 10-22-2005 07:49 PM

Aww, man...that sucks. Hope your data recovery goes well. Nice to see Ledgies ready to help you with getting you stocked back up with files.

Let this be a lesson to those of you who do not back up regularly. Not backing up your data is a really bad habit to get into.

CreepingDeath 10-22-2005 08:11 PM

I'm sorry that happend to you, Curtis. My computer crashed last year and I lost everything. I was stupid enough not to have anything on a back up CD, too.

I'm glad you're back. :xoxo:

JazmenFlowers 10-22-2005 08:16 PM

I totally feel your pain. This has happened to me 3 times in the last year. Luckily, I learned to backup on an external hard drive. I'm waiting right now for my laptop to be fixed...it's a month old too, by the way.

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help you!

Dreammms 10-22-2005 08:16 PM

Sorry about that sweetie. IF you need anything please let me know. :xoxo:

Yep. They all came in an email that said, "eBay Fraud" in the title. I didn't even have to open it. It attached itself to my mailbox, thus making, in the words of my virus program, "your mailbox IS a Trojan virus. No action may be taken". This past time, I was still able to use my cd burner, SO I GOT ALL MY FM STUFF BURNED OFF BEFORE THE REFORMAT!!!!! Five years worth!!!:] :] :] :] So, although I had to reformat, I didn't lose anything, except my email folder. So screw off, you stupid hackers!!!
If anyone else is getting these, I strongly suggest doing as I do now- checking my servers page first, deleting the garbage, THEN download your emails.

What if you have AOL? Does it work the same way?

I'm not sure about AOL. I was just crying to my server's tech support (I've got DSL), and he suggested reading them on their site first. I'd call or email AOL tech support, if I were you.

AOL Tech Support one word: USELESS!

I don't have DSL anyway. Just dial-up. Thanks for all of your info.:)

Wish I'd been more help. I'm certainly no computer geek. I wish I were. I like to think of myself as more of a computer dork!
